Superb performance today. Everything you’d want after Thursday night, Bournemouth are a good side and we dealt with them with relative ease. No drama after conceding first. Watkins was immense.

Couldn’t see from the stands but what happened before the penalty? He went down in the centre circle like he’d eaten a left hook from Anthony Joshua. Konsa was going mad at him after. Im guessing he was being a fanny?

This would be given against us
Looks similar to the one we got away with in literally the last game we played against Lille. -

I kinda feel like Jackson could be a good player with the right coaching. Has a lot of decent attributes, just needs someone to put it together for him.
He was a good player at his previous clubSpoilerUnder Unai Emery.

Very true - it was a gut reaction. Just seems we are doing it much more than usual and are even more ponderous. There needs to be occasions where we try and pass ourselves up the pitch! Lille are doing very well in stopping our play.
It nearly worked just now, they got out and then the ball went into Watkins, back to Rogers and his pass nearly set Diaby away. If it does work then Diaby is clear on goal but it does seem pretty low percentage. -

What an absolute anti climax. **** shit. Really poor to a player. Why are we constantly **** about at the back?! We have shown absolutely no attacking intent.
We are trying to get in behind their press. It’s been a hallmark of the team since Unai took over as manager. As the half progressed it became more obvious what their triggers have been (a lot of it has been one man running at whoever has the ball for us then two running at whoever passes to while a fourth guy stays spare) and I guess the theory is that if we do get in then we’ve taken half their outfield out of the game. It’s not working brilliantly, we’ve been pushed right back so there’s still a lot to do even if the passing is accurate. -

Wasn't the ball in play when Emi was booked?
It was in play pretty much every time he was “wasting time” as far as I could tell. Ref is having a bad day at the office.- 1

That’s been coming. We aren’t at the races tonight.

I hope Martinez flashes the tattoo of the ball print from the World Cup final.

The Croatian referee does not plan any tourism around La Ramblas nor Sagrada Familia tomorrow, then.
He was a smart cookie and did all that stuff yesterday.- 1

If it’s as good as the one on FourFourTwo then I’d be amazed.
It breaks down every to what Arsenal were (probably) thinking ahead of kick off, how it nearly worked at what Villa did to deal with it.

Where did John McGinn go?
Might have been one of the players who got called for a random drugs test. He got called for one on Thursday too but as that was a UEFA competition I don’t think it has any bearing on whether he’d get chosen for a Premier League one. Or he could have gone to do post game media. Or needed a poo. Basically it could have been anything so I don’t even know why I’m trying this response.- 1

How are we still playing European games and 1 game ahead of everyone else? Have they just had prolonged rest periods?
A mixture of other sides being in Europe too and domestic cups. If you go deep in the EFL Cup or FA Cup or are due to play a side who have gone deep in those competitions (Spurs game in hand on us is against Chelsea who they should have played on EFL Cup final weekend) then finding a gap in the calendar to play it can be tricky. -

For 30 minutes??? Or 30 seconds?
From kick off until that Lille player went down with a nosebleed (or whatever it was) in our area. So 30 minutes. -

PSG are being crap again. They are lucky it’s only 1-0.

Arsenal
Arsenal? The third most decorated club in the country? -

Aye. Plenty of Villa fans were doing the whole "table since Unai took the job" thing last season, and while it's slightly different I think you can see the point being made.
However I think Bournemouth are still streaky. They did get more than half their points for the entire season in that ridiculous run they had from Halloween to Christmas where they temporarily turned into Real Madrid. Only Manchester City and ourselves took points off of them.

Deserved to get beat but I think it’s one of those defeats we will take a fair few positives from. On another day the plan could have worked, fringe players did well and ultimately we were undone by a couple of clinical finishes.

Oh well. TBF Foden has been great tonight.

I think Dougie has to score there.
