His commitment to playing around at the back,  even when we are under pressure we keep doing it, sometimes it bites us but he persist. He knows that if we can get the players to do it well, under pressure , then we have a winning formula.

It would be easy to abandon it in certain games but he persists, he teaching the players to be better and he's also educating the fans, it's unbelievable tbh.

It's got to the point where I scream at the telly if we abandon it and just start playing it long, especially Emi.

Until watching that I never realised that MOTD commentator is the guy who sometimes presents on the American PL coverage on my dodgy streams.

  4. The more I think about it, the more I think that people may be right in that we will try to buy the houses behind the DE stand and build a new stand behind it, before doing the North Stand.  Assuming we will still host games at Euro 28 it gives us 4 years to buy up the properties, get a design together with planning permission and start building after the tournament.  I think we can just ask for an extension of the North Stand planning permission and build it after.  Hopefully we just offer the residents life-changing money and a new home rather than getting a CPO.

He said 1000, closer to 1500. So I'm inferring that means 1300.

Still a lot of seats to magic up, but a big chunk will come from converting current boxes. And I imagine there will be some reprofiling done also that adds in an extra row or two. Then, maybe, converting some standard seats to premium on top, but you'd hope this isn't seats dedicated to ST holders already.

Surely they should know the exact figure if they're doing it in a few months' time?

I am still clinging to the hope / belief that a certain regular poster on this site who has reclused himself from certain discussions is in some capacity connected with matters around next season's shirts.  This has made it very easy for me to ignore all the ****, fake links that are getting posted, confident in the belief that we're going to have an absolute belter of a kit choice this season.

That's my thinking too.  Reading between the lines he seemed to confirm the yellow lion with the drop shadow is supposed to represent the detailed golden lion that will be on the actual shirt, which is much better.

Resting in possession is absolutely a thing under Unai. I guess you could use it to ding him, since Villa isn't going to give you an amazing performance every time out. The pluses are numerous though. Can beat teams at a trot, most PL wins in Villa history, most goals scored......

Sitting here thinking resting in possession is an obvious tactical response to the high pressing craze sweeping football. Unai has been doing this for years which that just shows his level of tactical genius.

Even now when we lose you get fans on here questioning the desire for not working hard enough, seemingly not running through brick walls etc, when in reality we have done the same thing as usual for a reason, to not waste energy needlessly.  We optimise the work we do and it's shown by how many goals we've scored and points won/rescued right at the end of the game even when we haven't played well.

What's the current shirt fit like vs Kappa for us porky bastards? Given this will be our last season with a decent badge for the foreseeable, I'm considering plumping for the home and away. I was an XXL in Kappa but as they always run stupidly tight, hoping I can go down to an XL and it still be a nice loose fit.

It's definitely a lot roomier than the Kappa kit, I'd say you could size down fairly comfortably.

Why does the amount of Villa coverage gets bother people so much.

Like what does it do if the press/media are talking about us?

I really cba to care about what Clinton Morrison thinks of Villa.

Exactly.  I'd rather us keep going under the radar than getting included in the dogshite like Saturday Social on Sky.

I think the Betano and Adidas deals quoted are the top line figures IF we do qualify for the Champions League.  No doubt they would be lower if we are not in the CL.

It's weird because for a few matches in certain countries we won't be able to have Betano on the shirt.  I guess there is still enough value for them to pay £20m a year.

Has he definitely or just brushed them aside? Until he says I’m not leaving I’d still be nervous.

Unai can build an empire here in whatever way he wants.  I don't see many jobs out there where he can do it in such a way.  He's been chewed up and spat out by Arsenal and PSG, Bayern have done the same to quite a few managers since Pep.  I wouldn't be worried at all.

  12. For a 21 year old to score the way he did yesterday, take the extra touch inside to make the finish so much easier is a very good sign for someone that young.  I think it took Ollie a long time to get that into his game, some players are more natural when it comes to that kind of composure.  Rogers is going to be a very, very good player.

Good thread on VAR and offside

Offside is going to be sorted out by the automated system.  It should have been used this season after how successful it was at the World Cup.  Yesterday's looked offside to my eye test from the first replays they showed but that graphic is pretty unsatisfactory.  Nonetheless it shouldn't be a talking point any more once the season is over.

I'd also like the handball rule simplified with the use of technology if possible.  Make the rule based on reaction times, if a player gets hit by the ball on the arm within half a second (or whatever time they decide is fair) then it's not hand ball as they couldn't be expected to get their arm out of the way in time.  Anything beyond that is handball.  Then it's standardised across the whole of football.  Screw the subjective 'natural position' bollocks.

Pretty sure there’s only a finite number of squad places for marquee European players on those Saudi squads. After the flurry of last summer there’s unlikely to be the same demand again this summer.

Some of the players have clearly not enjoyed it over there, despite the money.  Word will get around to other players and I'd be surprised if many take the Saudi option from now on.  I think we would be mad to look past Digne and Moreno next season, they've both got another year at least of their prime and we can give Sousa another loan in the meantime.

  15. It was pretty standard Cash today, one reckless moment, a lot of backwards passing, lots of running and a half-decent effort on goal.  He allowed Konsa to put in a faultless display at centre half which was the main thing.

Not sure why we never bothered with the final attack.

Looks like a couple of players were angry about it as well

We scored inside the 5 minutes added time, the ref should probably have added an extra 30 seconds/minute.
