  1. Such a good player and a dream for the manager. Left back, right back, left mid, right mid. Doesn’t matter. You play him, and he performs every.single.match.

Probably one of my favourite ever Villa players. As good as he is as a fullback, nothing will beat that feeling when he played left wing for us and he squared his defender up to run at him. It got Villa park to its feet because you knew something was about to happen.

What a career. What a man.

  2. It might be that he has some sort of transfer payment triggered if he gets to a certain amount of appearances for us?

Not sure. I just can’t understand how somebody with such a strong reputation when he came here, can just not ever feature for us.

I kind of want him gone now just so we don’t have to think about this bizarre situation anymore.

Has happened for years and will keep happening. If football just changed to 2 x 30 min clock that pauses when the ball isn't in play then this removes all of this time wasting instantly. It also removes the chance of bent refs to add on more time for the top teams.

Came here to post something similar. To be honest, time wasting is a cancer in football and it doesn’t get looked at enough. Villa wasted a lot of time today and whilst it’s great that it’s helped us see out the win, ultimately, you have to ask yourself, have fans come to see a game of football and to be entertained or a team just waste as much time as possible with no intention of taking throw ins and goal kicks quickly?

Its great that it’s helped us get 3 points today but somewhere down the line, we’re going to be those Brighton fans complaining and moaning that a team has done it to us.

I think I read somewhere that the ball is in play, on average, for 58 minutes of a PL match. That’s pretty shocking if you think about it. Surely the answer is to stop the clock if the ball goes out of play and perhaps shorten the match? I don’t know, but time wasting is horrible in general and it’s the fans that get robbed at the end of the day.

Some will say it's a stone wall penalty, mainly because of all the instances we have seen in previous games, it's actually quite shocking and unbelievable, but they got that call bang on, VAR how it's supposed work.

Disagree. It’s a penalty. I’m amazed it wasn’t given. It’s a heavy touch by Digne and the Brighton player nips in before getting absolutely pelted. Not sure how Digne’s standing foot ‘gets the ball’.

But I don’t care. We’ve had some howlers given against us in recent times so we deserve a bit of luck.

Absolutely not. He touches the ball with his back leg and it is the Brighton player moving into Digne that makes the contact. For once they got that 100% right

Never in the reign of Pigs pudding is that a penalty and I would say the same if it had been the other way round

    100% a Penalty.

I disagree. The first stage is Digne clearing the ball (attempting) and the second is the Brighton player throwing himself at the ball, he’s already lost his balance. Had Digne taken a touch before the clearance I would agree. It’s just a coming together nothing more.

A coming together? Digne boots his ankle and doesn’t kick the ball. How is it not a penalty? It’s accidental, granted, but it’s still a blatant penalty/foul. Without question.

fpl_lyric has changed his location for from Austin to Boston to Birmingham in the past few weeks, never mind the name change in the past hour.

He copied the 1_8_7_4 account with the Emery stuff. Wouldn’t believe a word he says.

Was thrown in at Old Trafford to anchor a team to play out from the back, something he's never been even average in. Hasn't played much in years.

The inevitable happens and all Villa "fans" are out there crusifying him. Well done people.

He was poor, but he was also thrown under a bus by the manager.

Misplacing simple passes and catching crosses isn’t exactly evidence of him being thrown under the bus by the manager.

He may not be suited to that sort of game but let’s not pretend he was anything other than horrific in what was probably the worst goalkeeping performance I’ve seen from a Villa player in however long.

Maybe we’re spoilt with Martinez, but Olsen looks every bit a car crash of a goalkeeper. I’d be surprised if he plays for us much again.

I hope you’re right but I really don’t think that you are. We’ll just have to wait and see. He isn’t strong, he isn’t fast, he doesn’t hit the ball particularly hard, he’s small and he gives the ball away a lot. He’s decent (not great) in tight spaces but he doesn’t have the pace to break away and often when he does find space he loses possession anyway.
I would be much less shocked if Coutinho starts to flourish under Unai, than I would if Emi does. Hopefully they both will.

