This is probably one for the Piss You Off thread - 'Next Time' spoilers.

It used to be that serial dramas would simply end each episode on something of a 'cliffhanger' - which was enough to make you look forward to the next episode. Some of the more jokey/kids' shows would emphasise things with stuff like "Is this the end for the Caped Crusader? Don't miss next week's exciting episode!", etc.

But nowadays we get the cursed "Next time on..." trailer. I usually try to hit the remote before it gets going, but don't always get there in time.

Last night we watched the first Episode of 'Wolf' on BBC1. OK, no BAFTA winner, but an entertaining enough bit of campy horror hokum. And then came "Next time...". Several minutes of it, packed with spoilers. Basically, it's killed my interest in the series, and made me much less likely to stay with it.

I finished Wolf tonight, and went back and rewatched that teaser at the end of the first episode.

I think it did a pretty good job of leading you to think it was going in a certain direction, but it doesn't.

There's a much bigger spoiler which isn't anything to do with the teaser though, but, err...

Not going to last terribly long in the memory or win any awards, but I thought it was ok for a bbc six parter. So many twists and turns and it ran along at a break neck pace, and provided plenty of entertainment as a result.

Off topic, so apologies, but should I read The Wind Through the Keyhole after Wizard and Glass? I know that's where it fits chronologically but wasn't released until a few years ago

Yep, it slots in exactly in the chronology at that point. It was a little treat for fans, going back to that world and those character after the story was wrapped up. It's not essential reading by any means, though.

I think there's a lot of it that just won't work as a movie. So much stuff happens in their heads, and I don't know how you would replicate the drawing of the three onto the screen. So much of the dialogue is "thought" and wouldn't work if spoken.

Books are excellent. I've nearly finished the 3rd. I found the first very tough going to be honest, but the 2nd and 3rd have been really great.

Maybe some of the movie is taken from the later novels, but I felt like if they changed the names of the characters then I'd have struggled to realise it was based on the books. Idris Elba was pretty good to be fair, but that was about it

I didn't hate McConaughey as the Man in Black.

It does take a lot from one of the later novels in particular, which was one of the main issues for fans I think, why that part? Didn't make an awful lot of sense when there's so much story there.

Books 2-4 are the peak for me, with Wizard & Glass probably being the best thing King has ever written. It's also the really obvious starting point for a movie or TV series.

There are other issues with the latter part of the series too, specifically a major character from another King book whose back story isn't explored in the Dark Tower, literally because it's a whole other book. How do you account for that on the screen? And he isn't even the only character like that!

A TV series starting with a very brief portion more or less covering the first book, jumping to the 4th, and the just run with the Ka-tet. The marvel comic series did it similarly to this and it really worked.

Enjoy the ride though! There are some wild moments.

  4. A relatively famous one, but I did think Papa's lived up to the hype. I've been to the one on the pier in Cleethorpes a few times, and it's been great on every occasion.

Really good gluten free options too.

Curiosity got the better of me as I’ve been reading the books, so I tried “The Dark Tower” tonight.

What a mess. It’s like they gave the title and character names to a writer and asked him to guess what the story was

    Terrible

Dreadful ain't it. I'm still hopeful for a series on Amazon, but we'll see. There are sections (pretty large sections, actually) of the final novels where I think it would be really difficult to suspend your disbelief if it were replicated one to one on the screen, so to make it work the screenplay would have to be drastically different to the original. But hey, it worked for LOTR so it's not impossible...just massively improbable...

How are you finding the books, and how far in are you?

  6. I'm sure there will be a bit more of a build now, although I have heard talk that Ospreay may face Jericho, which I wouldn't personally be a fan of.

On the topic of All In, and at the risk of sounded like a complete idiot...I cannot find any record of a ticket in my emails. I can log in to the Wembley site and see confirmation of my booking, but I don't have an actual e-ticket. Is that just me?

Also of interest to some may be the current season of Dark Side of the Ring. The Chris Candido, Abdullah the Butcher, Junkyard Dog and Bam Bam Bigelow episodes were all decent, and this week it's Bash at the Beach 2000.

Not too clued up about it but seems like an idiotic decision.

Might appear that way, but it isn't. She was the starting left back for England in the Euro's final, for example.

  8. With regards to the upper holte being locked out, it is indeed Terrace View related. No idea what happens when they reach general sale, the upper holte still isn't sold out, maybe they'll be available then?

Makes a bit of a mockery of the membership, and I can't imagine enough terrace view packages would have been sold (plus existing season ticket holders) to sell out the upper holte every league match?

  9. Reddit is the source of this one - guy's cousin in the same hotel as the squad has seen Sanson leave and say his goodbye's. Same guy then posted pics of his cousin with the squad at the hotel.

  10. I'd go along with it being a 7/10 game, and that's absolutely fine for me at the moment.

I don't even hate the requirement to fill up your bike with petrol relatively frequently, at least it adds and element of authenticity to the world.

The hordes are a great challenge too, at least at the stage I'm at, you really don't want to mess with them...unless you kinda cheese it, which is what I did with a horde in a cave, lure a few out a bit at a time, off them, repeat until they're all gone.

My exposure to football in the US has been extremely blessed limited over the years, and will continue to be so, I imagine.

My disconnect is such that when seeing the news of Messi scoring this goal my immediate thought was, I wonder what the commentator said.

I realise now he said 'MESSI...could it have been...any other way', but imagine my excitement when I thought he said 'MESSI...put in the bin' as the net rippled.

    Missed opportunity, I feel.

  12. I had an absurd game over on FF7 (no, I don't want to talk about it) which stopped my sequential playthrough of the series in it's tracks.

So, fancying a change of pace, I had a look what I had installed on my PS5 which I hadn't finished, and decided to go back to Days Gone, which I'd played maybe 90 minutes of?

It's decent. Certainly the kind of change I needed.

Does being an anthology keep Black Mirror from being spoken about as a top tier show?

    Its consistently brilliant

Has it's own thread on VT doesn't it? Therefore it must be considered one of the elite TV shows.

As it happens we've just started watching them all from the beginning, as I'd only watched a couple of them, plus the interactive one, since they went to Netflix.

There are a few stinkers, but generally they're at least worth watching, with some of them being great.

We watched the Miley Cyrus one last night which I found to be the funniest so far, and a blast from start to finish.

My favourite has been San Junipero.

  14. Geowizard adjacent - guy attempts to follow a river from source to sea without leaving it. He's an adventurer type with a number of videos, with somewhat superior production to Geowizards videos.

I've just started Persona 4 Golden as with points I got it for £6 on the Switch store. I probably should have played this before P5, as visually it's several levels below, and looks a bit shit in comparison. Also you weren't wrong aboutit  taking ages to get going, blimey! Thinking of putting it to one side and having another play through of 5, which was superb.

The really funny thing with P4G is they actually went to some lengths to try and improve the start of the game and make it feel more interactive and quicker when compared to the original opening in P4 :D
