Finished as high as 7th with Boro (unthinkable now), won them their first ever trophy and got them into the UEFA Cup Final....it may not impress you, but it impresses me. If he has a foreign name, everyone would be drooling at the prospect of seeing him at Villa.

Would you be happy with Mcleish?

Plus, your point doesn't really work because McClaren never got anyone relegated.

Only because Wolfsburg had the sense to get rid of him before he managed it :winkold: Fortunately, SHA arn't that bright!

I would be happy with McLeish, I think he's a good manager. Don't particularly like his style of football...but thats another matter. You forget with B'ham that he hardly spent any money last season (mainly loans) and their best defender (Dann) was injured for half the season.

I can only say that I am glad that you are not choosing our manager. Oh and he actually spent a fair bit last summer, both Zigic and Foster were 6m each I think.

  4. I'll be very depressed if we get McClaren. Even at Boro (where he was supposedly great) he had loads of money given to him and his win percentage was 38%.

No **** thank you. I really don't like the smarmy clearing in the woods and I don't want him as our manager.

But he was at Boro, what do you expect? A 50% win rate? He is a good manager, he has a league title to his name aswell as a league cup, both with small clubs too. He may not be my number 1 choice, but he is a very good manager and should be backed by supporters if he's appointed.

But that is the problem, he wouldn't be. Due to his England days he is viewed as such a joke manager in this country that if we were to appoint him he immediately makes us a joke club.

He would be disastrous on so many levels.

Oh, I know he won't be backed if he's appointed, but he should be! England was poor, but Capello (a champions league winning manager) is hardly doing much better is he?

People need to look past 'the brolly' and look at the manager, a very good one. No one has to like him, just back him...you never know he might just win us a trophy!!

I would argue he has only had one good season as a manager and that was at Twente. And he didn't have to create a team like he would for us. When he had the opportunity to create a team with Boro he didn't really impress despite large sums of money being spent.

  6. Anybody who puts the likes of Jol and Hughes above Benitez need to educate themselves. Here, let me assist:

    Spain U-19 League (1): 1993

    Spain U-19 Cup (2): 1991, 1993

    Extremadura

    Segunda División

    Promotion (1): 1997–98

    Tenerife

    Segunda División (1): 2000–01

    Valencia

    La Liga (2): 2001–02, 2003–04

    UEFA Cup (1): 2003–04

    Liverpool

    UEFA Champions League (1): 2004–05

    FA Cup (1): 2005–06

    FA Community Shield (1): 2006

    UEFA Super Cup (1): 2005

A winner if ever there was one. I hope this helps with your education.

Whats he been up to for the last 6 years? Did he go on holiday?

  7. Personally I think Rafa is an absolute word removed but I can understand why he might be appointed, even if I think he now somewhat of a busted flush.

McClaren on the otherhand I can just see no reason why he would be a choice. He spent alot of money at Boro to achieve 14th, 12th, 7th, 14th place finishes, which is frankly just rubbish. He has no team building credentials, no charisma, no great record in the transfer market, no nothing!

  8. McClaren would be financial suicide to the club in terms of season tickets sales etc. Plus he would have to hit the ground at an absolute sprint for the fans not to be on his back early doors. I suspect and hope the Board know this.

He actually is on 'ok' manager, pretty much a Curbishley for the modern generation, but I certainly do not want him as manager of Villa.

  9. just read martin jol's career stats and he looks impressive. has good win percentages, has the international experience, pl expierence , bought some quality players while he was there berbatov, lennon, bent, bale. so why are we no that interested on him on viila talk????

Still my first choice as he is a few others. I think he would fit us perfectly.

  10. We are not going to go from MON to Houllier to Hughes..

Deschamps remains a very good bet at (i think) 40/1.. I got 80/1 but thet was before the Houllier departure became official..

You have to take in consideration that Duverne is still an employee at the club..And an Excellent employee at that...Did anyone on this site have any complaints with the Villa fitness towards the end of this season? I think we can ALL say even Petrov looked a new player fitness wise.. This employee will not be shown the door as lightly as some seem to think.. Deschamps has worked with Duverne in the past, they are well aquainted in the football world. It would be a smoothe appointment and in line with "some" of the work Houllier has started.

Tell you who else Duverne has worked with:

    raymond-domenech.jpg

    I believe he's available :D

I've always thought he looks frighteningly like a grey haired MON..

  11. I know Moyes is probably the best choice on paper, but I find Hughes and McClaren to be more exciting for some reason...

Also, am I right in saying that McClaren is the only British candidate to have won a trophy in England? (2004 League Cup)

Mcleish will probably be out of work on Monday.. he seems to fit your criteria. Fancy him as manager?

  12. How about Chris Wilder of Oxford United? He's done a fantastic job getting them back into the football league and keeping them there with no real significant funds.

He has done an excellent job, but he still needs to learn alot which he will do by coming up through the divisions. i don't think he is ready for the jump from league 2 to Prem.
