  1. On the subject of Coyle, each and every one of us would have given him a piggy back from Bolton to Brum during January if we thought we could have signed him up.

So what's changed? He's an amazing manager who plays some quite brilliant football.

As the situation stands, i'd now have him as my first choice.

"each and every one of us would"?!?

I think you'll find I was not one of them.. and will not be one of them.

The point is, about 6 months ago, Coyle was being touted as an ideal although unrealistic target for us.

The general feeling towards potentially appointing him has gone from 80% in favour of, to the exact opposite.

Genuinly dont understand people being negative about one of the best young managers in the British game.

He is not good enough to take us to the next level. He has found his level that he works well in no dount

Mediocre football at mediocre teams with little ambition.

What Lerner needs to do is go large and get van Gaal to transform the club from top 8 to top 4.

MON is a much better manager than Coyle and he couldnt do it, you need that extra bit of class like Alex Ferguson, van Gaal, Mourinho, Hitzfeld etc all have.

If we are all happy with Villa having a decent cup run and just missing out on Europe then fine go for Coyle.

I am not content with that to be honest are you ???

He's succeeded everywhere he's been. His teams do not play mediocre football, if you think that you've clearly never watched them, both Burnley and Bolton play very attractive football.

Coyle also seems to improve all different abilities of players whenever he coaches them, a quality MoN had too.

KHV, the managers you quote we need are ridiculous choices considering the limited spending budget we need to put into place to reduce the debt.

van Gaal is renowned for using youth and academy players.

Look at what he did with Ajax and Alkmaar. Coyle will get us nowhere apart from exactly where we are.

Im starting to think we should get a second medical opinion on GH and let him continue what he started

  2. Anyone else bracing themselves for a really shit appointment like Coyle or Martinez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Explain how these are shit please?

Randy Lerner bought Aston Villa and had a vision to take us to the champions league.

He had a five year plan that involved Martin O'Neill, it back fired and we fell just short.

Next he bought in Houllier who had a plan to change the ethos and the way Villa played. He had alot to change in his first season and would hev done well if he was fit to continue.

Houllier was the right idea, now he had to go and get somebody that could continue what Gerard had started. rebuliding the sqaud who had knowledge of Europe who could work with youth and who had vast experience and knowledge in doing that. van Gaal was probably never on his radar and I doubt he has ever heard of him.

Coyle started well with Bolton had them in 6th then they completly crumbled got spanked in the biggest game in the clubs history and Martinez is a quitly spoken nice man who keeps Wigan 5th from bottom year in year out.

Coyle and Martinez smack of lack of ambition so ifts either of them sit back and enjoy mid table seasons. Please tell me who Coyle and Martinez are going to attract to Villa Park?? Martin Petrov and Hugo Rodallega lol

    THIS.

I often tune in especially to watch Bolton play, they are like the Barcelona of the premier league :crylaugh:

They were brilliant in the cup semi final too. Oh wait hang on.........

Bolton lost one game. Coyle is shit.

An amazing manger who plays brilliant football????

It's a bit far fetched you must admit

  6. Lets compare Rafas record to Villa managers over the last 25 years. Oh yeah he has a better record than all of them.

    So did Houllier !!

I dont care what managers have done before, its what they will do with Villa. FSW will need money to do anything, big money. Martinez/Coyle have potential and could achieve more. Its a gamble, but its comparable to signing a young up and coming player rather than a journeyman. We know what we will get with the journeyman and it will be solid, but the youngster may surprise us all.

    Like John Gregory :D

  7. It's nothing to do with what he's won. I just physically hate the man like most people on this planet do. I couldn't stomach the vile swine as thehead of our club. We are better than that. I'm seething with rage now just at the thought of him. I need to avoid this thread for awhile.

  8. Lets compare Rafas record to Villa managers over the last 25 years. Oh yeah he has a better record than all of them.

    So did Houllier !!

I actually think Houllier would have done well had he been given the oportunty to continue what he had started

  9. Just seen this on Sky Sports website. Sorry if it's already been posted as I haven't got time to trawl through the previous pages:

Well if Rafa has stated what transfer budget he would like then it's safe to say he will not be getting the job

I can,t imagine Randy would appoint Rafa, he wouldn't do that to us. You can't appoint a manager that so many people despise. I didn't hate Houllier by do detest to my utter core Rafa Benitez.

Randy won't do that to us.

I dont think many people despise Rafa, I dont.

He is not my number 1 choice but he is certainly better than Martinez, Coyle and McClaren

  10. On the subject of rafa or wally, I've decided for sure that either of these are appointed and I definitely wont renew my season ticket.

Whether that makes me less of a fan, oh well, me missus wants to get pregnant and I cant justify to myself making an exception to go and watch either of those clowns.

