  1. no midfield protection, no midfield whatsover in fact.

Albrighton was p*ss poor so was Ireland, Petrov dire - only Delph has put in any effort.

    Delph has been awful!

  2. It's not so much that we're playing against Chelsea and I think we should try and avoid using the lame 'weather condition' excuses. That was disgraceful. Every single one of them. Never seen such utter shit like that for a while, that's for sure...

I have to second that, that was shocking clueless football. I cant even see what they are trying to do????

After watching the Blackburn game and this 45 mins my only conclusion is that if Bent gets injured we are **** and we have no midfield at all. Petrov aint doing much and I have no idea what Delph is doing and I dont think he does either.

We need to find some money for Scott Parker and/or Joey Barton IMO

  3. Im not sure if they are all good enough if I am honest
I don't doubt you're right. That's not the point though. We don't need them all to be good enough. Just the ones we intend to use in the first team. Most of who you mention will either be farmed out this season or won't get past the reserves - and if they do (Lichaj, Weimann) it will likely be because of catastrophic injuries that we couldn't have catered for with the best will in the world - or they'll get a 10 minute run out here and there. It won't be any great reliance put on them.

The usual candidates that we will use - the Albrightons, Clarks, Delphs - are good enough in my view. I think you might also be slightly under-rating Baker. He has 2 years more developing yet to do than Clark.

I just really worry about our midfield at the moment. Its very very young apart from Petrov (who I dont think is as bad as people say) and Makoun who is still an unknown quantity. We are all hoping Ireland comes good but it is a bit of a gamble. They are the senior players

Then we have Delph, Bannan, Allbrighton and Gardner. I know Eck said only one more signing which is likely to be another a wide man but I would be a lot more comfortable if we got another centre midfiled player also of some proven quality.

Its a shame the Parker rumours dont look true because I think he would be ideal

  4. Those quotes from Whelan are ridiculous. I understand he's trying to get a better deal.. but he's just spouting and spouting and making himself look silly, imo.

Telling the world that Sunderland and Newcastle HAVEN'T made offers. We have, but they didn't like it. We haven't come back with an improved offer YET (we might, still) and he's making out like we've committed a crime.

If we had more options, I'd love us to wait until next year and try to get him on a free (I know other clubs could be interested, but we're still a good option for him).

As a few others have said. Just whack £500k on top and see if Whelan accepts that.

I'm of the thinking that the fact Dave Whelan is acting like a gobshite, and giving interviews out to anyone who'll listen, that we should walk away now. Call his bluff, and move on to the next target.

    I dont like Dave Whelan

  5. I dont see why we dont get a stadium sponsor like Man City or Arsenal if I'm honest.

I know we wont get a deal anywhere near as much but something has to better than nothing. Alot of German teams do it

Chelsea have been looking for a ground sponsor for over a year and nothing.

Newcastle have been looking for a ground sponsor for 2 years now, and nothing.

Have we even had a look though?

  6. Im not sure if they are all good enough if I am honest

    Lichaj - championship player

Clark - most potential IMO. Think he could be a good player

Bannan - Too lightweight think he may struggle over a season

Allbrighton - Same as Bannan but think he has more potential may struggle aginst physical teams

Gary Gardner - Heard alot of good things but total unknown quantity at this level cant really comment

Fabian Delph - massive season for him. Needs to show his quality now 50/50 on how good he really is

Fonz - Not good enough IMO

Wiemann - Not sure he is ready for the premiership or has the quality. Strikers need to be very special in the mould of Owen, Rooney or Fowler. Not sure if Wiemann is anymore than championship

    Baker - not good enough

    Herd - not good enough

    Hogg - not good enough

Johnson - have not got a clue. anyone seen him to make judgement?

Thats what I think, Clark, Allbrighton, Delph may make an impact. Gary Gardner possibly but will have to see him to make any comment but sounds promising

The rest im not convinced by at all

  7. I dont think N'Zogbia wants to come to Villa Park and if I'm totally honest for £10 -£12m I dont think he is worth it???

Surely there is a better more promising younger winger out their for better value. I dont recall N'Zogbia being all that good at Newcastle.

    When did he phone you?

I really really find it hard to see how you can come to the conclusion that he isn't worth it.

He's the number 1 replacemnet no if's no but's. If even a little bit of you doesn't think he's good enough then you've never took the time to watch him play.

I think he would prefer to go elsewhere. Thats my opinion

He is not the 1 replacement, there are plenty of other options as listed above. I have seen him play numerous times I think he is average

  8. I really really really would not complain too much about attracting players / paying wages , fees etc... if I was you.

New rules satte you can only spend what you bring in.

So, we cannot be bankroled. The only way to do it is earn it. How do you do that ?

Sponsorship (or shirts / ground etc..) we are not Man U, we are not in London - may raise some, but not a lot.

