  1. Never posted a rumour on here before but my mate's mate works for 118bet in the call centre, the shirt sponsors of Bolton. Obviously they have an interest in knowing what is happening but the word in the office is that Coyle can 100% be ruled out...

He's on holiday in Tunisia and hasn't been been contacted. Gartside has also said it's a non starter. I'd advise against backing Coyle

I would be suprised if he was even considered

  2. Infact I would rather have had Houllier carry on for another 2 years as I believe in time he would have got things right with the way he was trying to change the club.

At least thats one thing we can agree on.

I honestly think he would have done well next season

  3. Have you seen how the youth and reserve teams have been doing over the last few years some of you lot? This club does not need "restructuring" from the youth team upwards. And MON did not cock anything up - whoever appointed Houllier did! It's easily rectified, though. Stop watching Eurosport and trying to appoint Spanish waiters and former war criminals and get one of the young Scots in!

    What a load of cack.

MON did not cock anything up :bonk:

Apart from the wage bill and freezing out players who should have been in the first team, not bringing through the youth players and buggereing off 5 days before a season started because he didnt get his own way!!!!!

Your are hilarious and delusional, nice comment about former war criminals too.

    What a pile of drivvle

  5. So basically we should steer clear of one of the best managers in the world because he might do "a Ramos"? Is that right?

What's to stop a british based manager coming in and being similarly shit in the league (Ramos won the League Cup, remember)?

OK lets just leave it there shall we

Why? I was asking a fair enough question I thought. I'm trying to understand your side of things because it isnt making much sense to me.

But, yeah fine. Leave it there.

Im astonished that some people would have any doubts about van Gaal :?

  6. Owen Coyle's achievements in 8 years of football management

    Honours

    Burnley

    * 2008–09: The Championship Playoff Winner (promotion to the Premier League) – Burnley

    * The Championship Manager of the Month - September 2008

    Bolton Wanderers

    * Premier League Manager of the Month - November 2010

    WOW

I think that says it all really NO THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Considering hes only been in management since 2008 id say thats a decent record.

I mean, if were looking for a sucessful continental then why not take Juande Ramos?? I mean, he took Seville from bottom half of La Liga and made them into champs league regulars and title challengers. Also won silverware with them. i think we should give him the chance to manage in the PL.

    Oh wait...

He has been in management since 2003!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Falkirk and St Johnstone

Sorry, i hadnt been on Wikipedia to check 8)

So hes a shit manager because he didnt win the SPL with either Falkirk or St Johnstone?

    Alrighty then!

    LOL

I never said he was shit. I dont want him because I think we should be aiming higher. Randy had a 5 year plan, MON cocked it up so time for a new 3-5 year plan with a top coach who can restructure the club from Youth level to 1st Team.

I dont think he fits the bill, we have a massive chance for change right now but a Coyle appointment is a bit like John Gregaory all over again, will be good for a couple of seasons then go South as it always does.

Why cant we do something big bold and exciting.

I belive we are a big club capable of big things

    Thats fair enough.

But youve dodged a big part of the point i was trying to make.

What if Van Gaal came in and 'did a Ramos'??

What then? Sack him and move onto the next 'top manager' until we get it right??

You need to look at the bigger picture rather than just seeing Van Gaals name and having an accident in your pants

I dont see Moyes, Coyle or Hughes talking the club any further. Infact I would rather have had Houllier carry on for another 2 years as I believe in time he would have got things right with the way he was trying to change the club.

Middle of the road British managers are not my idea of taking this club to the next level which is what I belive Randy Lerners long term goal has been all along.

There is always a risk with any new manager but if you want to compete with the best then you must get the best IMO

Lerner did the same thing in paying for Bent, we needed a quality striker and he went big with £24m and it paid off.

Why not do the same with a manger, and I dont think van Gaal would be a failure because it's not something he does

  7. Van Gaal would be a brilliant appointment.

But seriously can anyone really see him coming to the Villa?

I am sure Randy and the board will sound out the likes of him and Ancelotti but I don’t think they will bother telling the fans and the media that they were told to pi$$ off!!

Did you see him going to AZ Alkmaar after managing Ajax, Holland and Barcelona.

Why wouldnt he fancy a crack at the premier league? He has done everything else in world football

  9. KHV are you a recruitment consultant?

Why should the next manager have won honours at the highest level already? Why does he need to already have experience of managing a big club? If he has these things on his cv why is he available and why would he come to Villa?

The answer is because nobody else wants him as he is a has been or never quite was being!

If we are ever to compete at the highest level we need to take a chance on a manager whose star is still ascending. We need to get somebody in who is under the Champions League clubs' radars at the moment.

I've posted on here supporting Coyle, Moyes and Lambert, but the lads who are mentioning Martinez are also making a good call.

I'm telling you, though, if its Benitez there will be CIVIL WAR!!

    THANK YOU!!

BIG NAME DOES NOT EQUAL INSTANT SUCCESS!!!!

    who said instant success???

