  1. Well said sir! It's a total cop out to criticise the Board for appointing Houiller and then decline to name someone who they could and should have appointed instead. Houiller wasn't my dream appointment but I accept that in the circumstances in which we found ourselves he was probably the best appointment we could make.
  2. Top post Jack. I agree with every word. We're in serious danger of becoming a laughing stock, if we're not there already .... I actually really feel for Big Mac in this situation. What an awful position he has been placed in. Top Post - bang on... Much ado about nothing if you ask me. Yes it would be preferable for him to be in charge for the Stoke match but given a choice of waiting 2 weeks for the best available choice in the circumstances or having Curbs take over straightaway then it's a no brainer for me. I've never known so much attention being placed on who is the number 2. What exactly did Robertson or Walford do? How many assistants has Fergie had in his time? Did it make a blind bit of difference when Kidd, McLaren, Queiroz left - not at all. It is the manager who calls the shots . GH needs to appoint someone in due course who he is conmfortable working with but in the meantime Kmac can assist. As for who the assistant is then if he as a Villa connection then fine and well but it shouldn't be an essential requirement. I'd rather we appoint the best person irrespective of is background. Can't believe the talk of Brain Little and John Gregory! May as well ask Ron Saunders if he fancies the job! If GH has to work out the 3 months notice period then we become a laughing stock but that ain't going to happen.
  3. This! Not too sure why that quote was even brought up to show GH in a bad light. It's completely true. So you will be happy with 12th? Isn't he simply saying that we are not in the upper echelons of the PL. No where does he say his objective is to finish 7th-12th. I imagine his objective would ultimately be top 4. Whether we can get there is a different issue. Other than putting us in the 6-8 bracket I can't see what the fuss is.
  4. He would be the best option for the temporary role in my opinion. He's a good manager who's only major flaw in my eyes are his transfer record. So a season as manager with no activity in January would be the best option. Then Jol, Moyes or Hughes to take over in May. But I'm sure Houllier will get the full 2 years and be given money to spend next summer. A manager in a temporary role wouldn't work. Why would players respect someone who they knew wouldn't be around for very long? We can't afford just to write off the season. Let's say for instance we were to finish bottom half what's to say that a Moyes or Jol would want to come. We have to appoint the best manager we can do at the present time and I think that's what we've done in extremely difficult circumstances.
  5. General Seeings as there is barely any consensus amongst the fans as to who should be appointed it is unsurprising that it's been a difficult process finding a new manager. It's very easy from the comfort of an armchair to demand that the club appoint a Jol or a Moyes but most of us realise that the process is somewhat more complex than that. It was ever thus that the people with the loudest voices make the most noise. We may not post as often as the ranters but please be assured that there are large numbers of us who are still very supportive of what the club is doing. UTV Rog
  6. The club are between a rock and a hard place whoever they appoint. None of the available candidates are likely to have thousands flocking down to VP to welcome them. Who wouldn't prefer a Jol or Moyes but the timing of MON'S resignation really ballsed up the options available to us. If it is GH/Kmac or wherever (but preferably not Curbs) then they deserve to be given a chance and judged on results. Some of the whining on the past few pages is laughable.
  7. Quite. It's his recent record that tells against him. Quite how he managed to produce such poor results with Mexico & Cote Ivoire, I will never understand. Both Sven and the players knew that he had been shafted by the owners by the time of the Boro game. There are managers who are highly regarded by some on here who have been known to suffer the odd thrashing. International football and club football are very different beasts, especially if you're parachuted in at the last minute. Look at Capello - God at club level, somewhat less at international level. If you had asked me at the start of the summer would I want Sven to replace MON I would have said good God no! In view of the fact that MON left at the worst possible time (not attaching any blame to anyone!) Sven is the best of what we can get at this time. If he is appointed hopefully we get the Sven of the first half of his Citeh campaign than the second!
  8. Has been interviewed according to Dave Woodhall on H&V. Should be good for a few pages on here condemning Randy for a lack of ambition if true.
  9. I very much doubt that he chose to leave with the intention of causing the maximum hurt possible to the club. Having said that the timing of his departure couldn't have been worse had he tried. As for who gets the job - I would prefer someone more experienced than Kmac but if he does get the job I hope he is given a chance. Based on some of the things I've read the boo boys are already geared up to get on his case. Even if we get a Jol or Moyes there's no guarantee that they will be successful but they would be given time and so it shouldn't be any different for kmac.
