  1. So many football tactical geniuses on here.

Formations are not rigid and haven't been for a long time. Games are so dynamic and players are so athletic that 5 at the back is 4 at the back with a spare midfielder. Lambert and O'Neill and many other managers have said this. It's the best 11 players and the 'system' is secondary.

Newcastle spent a lot on players in January and we haven't. They already had a much better team than us. It's as simple as that.

In that logic, Barca would win all the time anyway no matter how they set up...?

I doubt they'd get very far if they set up 5-3-1.

  2. We looked far better in the 2nd half going 4-4-2 with Baker at LB and Gabby and Weemann on the wings... Bannan needs to **** off though. Why does he persist with this 3-5-2 which hasn't worked since we played Liverpool and got lucky only conceding 1?!

  3. Surely even the dumbest halfwit defender of Lambert cannot still believe he is the right man for the job!

I say sack him now. What **** worse can we do? In the relegation zone, can't beat our nearest rivals Wigan, Southampton and Newcastle at home (the last one registering their first away win of the season against our mugs!). The lowest scorers, the highest conceders, the worst goal difference. How could it possibly get any worse.

Come on defend him, where are you!!!

If only we had McLeish to keep us up, eh?

  4. Would those supporting Lambert rather go down and keep him in charge to rebuild or stay up with say replacing Lambert for Hughes?

I get the impression that some don't mind relegation as long as Lambert keeps his job.

I don't think any manager would do much better with the current squad. Relegation I think is inevitable. Lambert has experience of building competitive squads and knows how to get out of that league. I think if he had more time and more of his type players, he'd do better. Maybe it's better to stick with this rather than appoint someone with 5 days left in the window (which we're not going to spend in anyway) who would possibly do same if not worse, but then have zero experience of the championship...

    Maybe.

  5. ................................Guzan................................

    Lowton............Vlaar.....Dunne.................Warnock

    ...................Westwood......Delph.........................

    Nzog.....................Benteke....................Gabby

    ...............................Bent......................................

Or if Bent **** off / has to sit on the bench, Weimann.

  6. Chelsea 8-0, Wigan 3-0 (AT HOME FFS), Chelsea 7-1 (Carew's pen...), Liverpool 3-0, Man City 4-0 (Two of the poorest Villa Performances I'd seen.. Till this season), Bradford Home and Away, Rapid Vienna (both times, though the 2nd time was far worse).

    It's been a shit 3 years.

  7. The only thing I blame Lambert for is the poor defending. His GF/GA record at Norwich shows that he's never been a defensive type manager, and his teams will let loads in. But they usually score a decent amount and pick up points.

  8. N'Zogbia, Agbonlahor, Weimann and Benteke are our only chance of staying up as things currently stand. Unfortunately you can only really play 3 of them (IMO).

CNZ has looked decent last few matches.

Our Defence is shocking, Clark, Bennett, Bannan, Westwood and Delph are just woeful in a defensive sense.

I honestly can see this lad being key. IF he continues like he has done recently.

    Could we not go:

    Guzan

    Lowton Vlaar Clark LB

    delph westwood

    zog gabby

    Benteke

    Weimann

At this stage, I'd even be tempted to swallow my pride and bring back Warnock.

  9. Lambert tonight when asked about adding new players...

Long pause.... "Listen the chairman has been great with me. It's the wrong time to be asking me that question".

Now what the **** does that mean?!

Means Randy was waiting to see what happened tonight and weighing up his options? Wonder if the RDM rumours are true cause that would explain alot.

  10. I don't think Lerner has had brilliant value for money with the signings we've made. But that's not the reason we are in a mess.

You said in your other post about how we've recovered in the past. We had the opportunity to recover after MON but again Lerner **** things up, cutting costs too quickly and appointing terrible managers.

Look at the mess we're in. Look at how he failed with the browns. Lerner is not the unluckiest owner in sports. To fail with two sports teams in two different sports shows a real level of shitness.

Don't always agree with you Big John but this is spot on. When Milner left, we were 1-2 players short of being a top, top squad. Appointing a manager with a different philosophy to the way our then current squad played and to sell/release any real quality we had a year later is a big portion of this mess.

  11. I didn't think we would go down, as we were playing (quite) well but not picking up the points we deserved. We even managed to pick up a few points when we weren't (QPR, Reading) and coupled with the Liverpool victory I thought things were about to turn round and we'd then push for mid-table.

However we're now completely devoid of confidence at the back and in midfield, and desperately lacking real quality that can see us through a bad game. I believe the next few games are vital (including the Cup Semi Final) a point against WBA and a win in the cup semi final could turn our season around by revitalising the confidence of the squad.

A couple of big signings, showing the clubs support for Lambert would also help massively although I can't see us spending much, if at all.

  12. I honestly didnt think it could get any worse from last season.

In retrospect that was foolish of me.

On the other hand, at the end of that season, we played 16 more games, picking up only 11 more points and could've got relegated with two points less. That could've been the Fulham game were AW got the lucky goal at the last minute.

So, in hope, there's no reason why we wouldn't go the other way and better last season's points tally...

  13. In Lambert's press conference the other day talking about the budget, he was said something along the lines of "we can't spend and wreck the clubs finances" which to me says that the club has weighed up their options, and decided that if we stay in the league only spending 20mil on new players - great, but if we get relegated, it's not the end of the world financially.

Happy to be relegated as long as it doesn't put the club into the red. Not happy to spend an additional 10/20 mil to try and stay up, only for it to fail and put Villa in the red.
