erm idk GIF by Good Girls

erm, I used Salifou as an example because we rarely got to see him due to competition we had in the squad at the time.. And we have similar amounts of competition now, so someone will not be getting many games.

If you think I used Salifou as an example because he's a black guy from Africa, then that's your problem, not mine thank you.

Why didn't I used Berson as the example?  Because Berson was signed 15/17 years ago, not 10, so it was easier to recall in that moment.

So whilst I am at work, being naughty by coming onto VT and quickly reading/posting - I WILL make lazy (or just quick in this case) comparisons.  I'm happy that you have the time to consider all the intricacies and potential slip ups when posting.

So, to be absolutely clear - I didn't consider prices, I didn't consider heritage, I didn't consider skin colour.  What I did consider was how many players we have in that position, and how I perceived they would be prioritized to play by Dean Smith, i.e. Luiz has now started playing, Jack is our captain, McGinn is basically the first name on the team sheet and Dean knows and trusts Conor to play decently.

    I'm irritated now, thanks.

Wait, what? Did you use the word "Lazy" in that post? It's pretty obvious to me why that particular word came so effortlessly to you when posting on this subject. :crylaugh: I'm not sure even a three year term in a Common Purpose Reeducation Gulag will get you sorted.

I really hate lazy thinking comparisons like that. This kind of casual robotism needs to be called out.

Friend of mine who works in football describes him as 'talented but completely off the rails'.

TBH, it doesn't sound like the kind of acquisition we're targeting. There's a big emphasis on character and so far we've shown no indication of any interest in re-railing derailed talent.

And I'm fine with that. There's enough talent out there and we have enough resources to buy stable, quality players rather than gambling on mining the talent seams of mavericks.

There's one phrase that is used to describe some players that absolutely gives me the shits: "Unplayable on his day". I could go my whole life long happy if Villa never sign another UOHiD waster.

Fortunately, I think the management have a similar aversion to the mercurial and value 9/10 consistent quality. Where a player puts in a 7 rating for nine games out of ten with one dud performance over a 1/10 stellar where a player gives one 10 rating (UOHiD) and nine 5 ratings with his load then having to be picked up by others.

Played well, but needs to stop holding onto the ball for too long in front of our own area, even one of our players shouted man on to him before he lost it for there 2nd and I’m sure the 1st was aswell

It was two such awful decisions even the Spuds players were shouting, "Man on" to him through embarrassed pity.

  5. Didn't do a thing right. It looked like a **** up sending him on within minutes and he got no better. He was bordering on a liability in terms of the effect he had on the game.

Same here. I pretty much don't watch any football anymore, I listen on the radio. But only Villa. nothing else interests me.

I remember our mate Witton_Lane was the same. I remember him saying to me me once on that subject.

WL: "I'm the most one-eyed football fan you could meet, I'm only interested in watching Villa."

privateer: "Don't glance at his blind eye. Just don't look at his unseeing opaque pupil."

    pivateer: "D'oh!"

    privateer: "OK. Ppppppppokerface."

Very disappointed with Jack, he needs to learn from that, and fast. He's lucky he only cost us one goal, he almost cost us in the first half losing the ball deep in our first half by dicking about like he's playing against Rotherham instead of CL finalists.

Yeah. I'm more than a little annoyed about how some of the players were dawdling and gave the ball away so cheaply. Not saying they wouldn't have prevailed but way too many times we gave the ball away cheaply.

There's a few who need to wake up fast and realise they ain't in **** rural Kansas anymore, they're in New York.

For me this team hints at Smith protecting the new lads. Spurs are a quality team and could bash us 5-0 easily, regardless of our team selection. Just like Liverpool and Man City have done. But it is the wrong team selection.

Doesn't really fit in with Smith's "Go out to win every game" philosophy. That says he has already given this up as a loss. TBF, maybe that is entirely realistic as an expectation. It's one shared by many on here, as has been written by many leading up to the game.

Personally, I'd rather lose a game we are going to lose with Guilbert in and Taylor out.

    Taylor oh god noo

**** sake. That's a shocker. I have no idea wtf he is doing with those fullbacks. Be fair to say that gives me a huge sinking feeling and all optimism has just drained away. I assume Guilbert is injured? Surely?

I think a big problem I had was the commentary and media, id had enough of it, made casually watching games unenjoyable because its 2 hours of garbage being spouted of you

living abroad and now with different commentary teams I might pick it up again, off to watch the villa in german I think, watched the playoff game vs the baggies in dutch and it was honestly more enjoyable than watching sky

 Yes, I understand that view entirely. You couldn't pay me to watch Match Of The Day and hearing that word removed Tyldesley parroting "Beckham territory" any time there was a free kick within 40 yds of goal made me want to reach for some pliers to start pulling my own teeth out to dull my senses to what I was being subjected to.

I think I watched 2 and that was just in the pub with mates, didn't watch a single one sat at home by myself

watched Liverpool last night, man city earlier, bit of everton and a bit of Bournemouth (though admittedly got fed up and turned it off)

I suppose now we are back I might watch some other non-Villa games but I've never really been one for that.

Odd as it may sound to some, I'm a Villa fan,  not a "football fan". In much the same way someone may characterise themselves as a, say, Bowie fan or a Black Sabbath fan rather than a "music fan".

Anyway this Norwich game eh? My days Liverpool etc etc

    #Loyalty#standwithKeenan

Quite. **** the haters and double the the imitators.

One of those weird games. I hate Norwich - mainly because I loathe Delia Smith and Ed Balls with an intensity that would chill their blood if they knew the depth and malignancy of it. And that Stephen Fry's turned into a bit of a word removed as well since he became a housewife.

And I hate Liverpool. No further explanation or justification required there, obviously.

So, not actually watching it but I guess it's the result I'd prefer that's going to eventuate. We won't be challenging Liverpool for position, I don't think, but we absolutely want Norwich losing every game because that'll leave only two more teams we have to be better than.
