The higher ups seem content to let him try though, which worries me more than how shit this clown is at his job.

The complete shift in transfer policy (Ings aside) when Gerrard came in backs this up.

They’ve gambled and it looks to be back firing at the moment. Let’s just hope it doesn’t get quite as bad as Everton’s situation.

    Coutinho——————————-Bailey
    ——Dendoncker—Kamara—Luiz——
    Digne——Mings—Chambers—Cash

Go back to basics. Sit back, defend and try to counter and nick a goal on the break.

If he plays the fullbacks high and plays McGinn and/or Ramsey, we’ll get ripped apart (we’ll lose regardless).

Pretty much every goal you concede can be put down to an individual mistake somewhere, but actually having a well coached, organised team that has a setup that suits, limits the opportunities for mistakes to occur.

And funny that i cant remember him bemoaning the indivudual error of a player failing to track a run that lead to the west ham winner, but then that was his captain who apparently is infallible.

True. Nor did he call out Konsa’s attempt to stop Zaha shooting for the first Palace goal.

As somebody else said, most goals are because of an error. The fact the opposition team has the ball in the first place means you’ve given it to them at some point.

Gerrard should focus on setting the team up so we’re not so open whenever another team attacks us. A good start would be to tell the fullbacks to stop playing as strikers and by dropping both McGinn and Ramsey for Luiz and Dendoncker.

Go back to basics. Make us hard to beat. O’Neill wasn’t a great manager but we were f***** difficult to beat and he had a game plan. Gerrard plays as if he has the best players in the world at his disposal.

City will put at least 4 past us today and I’m really hoping that’s the final nail in the coffin.

  4. Why oh why do we not sell players when they barely feature?

Honestly, I think the board thinks we’re in Europe. We don’t need to keep players that barely get a look in and I really don’t think we need quality back up’s for our first XI in every position.

The club should start focusing on improving the starting XI. Our squad is bloated and overpaid.

Nakamba is a top professional and probably a great guy too but he’s never gonna cut it as a regular PL player.

  5. Our scouting and signing of young players seems really good, but for the first team, it’s woeful.

We’ve added one starter this season to a team that finished 14th last season. Couple that with the fact two of the three promoted clubs are giving it a real go and the teams around us last season have improved, we’re in a spot of bother.

People think we’ll improve drastically when Gerrard leaves, I’m not so sure. We’ll improve, sure, but I’d bite your hands off for another 14th place finish this season. I’d be amazed if we finished any higher. The squad is all over the place in terms of balance and quality. The midfield will likely be a problem AGAIN this season.

The club isn’t very well run on the pitch at all in my opinion. We spend a lot of money and go backwards. Tragic really.

Forrest, Newcastle and Brighton all have better scouting than we do. West Ham had a very good window. Window gets 6/10, dendonkers not what we were told we were after. And other clubs around us signed players we could have got for what we needed

I don’t think there is any money left tbh. We’ve blown all that on Bailey, Carlos, Digne, Coutinho, Kamara, Ings and their wages.

There's Dendonckner. We are absolutely going to be relegated if we don't get some more fire-power and skill in our midfield, too -- never mind our toothless front.

I don’t rate our midfield, but I honestly don’t think it’s as bad as it’s made to look under Gerrard. They don’t even play in the middle of the field under Gerrard so they always look horrible.

  8. Wolves mate of mine reckons he’s good in a three man midfield in the defensive position but not so much in a two or if he’s asked to get forward.

If that’s the case, he might be ok alongside Kamara in a two? Perhaps with Luiz or Ramsey in there too? (I know, I know)

Good age, solid player, low fee, doesn't sound too bad.

I'm fed up of hearing things like this - not a dig at you.

We need players to come in and improve the starting XI, not players who we've got on a 'low fee' who will only fill in when needed.

  10. I’ve always thought Buendia was overrated on here tbh. I think he definitely has a place in the squad but he’s too slow and ponderous on the ball to be a top player. He loses the ball way too much to play in a midfield three and I don’t think he has the pace to play out wide.

I like him and want him to be great but he’s really nothing that special unfortunately.

I’m beginning to think Buendia isn’t all that. Watkins I used to enjoy watching but I think he has also either regressed, or been found out and so is easily dealt with by defenders. Ings is useful for a side that can play the ball into the opponents box - something we can’t do.

Buendia is massively overhyped by Villa fans. He’s a decent enough player but he’s miles away from someone like Odegaard. He gives the ball away far too much to play as a 10 and isn’t quick enough out wide.

12 points behind Arsenal after 5 games. How scary is that?

There was a time we were boasting about beating them to the signing of Buendia. How things change.

We’re going to be right amongst it this season unless things change. Don’t get me wrong, the absolute first thing the board need to do to change this is to sack Gerrard but I won’t lie to you, some of the performances from almost all of our players should concern people.

I too think we have a squad that should finish somewhere between 10th - 15th but right now, some of our players look truly, truly awful.

I really hope a lot of this is down to Gerrard because if it isn’t, this thread is going to be an ever present this season.

  13. I’ve got to the point where I can’t even be bothered to criticise individuals. They’ve all been rubbish.

At some point, we need to just accept that it’s HOPEFULLY Gerrard and the system that is the problem. I think it is, but these players do make me nervous how shit they are.
