  1. We not a counter attacking team any-more once Mcleish realises this the better.
  2. From his press conference it sounds like we are going to play a deep 4-4-2, Bannan won't be playing either. Heskey in one assumes.
  3. I thought he spoke very well actually that's one of his strong points, he often speaks sense and I find myself agreeing with him *shudder* You can definitely see how he would have managed to blag the managers job in the interview with Randy.
  4. They are strange examples. If you watch Barca/Arsenal they would usually pass in the situation Gabby was in. In this instance he scored so no problem but play that scenario 100 times over 50 times he passes to Bent, 50 times he shoots. Now which scenario would result in the most goals? :winkold: It's a real pet-hate of mine I've even called Bannan out for it earlier in the season (and so did Mcleish). Arsenal built a dynasty on this extra pass concept, and still score plenty of goals with it.
  5. A great read isn't it? A quite unconventional rise to football stardom the Celtic stuff was LOL
  6. What? The point is he shouldn't start instead of Bannan. I think you have problems with interpretation.
  7. I'd actually like to see Heskey and Bannan in the same team. Bannan would have a great time picking out Heskey with his clever passes. Heskey in turn thrives on getting well placed balls played up for him to hold up and offload. They'd compliment each other superbly in the right system. I tend to agree they would compliment each other. But Heskey should never be in to replace Bannan. Plus Heskey getting old now and injured a lot, we need to move on...
  8. Bannan says Houllier, that's enough for me Mcleish was playing Heskey ahead of him until the lump got injured
  9. I only referenced Houllier because they were talking about whether MON held back his career or told him he wasn't big enough to play. The article confirms that whilst MON did play him on occasion it was Houllier who really bought him into the team and told him that height wasn't an issue. So those who were saying MON was dismissive of him were probably right to an extent.
  10. Funny I read the article and it looks like you have cut it? Cut it or taken an on-topic sample from it? What's your point exactly? Anyway I think we can all agree we owe a debt of gratitude to Houllier for bringing Barry Bannan to our attention.
  11. Recent article/interview with Barry here: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/barry-bannan-iniesta-and-messi-prove-height-does-not-matter-2363833.html
  12. Pretty much one of the most ridiculous posts I have read on here. Erm why? Bent had an open goal! Gabby took a risk and it paid off but should that situation ever arise again Gabby should pass it to Bent I'd expect Bent to do likewise in that situation. An open goal is much easier than one with a goal-keeper and defenders in front of it. Only a week ago Gabby was anonymous vs QPR! Yes he had one of his best matches in ages against Gary Caldwell on Saturday but rest assured Caldwell is terrible. Lets not get carried away and start comparing Gabby to Henry There's been plenty of Gabby false dawns in the past. If he can score 20+ goals this season I'll happily eat my words alas I can't see it happening.
  13. Henry at Arsenal PMSL Agree he will be back to mediocre soon enough. He's lucky his first goal went in as he should have undoubtedly passed to Bent there.
  14. Bannan is a good player but how does he play teh Barca way cause he can pass the ball . Most be thousands of Barca style players out there then It's where he passes which makes a difference. Quite often he'll make a short return pass and the player he's passing to just panics.
  15. Only slight bit of hope is that they will have lots of players coming off international duty. YaYa will walk all over our midfield, I'm scared just thinking about it. Hope we don't sit back and do an Everton against them.
  16. Like him more and more. Love how he plays the Barca way even though it confuses some of our less cultured players sometimes. He's so calm on the ball and so precise with his passing. Fantastic at set-pieces as well.
  17. Bannan missing a goal here. Another assist from him today big-boys will come knocking soon.
  18. Even though it was against one of the leagues whipping boys Gabby, Bannan and Bent look quite a potent force going forward. Bannan in the first half bossed the show. Not sure where is was in the 2nd half he was double marked I think but this left more space for Gabby and Bent. Gabby's best position is defiantly coming from the wing Henry style. Still concerns about possession due to our poor distribution from the back but at least up top we are looking more potent and with Bannan we have someone who is great at set-pieces.
  19. We'll find out how good we are when we play a proper team in 2 weeks.
