He’s much better than Joelinton who is also Brazilian and similar age to Wes. I agree he gets way too much stick on here for a young striker new to the country.

the stick he receives reminds me very much of how people was with Savo back in 1995. And Savo ended up having a good career.

Good point about Savo. It was the same for big Crouchy

  2. I thought he did pretty well. He worked hard. Linked the play well. The goal would have done him good but sadly not to be. I think he gets way too much stick on here. For a young guy he is doing well.

When he signed people said he needed time and he is very raw, club not getting an experienced back up is more an issue than Wesley.

Feel he is taking bit too much of the heat

Totally agree. Give the lad a break and actually try getting behind him. He has shown enough to make me think he can be a success. It will be easier if we back him rather than slaying him every week.

  4. The team felt better balanced today. I would stick with the formation next week but maybe switch Trezeguet/AEG and Connor/Douglas. Both of those are splitting hairs really but I just feel that it would provide better balance. I also think we will win our next two games.............but wtf do I know!

So we’re laying in to Mings now? The guys been a nothing but a colossus for us since joining and leads the league for blocks, but when he makes his first couple of errors in a Villa shirt these past couple of games suddenly he and the 7 million pound Belgian masterstroke we’ve been praising all season aren’t premier league class?

    I love this forum.

Totally agree. He was in the last England squad ffs!

  6. He is clearly not doing great at the moment but he is a fast learner. He, like the players, is on an upward learning curve. He needs to learn fast or it will already be too late but we really need to avoid throwing the baby out with the bathwater! Fulham should have stuck by their man last season, they didn’t and it was curtains.

Every game seems hard to take at the moment but we really are not getting the points that we deserve. That can change very quickly. Huge couple of games coming up but 6 points is achievable. That would certainly be a good start.

We haven't looked powerful or athletic enough in midfield. Clear gulf in that in the Spurs and Palace games. Norwich for instance look a lot fitter and stronger as well.

I totally agree with this. I have been amazed by how much this has changed during our time away. All the teams look bigger, faster and stronger than is in the centre of the pitch. We are going to have to be much better at keeping possession to compete.

For me we lack the vital ingredients to be effective in attack at the moment. So yes we will need someone in Jan.

The things we clearly lack are pace, a top finisher & an aerial threat. We have none of those vital strengths and another issue is our best dead ball player Hourihane and regular scorer of good goals is not playing either. Result is we simply are not posing much of a goal threat.

We lack true pace on the counter, pose little threat from set pieces either aerially or with a dead ball strike now Hourihane is not playing and the few chances we do create are often fluffed by not having a natural goal scorer in the team.

Wesley (Still new i know but never actually been overly prolific even in lesser leagues)

Davis (Another Heskey regards goal tally)

Trez (usually misses good chances and did so at his last club too according to their fans)

Elghazi (does score on occasion but also goes missing very often & is nowhere near "prolific")

Kodija (Made of glass and is totally unproven at this level)

I'm sure they might all score a few but i can only see Wesley getting 8 - 10 (which is his current 1 in 4 ratio) Davis 4 or 5 , Trez 3 or 4 & Elghazi 6 or 7.  Yes there is Kodija but he is never fit and if he plays we would just be swapping his goals with the player he replaces so not much changes.

That's a total of say 21 to 26 goals which would have seen us relegated in each of the last 3 seasons where really 40 goals or just under was around the number needed for survival.  So we really do need midfield to chip in considerably to stay up in my eyes but are they really going to contribute between 14 to 19 goals?

So yes for me we do need to buy in Jan although who's to say that player will settle quickly?

It hopefully will come good but i'm not convinced by our attacking players at this time.

Keeper, defence and midfield i'm ok with however.

We are averaging a goal/game and easily could have scored more (and actually did but for the actions of an idiot ref). I do agree with a lot of your post and this season may be a struggle but it is too early to say in my view. Funnily enough, unlike a lot of posters, I actually think our midfield is a problem. We have good players but lack variety. We need a bigger more physical presence in there to compliment our ball players.

  9. Why are people moaning so much about our performance yesterday?

Deano summed it up really well in my opinion. Good start, followed by a ridiculous period before half time when the ref starting dishing out cards, followed by a decent start to the second half, followed by a red card. From that point, away from home against a decent side, it was always going to be difficult. We stuck in and but for a criminal decision would have taken a point.

We are finding our feet and in my opinion should have more than the three points on the board. Refs and bad luck have cost us badly so far but that cannot continue. Maybe, following the high profile nature of Friend’s massive mess up, the refs will be a bit more reluctant to give us poor decisions. We need to stick together and get behind the team.

  10. The more I see this guy play and talk and also research his life story the more impressive he becomes. Before anybody accuses this guy of being lazy ever again they should look at what he has achieved, the lengths he has been prepared to go in order to achieve it and the many obstacles that have littered his way.

Lazy people do not have life stories like his at any age let alone 22. It is those labelling him as lazy that are in fact the lazy ones. You have gotta love a bit of irony!
