  1. Thought he did very well, lacked a bit of composure which could have been very costly at times but made some vital interceptions as well, as others have said will definitely grow into the role and be a very fine centre half.

Andre Villas-Boas is available and with our new owners and some backing he might fancy the challenge. Chelsea didn't break the managerial record for him for no reason but his profile has dropped off a lot since then.

I just want someone young who can build for the future rather than these awful British managers that just go jumping around the bottom half of the prem/champ teams getting them nowhere.

    Even his name is perfect.

Boa means good in Portuguese, Villa means Villa in English so "Villas Good"

    Sign him up

You sound like you're grooming him to play at left back Steve? Interesting! :detect:

I think we're actually OK for left backs, could do with beefing up the cover at right back though.

  4. He was directly involved with 3 of Sheffield Uniteds goals, two clumsy free kicks given away around the box and carelessly lost the ball by not looking up which which led to the 4th goal.

Early days but a lot of work to be done on the defensive side of his game if he's going to be playing at left midfield.

I think Bruce sees Bree as a centre half rather than RB which a number of people have also commented on previously.

He's listed as being 5'10, not sure what his jumping is like but I'd hope it's excepcional if he's playing centre half.

It's really frustrating that in Bruce's tenure SHA have had two better managers in Rowett and now Monk (the former in particular). I doubt many at the Sty would swap right now.

    Better based on what exactly?

It's too familiar to last year whereas other clubs excel. Even Boro who play a similar style of football manage to grind out the wins but we lack the composure to do so. How can we all see Jedinak is not a CB but Steve Bruce doesn't? Frustrating and it will cost Bruce his job.

Boro didn't grind out a result against us in either of the two playoff games last season, barely had a shot of note as I recall.

I just hope we can recover and not be too disheartened by, what really should of been three points.

My thoughts exactly, still think we can kick on here and have a very successful season.

I think this moving to playing on the front foot will be a bit of a transitional period though , while being nicer to watch it does leave you more exposed to counters and you also need to be able to breakdown smaller teams parking the bus. Even though I appreciate Bruce as a good manager for this level and am happy with him, I'm not sure this style is in his comfort zone, will become more clear in the coming months.

He’s only getting a very poor from me starting a season with that back four. I’ll accept if when he plays defenders in defence.

As much as its completely obvious that Jedinak isn't a centre back, Id still have him over elphick who is basically Jedinak without being as strong in the air.

It does seem I’m in the minority here. I found that game incredibly frustrating. A lot of it comes down to Brentford supposedly being this great team managed by this great manager but actually they look pretty dire. We should be tearing them apart at home. A last minute 2-2 is not good enough for promotion. We have somehow managed to make ‘goalkeeper’ one of the weakest positions on the pitch when it’s one of the easiest to fill for a club of our stature (i.e. any decent championship goalkeeper would move to us and would do). We had all that possession and played attacking football - great - but how many clear cut chances did we actually create against a pretty average team???

I’ve not said it before, but we are never going up under this man.

Frustrating we didn't win of course, given our play was so good but we utterly dominated that game for 70 minutes and it's very hard to break down any team that is sat back defending for their lives.

Brentford were parked defensively and were resolute, a moment of magic or a defensive lapse is pretty much all that could have broken them down with how they were playing due to the pressure being put on them.

If we can continue that level of performance I'd be highly confident we'll go up.

I was supporting Bruce until today but I’m over it now

That is one of the most insane things I've read on here and that's says a lot.

Best 70 minutes of the entire Bruce era by a million miles and regardless of the result, I will take that as VERY encouraging.

I think we ran out of gas at 70 mins as we simply aren't used to playing a hi-line, hi-tempo game but that's the way we need to play from now on.

My only concern was the defence. Jedi is NOT NOT NOT a reliable CH and Tuanzebe is a poor right back ..... he'd do better in midfield. we may have to win games 4-3 throughout this season !!!

Agree with everything although I thought tuanzebe was reasonably good

  14. Villa were dominant tonight with some truly excellent football against one of the best teams in the league, tired in the last 20 minutes but showed great character (again) to get something from the game which we deserved.

Get a good centre back in for Jedinak and and we'll be serious challengers.
