On the plus side it’ll be good to see Danny Murphy so conflicted between his hatred of us and his love of Stevie. 😆

The only immediate positive effect with this that I know is that Murphy said that Gerrard wouldn't go to us as we're not a big enough club. According to Danny M. Our ceiling is apparently too low. Would be nice to hear him explain this. :)

  2. Being ever the optimist I have to say I'm quite concerned about Gerrard. I can't see the reason to sack DS just to appoint a very inexperienced Steven Gerrard. I wanted DS to go on, but when he was sacked I'd expected someone more experienced. Truth to be told, there wasn't any really mouth watering realistic manager to go for, except for maybe Ten Hag or Fonseca. Ten Hag would be my choice, but maybe that's not realistic.

But being me also has it's pros as I always hope for the best, and when it comes to Gerrard, IF he's the one, then I hope that he will turn out really great for us. Be the new Pep, kind of. I always have doubts when it comes to former great players turning to managing clubs. There are too many failing, especially english players. But maybe this time we get it right. I think Purslow is putting his job on the line here with this appointment, but if it's a success... Well, then his job is secured. Let's hope he knows what he's doing.

I don't buy this "He's worked under a few good managers and should've learned from them" or "He was a winner as a player which would spill over to the players" or "He was a great midfielder so he should be able to learn our midfielders this or that". It seldom works that way. It's not only knowing how, it's to teach how. To motivate. To pick the right team. Does he have those abilities? I don't know, but we'll see in the future. Let's hope so, as most reports points to him being our new m,anager.

But it will defintely feel weird to sing his name in praise. Really weird. And wrong. But it worked with Terry.

  3. Waiting for Alan Wake to get downloaded I kept on playing after it was all done and think I discovered a rather cool thing. I went back to the old Overlook camp and whilst there I think I could hear what sounded like echoes from when the camp was active. A very small thing, but it's one of those things I really like. If I actually heard it, that is. :) Anyone else heard this?

  4. As said in another thread I finished RDR2 yesterday and now I'm thinking about what to play next. Games on the list are:

    Horizon

    Gods of War

    Finish Last of us

    Finish Heavy rain

    GTA V

    Skyrim

Have anyone played Vampires? It seems to be a game well suited to me but I've heard it's not good. On the other hand I'm probably one of the few who likes Friday the 13th the game playing as Jason killing young people over and over. :) I'm also considering buying the new FIFA, but I might pass on that this year and go back to buying it every 2nd year.

  5. I think he really needs a goal. His work rate has been great as usual, but his finishing is definetley lacking confidence. I think he feels the pressure. And Ings hasn't scored since Watkins came back, so maybe that's adding to the pressure.

He signed in summer 2019 so has been here just over 2 years.   Was it a 5 year contract initially?

A 4 year contract would mean his contract would end summer 2023.

No, you're right. 23, of course. My math took some serious beating there. :D AFAIK it was a 4 year contract.

Should have been done last season. When's his contract up?

Summer 24, I think. There's been talking about giving him a new contract several times, but nothing's happened so far. I really hope we tie him up with an improved 5 year contract. IMO he's been good since project restart, but this season he so far has sorted out the errors like being a bit too eager to get the ball which has given the opponents too many unnecessary freekicks and penalties. He can become really, really good in the future. He's improved every season.

I thought he was only about 10! But it was a superbly assured performance, slotted in totally without fuss and didn’t put a foot wrong as far as I could see. Maybe linked a bit better with the midfield than Gilbert had been?

Totally agreed. I thought he was really good. And a really good touch too. I think we have a hidden gem here. In 10 years when he's got pubes.

  9. Job done, and done well. Love AEG's penalties. He's so cool when he steps up.

We're almost a bit like arsenal used to be, playing their kids in the league cup and winning it.The future really looks bright. Clubs have in general a hope for one player a generation to step up and become a regular starter in the first team, but that doesn't happen very often. manure's "class of '92" is an exceptional exception. Maybe we can have another exception here. Maybe. But to put on a 12 year old as a rb is almost taking the piss. :D

    Next.

He says Ashley Youngs numbers in training are very good, if Ollie doesn't start tomorrow I think we might surprise them and play him in an advance role with Emi2.

I think we might see him either way. I don't think Bailey will start.

Who would you rather see leave?

