Name: Ashley Young Nationality: English DOB: 09/07/1985 Height: 5' 9" Weight: 10st 3lbs Position: Winger (Right)/ Striker International Honours: U21 Why? So what will Ashley Young bring to Villa? Ashley Young is a product of Watford's youth system, most famous for producing John Barnes... Since then Ashley seems to be the most promising star that has burst onto the scene from the North London club. Young burst onto the scene with a goal scoring debut in September 2003 and since then has gone from strength to strength aiding Watford at first to avoid relegation to League one, then in the second instance helping the team in a successful promotion push, with a healthy goals tally of 14. Among the accolades Ashley holds: 2004/2005 Championship Young Player of the year award, along with a place in the PFA Championship team of the year the following season. He is seen to be a set piece specialist, something Villa are particuarly lacking, and to quote Martin O'Neill he has "a wee bit of pace". An attribute which certainly helps in the current climate of premiership football. So far this season he has shown himself to be a Rose among thorns in the Watford team scoring four goals, making him the team's top scorer. Welcome to Villa, Ashley, good luck in justifying the fee.
