Betfair currently offering 4/1 on a top 10 finish. I’m feeling bullish!

Runners and riders for next Tory leader:
Good line from David Mellor (yeah remember him!) on TV earlier, 'If you've got 17 runners in a race and each of their trainers is saying they have a chance, it means there isn't a good horse amongst them.'

A joke I remember fondly from back in the 80’s, retold today with love given the circumstances...
Cher decided that her labia had grown too large with age and given the skimpy outfits she was prone to wearing decided to have surgery to have them removed. Obviously the hospital was under strict instructions to keep the operation a secret and prevent any leaks to the press, nobody must find out.
So as she comes round from a successful operation she notices three cards on the side of the bed.
’What!’ She exclaims to the nurse, ‘Nobody is supposed to know I’m here!’
’Open them and see’ the nurse says politely.
She opens the the first card, ‘Get well soon, your Surgeon’. ‘Oh that’s nice’ she thinks.
She opens the second card ‘Speedy recovery, all the best, the nurses on your ward. ‘Lovely thought’ she says. ‘But who could this third card be from?’
She opens it up and it reads ‘Thanks for the ears, love Niki Lauda’

When I moved to Spain, there was a legal requirement to register my address with the government.
When I moved Poland, there was a legal requirement to register my address with the government.
When I moved to Finland, there was a legal requirement to register my address with the government AND they made me attend an interview at the immigration office.
This faux outrage about the UK introducing a system that appears to have been standard practice across other EU countries for many years seems somewhat overblown (and slightly ironic).

I wouldn’t be surprised to see an Arya spin off. They literally can go anywhere they want with it.
HBO will turn it into a travel documentary where Arya discovers that west of Westeros is the east coast of Essos and then undertakes a road trip back home.
Meanwhile, Sky have lined up Drogon to replace James Corden as host of A League of Their Own.

Surely a clerk of the House of Commons for over 30 years would know that the party members elect the Leader of the Conservative Party, not the prime minister?

As an aside, this is exactly the reason I gave up playing Rugby. When I went to Uni, I'd played since junior school, school captain and also played club rugby, had county trials etc I was a good player for my age group and position. I went to the first Uni training session, where they sorted out who was in which squad for the season, I was told I made the 2nd team (of 5 I think), which I was quite happy with. Then I went to the "compulsory" after session "session", after half an hour I left. What a bunch of absolute pricks and I was used to the rugby drinking culture at my club. Initiation ceremony my arse, it was just bullying by a bunch of private school rocket polishers. I left and never went back. Never played a game since
Weirdly enough I could also tell this story almost word for word! The only difference being it didn’t put me off playing rugby for good...just in England!

Why did the hamster quit his office job? He wasn't happy with the celery.
But yeah, Feddie Starr, I always found him about as funny as that joke. Remember others in my family thinking he was hilarious though.

The number of wars European Countries have been involved in since WWII
As an aside to this, I think I remember reading once that during that same period Russia has not engaged in any war in a foreign country without a request for assistance from its official government.

I’m sure a little thing like being selected won’t deter Hourihane from getting in a good rest over the 90 minutes ready for the playoffs!

Even the most ardent remainer would admit it's not a perfect organisation by any means. I guess where we would differ is that I believe it's possible to correct those problems and leavers clearly think it's irredeemable. i certainly can understand that point of view even though it seems like giving up to me. I'd rather work with our friends (the ones we have left) and try and put it right.
You’re position is perfectly reasonable and I respect it. You are also right that it is where we differ, as I feel there is no desire to change from the EU. They don’t really think there is a problem. All noises coming from Brussels relate to strengthening the current institutions, not modernising or reforming them. As far as I can see the ‘reform from withiners’ might as well get themselves off to the unicorn party with the ‘renegotiate the dealers’.
Ultimately, it is a system of government I would oppose in London, why would I prop it up just because it is in Brussels.

I'm just curious how people get to the positions that they do...nothing more than that.
The way legislation is made is always subject to debate. It's called parliament (UK and EU). No legislation is just blindly accepted as it has to go through a process. I'm interested why people think our parliamentarians are more capable than those sat in Brussels or Strasbourg. I think if the last 3 years (and more tbh) has taught us anything it's that our parliament can't be trusted with more powers to make legislation.
I think that if in the UK someone proposed a system where only an unelected second house (the Lord’s) had the power to introduce new legislation and MP’s merely rubber stamped it, we would think it was farcical! I mean sure, MP’s could lobby the Lords to introduce things but this happens behind closed doors. What happens when you’re not happy with the legislation that is introduced? Lobby harder behind those closed doors?
