You joke but Barcelona famously built downwards to expand the Nou camp because they weren’t allowed to build the stadium any higher

It's how City converted the Commonwealth Games stadium from athletics too but it was easier when the stands are so far back whereas we have no room.  The Nou Camp didn't have a running track but still had stands far enough back to add about half a tier's worth of seats, having extended upwards about a decade earlier.  We just need to build the North Stand, use all that land behind it wisely and get the longer platforms the council have promised.  The longer they take the more expensive it will get.

Been discussed before, and there are now obviously financial issues and other problems at the Alexander (although I don't know exactly what) but regardless, I'd hate to see Birmingham's premier athletics stadium and the home of Birchfield Harriers ruined by a football club. And equally, as west ham have proven, trying to make a football stadium that also needs to host athletics events doesn't really work very well.

It's a huge 'no' from me.

I wondered a while ago whether they could build an athletics stadium at Villa Park and build a purpose-built 60k stadium at Alexander Stadium.  Apparently there would still be issues with transport links though.

As far as I recall the North Stand development is officially "paused" isn't it?

They haven't ruled it out, just said it's not happening as soon as the expected.

I imagine that is very much still the plan. Just not right now

I think that's what Heck said but in reality we have a small window in which we can get it ready for 2028.  I assume he will have moved on by then and somebody else's problem.

Yep, and there's absolutely nothing stopping them doing a complete u-turn and building a new stadium.

But like I said before, a categorical ruling out of a new stadium is far more evidence for us not building a new stadium than any evidence for the contrary

At the moment they seem to have ruled out the North Stand development and a new ground, that must mean leaving the ground pretty much as it is, which they can't surely?  Something doesn't add up to me.  Hopefully things will become clearer in the summer.

  5. I was getting my stuff out of the locker in the gym, a bloke saw me in my Villa shirt and started talking football, he's a Palace fan etc etc, then halfway through the conversation he pulls his pants down.  I mean I get that he's got to get changed but does he have to pick thay particular moment to do that?  I hate it when people are walking round with their cocks out in the changing room.

  6. I'm still hoping we are just delaying the new North Stand by a year.  Hopefully get a full year of Champions League ticket revenue plus TV on top, then get the development done in time for Euro 28.  With the Warehouse development and longer platforms at Witton station it should ease congestion to cope with 50,000+.  From what I remember they were improving the route to the station so most people wouldn't need to see how run down the local area is.

That's still the most logical plan in my eyes, they can't seriously just be keeping the North Stand as it is.

In theory, with modern technology and construction methods they could probably create an even better version of VP.

Four modern and upgraded " Holte Ends " for example.

Aside from this, I've said in the past that we may even get a redevelopment proposal, even more impressive than the previous one, with the heavy hitters we now have on board.

However it's the folks with more knowledge than me who make it seem like VP is very limited in what can actually be done which have me second guessing.

Makes it seem like even building a new VP on the current site would basically be impossible.

The thing with redeveloping the current ground is that if we don't start in the next year or two then we can't start until after Euro 2028, unless we give up the rights to hold matches.  It wouldn't surprise me if Heck doesn’t really care about the Euros if we don't really make that much money out of it.  Either way it's going to be a lot more seasons with the North Stand as it is, maybe even another decade at this rate, which is pretty unsatisfactory.  That's the main reason why I reckon there's a possibility that they're looking at relocating somewhere else, in fact they'd be a bit mad not to look into it.

  8. I don't actually think signing Jack back is that fanciful an idea.  I'm sure Emery would love to have a player of his quality in the squad.  Jack's release clause said it could only be activated if we weren't in the Champions League from what I remember, which indicates he had that ambition to play for us in the CL.  I can't see him going to Saudi unless he genuinely has no clue of what it's like out there (which is possible!).  It would only be on loan, maybe with a chance to buy, so financially it might be workable.

  9. This will go quickly off topic but using the St George's Cross in different colours on the shirt has been done about 10 times before, they probably just didn't realise how sensitive the flag-shaggers are these days.  I bet if they'd consulted the players they would barely have even noticed the detail anyway.

    Their pizza is good though!

On a serious note though we all know the area is not a Villa area. It’s not like Anfield where everyone near by is likely a Liverpool fan.  Majority in Witton and Aston support Liverpool and Man U or just have more pressing issues than football. Villa fans are just coming in and out the area to go to the ground.

It’s time to find a new home.

It makes you wonder though if most people round there 'support' the likes of United or Liverpool whether it might be able to win them back if we continue to catch up and be successful, or at least the next generation of kids.  It sounds like we have given up on trying to win over the local community.

@sharkyvilla  You requested the below in this year's kit thread, thought I'd move it here as it technically would be for next season's kit.

Found a new Adidas template and quickly knocked something up.

Cheers mate, didnt realise I put it in the wrong thread.  Looks good

  12. If he wasn't doing his job properly then there is no way Unai would keep him on when he cleared out the rest of the backroom team.  I suspect defending set pieces is down to other coaches.

He's in the Poland squad. They could well be playing Wales so won't be too much travelling compared to Bailey and others (Italy are playing in US and Zaniolo remains in their squad).

Bailey isn't in the Jamaica squad, which is good for us, mental for them.

karen carney, she is a bluenose, has no business doing commentary on our games, be like getting Gabby doing it on Blues games....

I'm pretty sure it wasn't her.  I've never really had any problem with her when she has covered our games.
