  1. Many will think I'm overreacting, but I honestly believe he needs a loan to the championship, even if only for half a season. He needs to be the best player in a team and being constantly passed the ball. That will teach him how to actually be present throughout the game and how to take responsibility, rather than shying away.

We can't afford to carry him if he's only going to show up for 5 minutes per game.

  2. Regardless of what you think of the penalty, he was bad enough even if you don't take it into account. Dreadful defending.

Ramsey was completely useless though, which also doesn't help.

  3. We look like we might concede every time the opposition have a set oiece. We actually conceded 4 goals in 2 and a half games from set pieces. Luckily two were ruled out.

This bloke is an absolute waste of wages.

Oh FFS didn't even realise it was a suspected bad one.

New Villa signings and huge injury lay-offs within a few months: Amavi & Wesley immediately spring to mind, sure there is more.

Really hope its a false alarm the guy looks the business.

Add Heaton and Kozak to the list

I absolutely don’t blame him for the goal. If he doesn’t kick it in, Iwobi does. Just one of those.

But he nonetheless was shite all game.

But that's the point, have you seen Iwobi's stats? He'd have missed!

I'd have been tempted to try him Mings and Carlos in a 3 so we're not as exposed by width with the wingbacks flying forward, but I wouldn't be opposed to this

This would make more sense if we had aerial threat in the box, to maximise the crosses from our wingbacks. We don't have that type of striker

  7. "He went to Barca, and just sat on the bench,

He came to Villa, 'Cause Gerrard is he friend,

    He's effing useless..."

Ok I'm getting carried away, but if he doesn't get his droppings together that might soon become his chant

  8. As they say, with great power comes great responsibility. The same should apply to footballing ability, and Coutinho just doesn't step up. In fact, if you had to attribute the word "passenger" to any of our players, week in, week out, he would probably get the highest number of nominations.

    Disappointing.

Remind us how Deano has been getting on since he left!

I'm not massively upset he wasn't picked - the reason for that being that Chambers hasn't put a foot wrong since joining us and has been consistently good not just at defending but also on the ball, and in my view he's done enough to earn the shirt ahead of Mings.

To pick Konsa ahead of either of them is what really baffles me.

Our form fell off a cliff when he was out (along with Heaton and Wesley to be fair). He was very important to us. He started 20/21 pretty brightly too before fading into the player we are now used to.

Our form was already poor before his injury, and so were his performances. And sure, he was probably our best midfielder at the time, of course we missed him. That however says a lot more about our squad back then than it does about him

I do agree he was good at the beginning of 20/21

McGinn was class in the championship, and was one of our key players in our first season up. Anyone disputing that is just wrong. Our form dipped when he got injured and improved when he returned. Let’s not rewrite history, he has done a lot for this club.

But he shouldn’t be a nailed on starter anymore. We can all see his limitations, and we have players in the squad who don’t have those limitations, and aren’t starting. It doesn’t make any sense.

See I don't even agree he was key in our first season back in the prem. He started well, got a few goals, but his form started dipping around October, then he got injured, came back for project restart and wasn't fit, being bang average as a result. He was only good for a couple of months.

Then he should just be a impact sub, never a starter, an Gerrard should know this.

Gerrard doesn't want to know that. Not yet. I hope he proves me wrong and makes it work, because hey, who wouldn't want the best version of Coutinho playing for you?

But I don't see it happening, and I think that when (if) he will eventually drop Coutinho it will already be curtains for him, and it will be one of the very last cards he'll play.

I really hope this post makes me look stupid in the future. I'd love that!!!

  13. Another player who is great some of the time, but when he isn't you hardly notice he's actually on the pitch. Coutinho being another one.

McGinn you do notice, but he's just as ineffective for most of the time.

We will never progress if we have to carry a minimum of three players, waiting for them to switch on.

I don't want to be harsh on the lad as he's young and has massive potential, but as any other players he's got to earn his plays and (non) displays like today just don't do that.

Not sure what others think, but I wouldn't be opposed to shifting him on instead of Hause. To me, he's easily the 4th CB now, and I wouldn't be surprised if we were looking around the market next summer. Would it make sense to cash in on him and keep Hause (I know that Hause is limited, but he does something better than the rest of our CBs, heading).

Now, I'm probably talking nonsense but just a thought

If the right offer comes I'd be ok with moving him on, he would still be my second choice at right back should anything happen to Cash, assuming that Guilbert is as good as gone, and not having seen virtually anything of Kayne other than highlight reels.

  15. I would be curious to try a 4-2-3-1 with Luiz and Kamara holding behind Coutinho, Buendia and Bailey. Probably not against top opposition, where a 3 would be more solid, but certainly against bottom table opposition.

He is far from useless … and yes I believe our fan base is becoming even more fickle and self entitled.

We're not fickle, we just don't rate him

  17. Does him starting today suggest that Gerrard sees him as the first candidate to partner Carlos?

I'm unconvinced by him, he's one of a few who seemed to play much better in empty stadiums.

Based on last season he would probably be 4th choice for me, not only due to his drop on performances, but because of how limited he is on the ball.

I am also disappointed but could you name the captains that you are categorising as ‘idiots’ please?

Aside from Jack who was most definitely a moron in an academic sense.

Gabby probably also doesn't top the IQ charts

My faith was low anyway so this hasn’t moved the marker for me.  It’s fairly amusing seeing pro-Gerrard people a bit stumped by this.

I have never been pro Gerrard, I like the calibre of players he attracts, and I would say that is by far his greatest quality, and that's an issue. I'm still on a fence which is starting to tilt more and more towards one side