Commercial activities especially abroad - see above

Bonuses - Champions league needed for that - for that you need the players , vicious circle - won't happen short term.

    or......

Do what all the other successful clubs have done

Whomp up tickets to £70 - make the cheapest ST £1000 and sell half the ground to corporate sponsorship !.

Personally, I'll take watching the Villa finishing 8th, rather than not being able to afford to support them finishing 4th thanks very much !

I dont see why we dont get a stadium sponsor like Man City or Arsenal if I'm honest.

  10. I am not currently happy with Lerner and the board.

I dont understand why Hughes was not approached, apparently we were not happy with the way he resigned from Fulham. Then McLeish does exactly the same thing and gets the job???

McLaren was apparently not interviewed because of fan dissatisfaction. Then McLeish gets the job???

There is also the matter of Carew, NRC, Downing, Young , Friedal, and probably Heskey and Cuellar leaving to be replaced by Given who was handed a 5 year contract despite the fact he is a crock after serious shoulder injuries and we are told ther will be one more signing.

Gambling on youngsters and the possibility that Baye, Warnock and Ireland will pull their fingers out their arses is extremley risky in my eyes especially the latter.

McLeish has told players they must relocate to Birmingham, I cant see that going down to well with our bunch of stroppy argumentative players. Squad harmony anyone???

Appointed Peter Grant!!!!!! That needs no comment Im sure you are all aware of how popular he is amongst players he has coached especailly at Blues.

Houllier would have been given the all clear to come back in September. McCallister could have been in charge with GH behind the scenes until then. I thought that worked well at the end of last season so why not let the pair carry on what they were building as I feel GH would have turned the corner and been able to build a squad.

Then there is the crowning turd in the water pipe itself - Alex McLeish

Done nothing, plays a negative brand of boring defensive hoofball and is about as popular as blind one legged midget with no teeth in a bikini would be at Spearmint Rhino

  11. @ Ginko - Didn't Ireland (the player) stop playing for Ireland (the international team) because he didnt get on with some other players??

As for who those 'other players' were exactly i dnno..

i thought he stopped playing international football cos he couldnt be arsed?

he stopped playing international football because he was being bullied by senior players and didnt feel the need to put up with that shit

that sounds like a load of cack if u ask me? Who said this Stephen Ireland himself.

fairly widely known over here that he was held down during a training session and had his hair implants pulled out

Never heard about that if im honest. Learn something new every day :D

  14. Another player badly mistreated by that nasty school teacher Mr Houllier.

Get him back in the team.

    He's a experienced, Premier League proven left-back.

Has also been capped at international level at England and even went to the World Cup which was only 12 months ago.

P.S. Glad to see we have spelt his name correctly for this thread :)

Since when does being dumping a player in the reserves for being absolutely shit amount to being mistreated? Sell him immediately. He was a total and utter liability when he played last season.

It was clearly a personal thing.

Houllier had it in for Warnock.

Gabby didn't score many goals last season.

Do you see him getting dumped into the reserves?

Richard Dunne wasn't exactly on top form last season?

Do you see him getting dumped into the reserves?

If you think that Warnock was dumped into the reserves by Houllier because of his playing ability/form then you really are a fool.

Gabby was still useful and wasn't a liability last season like Warnock, hence why he was never put in the reserves. While I do feel Dunne should have been dropped on occasions, we had a lot of injury problems last season. Admittedly I think Dunne was played too much last season and I'd like to see him go also.

Yes, I do think Warnock was dumped in the reserves partly because of his playing ability but perhaps his alleged comments have something to do with it as well. Doesn't make me a fool though, as neither of us know for sure. However, it does seem rather odd that Houllier would wait a few months before dumping Warnock. Surely if he "had it in for him" as you say Warnock would have been in the reserves within weeks of Houllier's arrival? Funny how Warnock being consigned to the reserves coincided with his extremely poor form which helped to contribute to our poor results.

You do realise that Warnock is our only left-back.

We were playing the likes of Clark, Baker and even Fabian Delph at left-back ahead of Warnock.

Houllier was cutting off his nose to spite his face.

Everyone making out that Warnock is a crap player is going overboard because we can't dare question Mr Houllier.

    Warnock is a good player.

Left back was a real dodgy area for us last season

  15. Tottenham fans are ecstatic hes leaving. Redknobb is annoying but he doesnt let go many good players by choice. Bit concerned by this signing. We need midfield/wingers more urgently.

seems a bit of a waste when we have Beye, Cuellar,Young and Lichaj who can play in that position :?

  16. Whatever the beef was between Houlllier and Warnock is neither here nor there now.

Facts are one has been rightly **** off and the other remains here. If Warnock can get back to the form he showed over a number of seasons for Blackburn, the form he showed here during his first 6 or so months, form that got him into the England World Cup squad, then I’m sure we’ll all be happy.

Lets all hope that Eck can get the best out of him and back in form.

I happen to think he is a quality full back when he is on his game