  10. You could always do something else on Sat/Sun/Mon- whenever we're playing. Hear B&q's quite good fun these dats.
  11. Is your opinion even if you state it as a fact. I agree that Citeh have probably improved but they're on a whole different level of spending so it's pointless comparing us to them. Spurs were alresady better than us but I'm not sure they have got much stronger. In my opinion Everton and L'pool are no stronger than us - I would put us about the same level. Milner is an undoubted loss but hopefully we will be utilise the squad so the sum of the whole will be greater than last season. If we are to push on from 6-8 agree we will have to spend in Jan but believe we would have spent something in this window had MON not left us as just about the worse possible time. Can't see anyone else breaking in the top 8.
  12. Appointing the new manager was always the biggest decision Randy has to make. Find it laughable that the same people who are decrying Randy and Kmac for their lack of nous are also demanding that they should have made signings before the window closed. Once MON flounced off we were in 'batten down the hatches mode'. New manager first and then look to strengthen in Jan. In the meantime we have more than enough to compete till then.
  13. After 3 games of the season? Get a grip man! If you're talking about winning the league then the season is a write off but it was before the season started. Top 4 finish is unlikely but it's not completely impossible. There isn't anyone who doesn't wish we had a couple of new signings but once MON pissed off 5 days before the start of the season we were always very much on the back foot. I'm just relieved we haven't lost any of the significant players apart from Milner. The likes of Liverpool and Everton are not much stronger than they were last season. Even Spurs with CL football have only manager a Brazilian rookie and a back up keeper. I don't accept that we have fallen behind and that the season is a right off. Most important thing is to get the right manager in. If we keep in touch until Jan and hopefully get a couple of players in then we could be as competitive as last season.
  14. So because they don't deny what is in all probability a baseless rumour this confirms it as a fact. Sounds like a self fulfilling prophecy. I'd be happy for Moyes to rock up at VP but it isn't going to happen.
  15. Reminds me a lot of what used to be said on here about MON. Wonder if Bluescouse would be as apparently indifferent to Moyes if he was to leave as we were when MON upped and went.
  16. whats our average attendance btw? Last season 38,573. This season 36604 for W Ham & 34725 for this one. Last season attendance at the Everton home fixture = 38729. Bearing in mind the last 2 results, the general air of negativity that was surrounding the club and the fact it's a bank holiday weekend the crowd was not really a shock. Great battling performance on a day when the result was everything and a vital win against one of our main rivals. Now to appoint a manager and see if we can keep in touch with our rivals until the Jan winter when hopefully we will able to strengthen a bit.
  17. When people are seriously debating the merits of Curbishley or Warnock for the job it's little wonder Randy is taking his time.
  18. We all agree that we need a new manager sharpish BUT there is no agreement whatsoever about who we should appoint from the very limited pool of available candidates (cheers for that MON) and yet this place is going mad because Randy hasn't appointed anyone yet. I hope Randy and whoever is appointed have thick skins to deal with the all the bull shit that is to follow in the weeks to come.
  19. Heskey is a rocket polisher!!! Yes right. May be some people might just lay off a bit and stop being such drama queens.
  20. We're going to be seeing a lot of that this season. That reminds me of DOL at Doncaster! We had a jack in the box on the touchline last season and fat lot of difference that made. Plenty of time to go. Deep breaths and chill out peeps.
  21. You wouldn't be the only fan who don't go to VP so it wouldn't be that much of a biggie. I think it would be most certainly, as the appointment of Bradley as manager will turn a lot of people away from going to home games. If it was to be Bradley (and he wouldn't be my choice) wouldn't it be a good idea to see how he gets on before boycotting the team?
  22. Got to respect the French and to a lesser extent the Italians for going out of their way to make sure that we don't look so bad.
  23. On the verge thanks to a lying and corrupt Government who blamed everything on the previous Conservative government. If the Tories were that bad how did they win 4 terms on the trot. Seeings as the party that opposed the minimum wage is back in power no doubt we'll soon be able to undercut the far east countries we have been supposedly overtaken by!