Probably where I’m at. Coutinho has been poor on a number of occasions but even in games where he doesn’t play all that well, he can do something that others can’t. And when he does play well, there isn’t anybody else in our squad that can match him.

Buendia is just a bit ‘meh’ for me. No pace, strength, shooting ability, dribbling ability and he loses the ball too much. The people saying he will come good, that’s fine, but I think it’s wishful thinking rather than the evidence in front of your eyes.

Bailey is a good example of someone who had the potential to come good and is now showing it. He had a bit of pace, very good dribbling ability, has a cracking shot on him and he’s a good finisher. I always thought he’d fail based on his attitude and his lack of effort but the attributes were always there. Buendia doesn’t have that. He works hard, but I don’t see much quality in him. Not yet anyway.

  10. Perhaps a little bit of a flat track bully.

He’s not a bad player but he’s not really what we need most of the time.

Whether you rate him or not, he isn’t worth anywhere near what we paid for him and what we’ll pay him personally over the next couple of years.

I think he’ll still play a part, it’s just depressing knowing what his wages are. We have no chance of shifting him.

Couldn't disagree more, but we will see and time under Emery will tell.

What is stupid is saying that you'd be happy for selling him for half the money we paid for him less than two weeks into the tenure of a world class manager.

He definitely deserves more time under this new manager and hope he comes good. As a club, we can’t afford to sell players for half what we paid!! Saying that, we’ve given away so many for free over the years, nothing surprises me.

As would every player in world football.

Your logic is beyond backwards, if you can't see that Emi has the raw attributes to be a top player, and Emery is the best manager we are going to get to make that happen, then I am unable to help you.

What are the ‘raw attributes’ in your book?

For me, it’s pace, strength, dribbling, heading, passing, shooting. Things like that. Buendia doesn’t have many of them.

You may well think he is a good player and that he’ll come good for us, but I don’t agree that he has many of the raw attributes to be a top player. Hope I’m wrong.

These players are capable of beating good teams but the consistency is lacking. I think the first team  needs tweaking rather than a major overhaul

It does. What we need is pace and power in attack.
If we can bring in another wide player with pace, it will allow us to play Ramsey and NEW either side of Luiz/Kamara/Dendoncker with Bailey and Watkins further forward.

Emery will know what he wants but I can't see more than 1 coming in, in January.

With the new hybrid formation, I expect us to play something like this after Jan...

    -------------------------------------Watkins-------------------------------------------
    -----------------------------------------------Bailey------------------------------------
    -----New--------------------------------------------------------------------Ramsey
    ----------------------------Luiz----------------Kamara------------------------------
    Digne---------------------Mings-----------Konsa-------------------------Cash
    --------------------------------------Martinez-----------------------------------------

In the Summer, it will again be more out's than In's, but Emery might want another centre half and another forward player.

I'm struggling to see what Mings did wrong yesterday.

Their second, he slips, pure bad luck, weak defending from Chambers then followed (shock), allowing Rashford an easy finish.

Third - no blame at all, this is all on Olsen. He has to try and block the shot. Appalling play from Olsen.

Fourth - that ball from Garancho or whatever his name is was superb. I find it hard to put any blame on him for this one either.

He was a little unlucky yesterday, Olsen however, was a disaster.

Should have anticipated the first by being on the edge of his box and coming out to clear the ball over the top.
God knows what that pass was for the second.
Should have claimed the cross for the fourth.

It was hands down the worst goalkeeping display I've seen since Nyland in the 5-5 against Forest and even that wasn't as bad.
Don't think Mings did a lot wrong yesterday in truth. He'll start against Brighton.

Debatable. We might still have Gerrard.

I realised that after I posted it.

Maybe he knew if he'd chipped it and scored, his teammates would have bollocked him.

  16. Surprised so many want to keep Sanson or think the club will look to keep him.

As much as I’d love him to come in and be brilliant for us, there is a reason he isn’t playing much.

No way we’ll be able to get rid of Ings, Coutinho due to their contracts.
