  1. (2) This point may appear rather small fry. But as a keen purveyor of football games i notice that the most repected of these: Pro Evolution Soccer, does not have an Aston Villa License. It does not have one for many Prem clubs to be fair. But it does for Manchester Utd and Arsenal. As these games are played around the world (USA and Japan in particular) i feel that an Aston Villa license would help to raise our profile worldwide. (Plus it would be more fun for me!) Any ideas on why only certain clubs grant licenses for such products and if we have any plans to give ours to the developers?

I understand that Pro Evo are only allowed 2 licenced teams due to EA's FIFA owning everything.

    That's correct, yes.

  2. NV, how do deals like this work ?

I presume there's a payment up front or an annual payment, and then payments based on performance ? TV appearances ?

    That's right OBE, yes.

How do shirt/leisure sales figures affect the clubs deal ? Does the club get a percentage on each shirt sold, or are there bonus's for target levels ? Is the industry standard deal based on payments or sales results ?

It's split. Obviously there are performance and exposure related incentives, but for sales there would normally be royalties involved - usually 10% on the cost price - so if Nike sold a product in JJB that had cost £10 to make (and it had a Villa badge on), then Villa would get £1.

In the simplest terms, I'm wondering if I spend £50 on a shirt, how much of it can I expect to go into the club ?

Depends where you buy it from, and also the %age royalty might be higher on shirts than other products. As above, if a shirt costs £10 to make (for simplicity of the sum!) and you buy it from JJB, then Villa will get a quid. If you buy it from the club shop then Villa get a quid, plus the retail mark up i.e. a retailer might buy it for £20 from Nike and sell it for £40, meaning you buy it from the club and Villa get £21 rather than JJB getting £20 and Villa £1.

Put simply, if you want more money going into the club, buy your products directly from them. It makes a MASSIVE difference.

Obviously there are other complexities in an agreement like this such as exclusivity on products, varying royalty percentages etc but this is a basic model based around the shirt only.

  3. There's certainly a lot of talk about it, Roger, but so far I've had nothing confirmed. There's talk of a court case etc but I've not really had time to investigate it further. It'd be one in the eye for adidas, that's for sure. THere's always rumours that Nike will buy Umbro to get the England deal, but again, it's nothing more than conjecture at this stage.

  4. Who did you have to leave? I have got a minimum of seven and those I am certain will be leaving!

Also £50million? Who did you play to buy???

Also copying and pasting works a treat for when you can't post what you want :winkold:

I couldn't retrieve what I'd done unfortunately. The squad I had, which was a best case scenario job and from which you can work out the 'in's and out's' was the following:

    Gordon

    Sorenson

    Olejnik

    Hughes

    Bardsley

    Mellberg

    Cahill

    Laursen

    Ridgewell

    Chivu

    Bouma

    Baines

    Young

    Maloney

    McCann

    Barton

    Petrov

    Davis

    Gardner

    Osbourne

    Barry

    Richardson

    Carew

    Moore

    Bent

    Agbonlahor

    Sharp

    I'll have that.

  5. Let's stop the witch hunt - we can sit and wait to see if anything does happen now

    I sit and wait.

Does Juan Angel, contemplate his fate?

    And does he know

    Whether Jermain Defoe

    Will stay or be sold?

    ´cos AWOL's been told

There's a story, that will soon unfold

So when I’m lying in my bed

    Thoughts running through my head

And I feel the deal is dead

    We'll keep our Angel instead.

Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week.

  6. Have we signed anyone yet ?

Obviously 4 weeks in January might not be enough time to bring in any decent players, Harewood excluded of course :)

Beckham at Villa what a waste of a good rumour, Defoe, and Keane were bad enough SWP even but Beckham, we need players who can play in defensive point grabbing formations, accept high balls all day long, left wingers who can play at right back, left backs who can play as centre forwards surely, although his free kick expertise would certainly be an asset :)

I was always brought up to believe that if you can't add something constructive, you shouldn't add anything at all.

  7. A chance for some light-hearted debate. It's Man Ure vs Cashsea today and the winners will hammer a blow into the other side's title hopes.

So assuming that the title race is already down to two horses, who do you want to win? -

    1) The Nouveau Riche of Chelsea, who are buying trophy after trophy;

    or

    2) The old Nouveau Riche of Manchester United who used to buy trophy after trophy until Roman conquered.

Better the (red) devil you know (but have spent years hating) or rather the Roman hordes, so you can write it off to a big bank balance rather than a superior standard of play.

In the words of Lloyd Grossman - David, it's over to you...

  8. Suddenly it all becomes clear! Thanks Cat!

My pics were taken on a Casio Exilim with a 4 megapixel res. I've had it a couple of years but I've been really pleased with it's performance.