I'm sorry but when you support a team you support a team regardless of the manager. I'd still go and watch Villa even if we were in the conference and Dowie was our manager and I'm sure the very large majority of people on here would too.

Thats **** bullshit. If they appoint a vile pig like Rafa they are alienating a big portion of the fans. People pay to support a team they can get behind, i physically hate Rafa Benitez and will stop watching football if he becomes our manager. I will also do what i can to voice my displeasure at Randy.

Rafa Benitez is a gutter swine piece of shit ****. He better stay the **** away from Villa.

Why do people in young offenders institutions get to use the Internet?

Benitez better stay away from Villa??????

Lets compare Rafas record to Villa managers over the last 25 years. Oh yeah he has a better record than all of them.

Some people post some bizarre things :?

  11. Why on Earth would anybody want Owen Coyle ffs :?

Are we not wanting Aston Villa to be moving onward and upward

I don't think it will be but I'd just like to point out that at some point younger talent needs to be given a chance!

Moyes was an Owen Coyle though before he managed Evedrton FC. I'm sure Kenwright and co interviewed a number of candidates and decided he was the best man for the job because he impressed them.

I would hope that Villa's board would have a good look round and possibly interview a few candidates to see who likewise impressed them equally.

If Villa announced Owen Coyle or Martinez with possibly GH as DOF if and when he gets better, I for one would at least give them a chance!

I think Coyle or Martinez is a step backwards

  12. I have probably missed what MysteryMan said but reading between the lines of the last few posts I guess he has said that he envisages another meltdown on here similar to that of when we signed Benty in January?

Has anyone considered that a meltdown can be because of a negative reaction as well as a positive one? Maybe we are looking to employ a manager who is not going to be well received and MM can see a moaning meltdown on the horizon!

Personally, I hope that it is a positive meltdown and Villa announce that Louis Van Gaal has put pen to paper on a 4 yeard deal to manage the mighty Villans!! :D

    Fistface????!!!! :o

I hope its Louis van Gaal too 8)

  13. Just been on the Liverpool forum...They adore Rafa and think he will do a great job at Villa. They seem to think the British media have been out to get Benitez for a while now, and he is a great manager.

    Never trust a Liverfool fan

  14. How dare they treat Steve like this!! I'm livid!

Magic Marlon the legend comes to mind looking at your avatar.

Whatever happended to him? Has he changes his screenname?

    Sorry On Topic.

Rafa is by all accounts a very decent man as was GH. If he's a bit of a control freak then I would doubt very much if RL would want him at the club.

I'll be surprised if he becomes our manager though because of his track record of preferring to buy an endless succession of foreign players and some of them not very good when he was LFC. The wage bill at LFC must have been horrendous - would Randy really want that again?

    He did buy Torres though.

To be honest I think Randy will have set out the wage budget before hand.I think any new manger that comes in will know what they are working with.

I still hope it's gonna be van Gaal out of the blue.

Not sure about Rafa, I think the Liverpool situation was turning sour with Hicks and Gillett.

Inter didnt do well with him, think he won the Euro super cup?? Following on from Jose there would have been a tough ask anyway plus I think Serie A football is a totally different kettle of fish. I watch it on ESPN occasionaly and its s***.

  15. Ranieri - wouldn't be a bad one actually, guided Chelsea to a 2nd place finish which at the time was their highest ever finish in a number of years, as well as CL qualification.

Then again in the past 6 years I'm pretty sure he has been sacked from 4 clubs for underperforming. He seems like a second rate Gerard Houllier

nope. he got the sack at juve after he worked miracles when the board thought they coudl do better, they have gone to shit after they made the mistake of letting him go. he then took on the poisoned chalice of the roma job (as he's a fan) and the inevitable happened. roma were in a shit state before the recent takeover, way too much player power (they kicked out spalletti) and zero money. a poor director of football (signed adriano) etc. etc.

ranieri built the valencia side that rafa won with, and built the chelsea side that mourinho won with. he's taken clubs from outside the top bracket and built a team that can challenge before.

    i think he'd be a good appointment.

Hard to judge people who have managed in Italy especially with the big clubs like Juve and Roma. The owners of these clubs are corrupt and mercinary.

  16. Never posted a rumour on here before but my mate's mate works for 118bet in the call centre, the shirt sponsors of Bolton. Obviously they have an interest in knowing what is happening but the word in the office is that Coyle can 100% be ruled out...

He's on holiday in Tunisia and hasn't been been contacted. Gartside has also said it's a non starter. I'd advise against backing Coyle

I would be suprised if he was even considered

Well I have just had a burst of texts from different people (none of who have been a source before) that says its Coyle. I have bet on him as I have a strange feeling and I never win on bets so want to make sure its not, even if it costs me a fiver  I would not take any of their words to be fair though.

Would you be happy with Coyle???

Hardly gets the pulse racing does it, on a par with Dave Jones :(