Who would be more difficult to replace?

And what better way to acknowledge him and reward him is to give him the captaincy? No brainer for me.

I don't want any of them to leave. I didn't want Grealish to leave either, but I don't think he was the best captain we could've had. Martinez is probably the best player we have in the squad right now, but I still think Mings is the best captain material we have.

    Emi Martinez.

Guy is a winner. Leader. Has just won Copa America.

    Nuff said.

And also our defence was a big mess. Then Emi Martinez arrived. Settled and calmed everyone down.

Actually, it wasn't that big mess before he arrived. He's improved it, no doubt, by both his saves and his presence, but after the restart from the Covid break in 2020 our defence was a lot better. It was actually pretty solid and the biggest reason we could stay in the league.

  13. I didn't like this signing as I'm a grumpy old bastard who finds it hard to forgive and forget, and that dive and the celebration after they'd scored that penalty...

However, I think this can be the most important signing we've made this summer. I don't think he'll start many games, but he will be the sub that comes on and do a good job if any of Cash, Targett, Buendia or Bailey comes off injured or have a bad game. He will make us so much less vulnerable to an injury on a few key positions.

Plus he's got experience and a winning mentality. I think he's a good voice in the dressing room.

    Sorry, wrong Swede. Will amend.

    I feel kindo f insulted here. Mixing me up with @Tegis, a 08? :P

Anyway, yes, they used tape when they recorded BoRhap. Among Queen fans it's kind of widely known that the tapes were all but worn out during the operatic sections.

    Tegis... Bah

  15. What a farce. I mean, I've read plenty of "When Mings get the ball there's a new phase." I've read the rules on the FA page tonight and I can't find one single mention of a "new phase", not one.

Then there's the receiving thing. Well, I remember so well when Mark Delaney received the ball from the opponent's attackers

He received the ball quite well.

Anyway, there were 3 incidents tonight that told me that Moss had a mission tonight. The goal, it's obviously offside, all the "explanations" are just stupid. It's offside, pure and simple. And then there's the sending off of DS. I mean, come on. And then there was a minor thing in the first half that was just so weird. When we had a freekick in our own half. Mings is preparing to take it but then let's it off to Martinez, something that happens quite often in football. To lift up the team. Nothing special at all. It takes a few more seconds but still, it's in the first half and not controversary at all. Untill Pep starts to shout for some reason and then Moss feels the need to run and Tell Mings to not doing that, or something of the effect. Doing what? Letting the keeper take a freekick in our own half? It happens so often and I've never seen a reaction like that. And when Pep started to shout a real ref would've told him to pipe down and let the game go. There wasn't much time wasting in this game, at least not as much as there use to be in a game like this, and I was just confused. In itself a nothing situation, but with all the rest, well, I probably make it bigger than it was, but Moss did go Pep's way in that sitaution. Too.

I hope, I really hope, that we against newcastle, when we attack put Ollie just a few metres above the goal line, to the left or right so he won't shadow the keeper's sight, and then take shots so Olli can go for the rebounds from the keeper. I mean, as soon as the keeper touches the ball he must play Ollie onside, right? You know it's the right way to go, Dean, call them out. And if we're successfull but are called off for offside, tell Ollie to lurk behind the defence waiting for a ball from, say, DL to their last defender and then you receive it from behind. Just do it. Air Jordan.

And for the game, they were by far the best team we've played so far this season but we stood up well. Rode our luck and I can take a loss, but not like this.

Targett motm for me. I didn't use to think much about him, but he's been better and better for every game this season. Well played, Matthew.

It was both. We equalized through Conor and play was brought back for a minor infringement (there wasn't one) on the goalkeeper about 3 phases of play before. Cut to utter confusion and bemusement to everyone around me.

Then we scored a while later and muted celebrations of can we celebrate this one?

Then we scored in the last minute through Matt Targett and you think quick glance at the lino and let's go mental!!!!! But no, let's hope this one stands. A minute later everyone at the centre circle waiting to kick off.

Have we scored? Have we actually scored??? Don't know mate.

IT IS GARBAGE. Stop trying to make it work. Get rid of it.

Was the one against brighton the one where Wes' heel was half a centimetre offside in the build up? And later it showed that not only was it a ridiculous offside call, it was also two situations earlier and shouldn't count, I think.
