Bannan has been on the pitch for 17 out of 18 points we have achieved so far this season (including the sub appearance prior to the equaliser for the draw against West Brom). This makes him our most important midfielder, even though Ireland is supposed to be our senior midfielder. sure, he was outclassed by Juan Mata at the weakend but against most other teams we need the composure and control he gives to the midfield.

Lichaj is currently the only member of the Aston Villa team to have a positive goal difference rating when he is on the pitch. In the Premier League, he is +1, the team having scored 11 and conceded 10 in his presence. The stats of his rivals for his position: Bennett -13 (2, -15). Stevens -6 (2, -8). He also played in the recent 1-4 thrashing of Norwich. Not quite sure what I'm supposed to dislike about him.