I said van Gaal neds to be given 3-5 years to transform the club top to bottom which he would do

Please tell me where van Gaal has not had success

He is available because he got the sack from Bayern Munich for coming 3rd in the bundesliga.

In his time there he won the league, the erman cup and got them to a CL final.

Why would he come to Villa?? Well the only thing he has never done is mange in the Premier League so maybe he would give it a shot

He has never been a failure anywhere and after Barcelona he went to manage AZ Alkmaar who he took to league champions and a cha, pions league spot. He could have had a bigger job but fancied the challenege.

He also works well with young academy players, look at the Ajax team he won the champions league with and the side he biult at Alkmaar.

If you want to compete with the best you need to appoint the best, seems like everybody here is happy with top 8 and a decent cup run!!!

Lerner said he had big plans for Villa when he took over and van Gaal is the right choice.

Why you mentioned Benitez I dont know, I havent mentioned hinm once?

  12. van Gaal is also renowned as an absolutely enormous prick.

    So?

If your a prick but successful I dont care 8)

Exactly. His consistency in league competition over the years stands above all the other candidates.

I hope Randy is thinking the same thing 8)

  13. What about van Gaal with AZ Alkmaar??? He went there won the league and got them in the champions league. I had never bloody heard of them before he went there !

Replace 'van Gaal' with 'McClaren' and 'AZ Alkmaar' with 'FC Twente'.

I had heard of FC Twente

plus look at McClaren with Boro, Wolfsburg and England

now look at van Gaal with Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern and Holland

    no real comparison

Boro was steves first managerial job. He won them a trophy and got them to a european final.

Van gaal did well with much better teams, whats your point?

Van gaal is clearly a way better manager but steve is not the mug people try and make him out to be.

Do you remember when McLaren neraly got Boro relegated and the fan ran on and threw his season ticket at him?

Do you remeber the failure of England in the qualifying campaign.

Do you remember how much he spent at Wolfsburg who were Bundesliga champions a couple of seasons back before he got the scak because they were 15th??

Boro won the league cup and the UEFA final was more luck than judgement.

Tell me what Hughes has done? Tell me what Moyes has done?

    Crazy post!

Exactly, which is why I dont want Moyes, Hughes or Coyle

    van Gaal all the way

But what do you expect with those teams, CL winners?! They are a very limited number of honours and a hell of a lot of teams after them each year, you need to look at achievements in context of the clubs where they happened. For example Moyes achieving 4th with Everton might not mean any medals get handed out but it's still a great achievement.

They can all survive in the premiership, are we all happy with that for Aston Villa or do we want to build and push on to the next level?

I for one dont want to survive in the top half of the premiership which is why I think we need a van Gaal type coach. Been there seen it done it built academy teams good eye for young European talent.

If Lerner wants to move Villa on this is the sort of coach he needs to give a 3-5 year plan to

Well we all knew Young and Downing were leaving so I'm not sure why anybody taking the job would be suprised by that?

If its McClaren then I am going on a killing spree

  16. What about van Gaal with AZ Alkmaar??? He went there won the league and got them in the champions league. I had never bloody heard of them before he went there !

    Excellent point well made.

I am with you that he could be just what we need. We seem to be going towards using our academy and I think he could achieve success with a good core of academy players like he has done in Holland. Which is more than can be said for thingamebob (MON)

In my opinion there is nobody better in the world football when it comes to academies.

The dutch are renowned for it, van Gaal is a proven master :thumb:

    :notworthy:

    Also Sparta Rotterdam relegated

    Galatasary 8th and sacked

Plus he also failed to win anything for two years with the Barcelona team Guardiola now has. Is he that good?????

  20. Do some of us seriously want O'Neill back?

    Get over it!

Van Gaal has done well with an academy based team in Ajax, in the past. Wouldn't mind him.

Benitez has got a good CV, although I'm not keen on him personally I do think he could be a good appointment as he has a lot to prove.

Moyes is good but I can't see it happening.

Coyle did well with Burnley and Bolton considering the status of each club, could be good for us.

I'm edging toward the fat spanish waiter and I suppose I will accept him becaused he would be our fat spanish waiter.

If O'Neill comes back I'll eat my hat.

PS Ignore the bookies they're not interested who takes over as long as they make a quick buck and they make that buck by choosing a new favourite the longer the charade goes on. Has Randy got shares in Coral???????

What about van Gaal with AZ Alkmaar??? He went there won the league and got them in the champions league. I had never bloody heard of them before he went there !

  22. owen coyle has dropped to 5/2 on skybet. The PE teacher thing might be BS but someone has definatley been putting money on him.

If thats the height of our ambition then we are shagged

I think he'd be a good long-term appointment...like when Everton got Moyes (only difference is Owen Coyle got a small northern team promoted to the Prem and Moyes didn't!!)

I dont like him, sorry but I think he is a step in the wrong direction.

A club of our size should be aiming higher and have better ambition than appointing somebody who has been a manager for about 5 mins and who hasnt achieved much.

Yes he got Burnley promoted but there are plenty of managers who have got promotion from the championship.

If promotion from the championship is the benchmark then lets get Neil Warnock in!!!!!!
