Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar has earned himself a place on Roma's transfer wishlist with his heroic World Cup performances for Holland.

The Dutchman enjoyed a stellar tournament in Brazil until he missed a crucial penalty in the shoot-out semi-final defeat to Argentina.

Vlaar picked up a number of defensive records during the tournament including most clearances with 29 and that has caught the attention of the La Liga side.

Roma have already enjoyed a busy summer signing Ashley Cole from Chelsea and former Fulham man Urby Emanuelson and they are now interested in the former Feyenoord man.

The 29-year is entering the final year of his Villa contract and has a market value of around £5m

If I hand In my months notice at the start of August do I just get paid in August? I'm paid in arrears so paid for the month I've just worked rather than the month I'm going to do. Get paid in August for August or for July? Meaning that if I hand my notice in I'll still get paid in August and September?

I was always under the impression that I'd get paid the month after but thinking about it it just dosnt seem right and now I've written it I'm pretty sure it isn't.

Ashley Cole gone to Roma, fair play could have just gone and picked up a wedge at QPR. I Imagine he's still on a fairly decent amount though.

From what I've seen of them Markovic is a great signing and the same with Can. Origi however looks very raw and I don't think he will turn into a top class footballer,granted only 19 but he just dosnt have the look of someone who will be top notch. Reminds me of Welbeck, gangly and unable to control his body but shows glimpses of brilliance and works very hard for the team with his movement and general running off the ball.

I think they will sign Will Highes, my football manager sense is tingling.

Hazard was crap

What does Fellaini do in this team, he looks so lost. Belgium need to get Hazard closer to the goal before they give him the ball if he is going to have an impact. Cant tell if Argentina are defending well or Belgium just playing poorly.

Watching the interview on AVTV, I hope he can make it here, more than I hoped it years ago when we first heard about his promise. He's the type of midfielder that we could do with, tbh, an all-rounder with decent passing, tackling, shooting and set-pieces. I hope he can get, at least, 15-20 appearances this season.
