What if they took us over, rebranded the whole works, erased our history, then a bunch of other billionaires take over at Swansea, Everton, Southampton and Fulham and we're still facing mediocrity?

    No thanks.

As above, I could take the away kit and possibly a stadium name change, but any further and I'd rather support an average team doing it the right way.

A lot of 'what ifs' in there.

You can never erase the history of the club, as that is there for the record books.  In that history however, the club has change its kit many many times, before settling on claret and blue.

If Red Bull came in to buy the club, changed the name of the ground, sponsored the shirts, gave us the Red Bull 'uniform' for the away kit I'd be okay with it.  Living in the UAE, I can tell you that the Man City profile over here is massive, yet they're still Man City. They are sponsored by Etihad and play at the Etihad, but they're still Man City. Etihad even means "United", but no one gives a shit, lol.

Aston Villa FC playing at the Red Bull Villa Park, owned and sponsored by Red Bull, competing for champions league football would be progressive evolution of the club for me.

I count one 'what if' ;)

The kit has been claret and blue since 1887!

And then you agreed that a few changes would be acceptable but nothing major, in exchange for Champions League, which is arguably a fair deal.

But that's already happened to some degree, hasn't it? The only matter is how many millions/billions the owners have.

Yes it's happened to some degree in terms of millionaires buying clubs but we haven't sold our soul for it that's the point.

I'm saying they could virtually erase the Aston Villa we know and we still might not even be successful.

  3. Yeh this annoyed me earlier.

Hodgson is a complete fool. If Townsend has popped up from relative obscurity this season (okay he was apparently good for QPR too) to being probably in the starting 11 at the World Cup, how can he basically say no new players are going to get a look in, when it's over 6 months away and we've got another friendly in March.

  5. Haha, I just meant that even though I personally think he's a clogger from what I've seen, I'm not going to say he's a bad signing or he's never going to cut it.

You have to give him a chance.

Yep well put, I'd pretty much agree with that too.

Unfortunately there's a tendency to hoof to a tall player even if they are better with their feet and we have arguably 3 such strikers.

Thought he'd looked better paired with Benteke though and a proper goal will help his confidence.

  6. i would go for a 5-3-1-1 formation, and immediately drop Westwood, Gabby and Weimann.

    Guzan

    Lowton Clark Vlaar Baker Luna

    Bacuna Sylla El Ahmadi

    Delph

    Benteke

Just what i'd like to see i think Lowton can come back in now, have Bacuna further up the pitch. Sylla adds to our team and i think him and Delph work well, i think we need to force Delph further up with a different formation, Benteke can play loan man and El Ahmadi because i couldnt think of an 11th player

    Alex?

  7. Blackpool want Ireland and Hutton? For a small fraction of their wages mind. And it's probably rubbish.

They already have Delf on loan and wasn't there another rumour about Bannan going there?

That's the whole bloody bomb squad shifted in one! And we'll get a good price for Tom Ince in return right?

Edit: That was Bannan to Holloway's Palace, got me thinking it was Blackpool.

  8. This was worth a laugh this morning

    From BBC gossip:

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert believes striker Christian Benteke, 22, will remain at Villa Park despite strong interest from Liverpool.

    Full story: Daily Star (external)

In fairness to the rag, the article doesn't seem to mention anything like the BBC tagline.

I also saw someone from the fans forum the other night said Lambert said no 'marquee signings' would be made as it was unrealistic at this point. I wonder if this would class as a marquee signing to Lambert's way of thinking? and i wonder if Bent, Hutton and Given were moved on whether this would make a marquee signing any more realistic?

I don't think you'd call this a marquee signing though, despite the size of the transfer fee that it would take. He's not exactly a household name is he? I'd certainly never heard of him before we'd been linked.
