  1. I gave serious thought to switching off at half time v Everton, and going to bed (and I'm talking 1.00am), but I couldn't... I just couldn't... Villa is in my blood, and as much as it pisses me off, I can't turn my back...

  2. Just hunted down aforementioned autograph book...

Among several I can't make out: Ron Saunders, Jim Smith (Physio), Gary Williams, Allan Evans, Alex Cropley, Nigel Spink, Dennis Mortimer, Jimmy Rimmer, Gary Shelton, Eamon Deacy, Brendan Ormsby, Des Bremner, Kenny swain, Terry Donovan, David Geddis, Gary Shaw, Pat Heard, Terry Bullivant, Peter Withe...

    Just thought I'd share...

  3. Some wonderful stories on here...!

Mine's similar to many, though... Born in Sutton Coldfield, lived in Erdington, Villa in the family for generations and, so not so much a choice as a given.

My earliest memory is my father showing me a photo in the Sports Argus of the League Cup win over Norwich. So I was hooked from then on...

Then, a few years later, a woman he worked with at the old Schrader factory on Tyburn Rd billeted Tony Morley when he first came to Birmingham. My father bought me an autograph book, gave it to her, she gave it to Morley, he took it to the lads, and I ended up with the autographs of pretty much the entire European Cup winning squad, before they won it!!! Plus Sir Ron, coaching staff, physio, the lot!!!

    Keep 'em coming... Great thread...

  4. Going to Villa Park for the first time in 30 years (last year) having moved to Australia when I was 10, with the Missus, and us beating Liverpool on the last day of the season (the same day SHA got relegated, which only added to the atmosphere). Having told her all about the atmosphere, the fans, the stadium, etc, and she had as much of a blast as I did... Nearly brought a tear to my eye...

  5. Was it last week the had the Ron Saunders interview? Seems to have turned into a bit of a grumpy old man!

He went from not wanting to talk about how good a player Tony Morley was, insisting on talking about that '81 - '82 side as a team. But then had no trouble talking up Brian Little as a special player... Just seemed strange...

    And very short with answers...

  6. Been on Eurosport for about a month now...

Great to see what goes on behind the scenes, being so far away...

True about Woodward, but fantastic to see some action from the training ground (they showed the Goalkeeping "team" being put through their paces a while ago), plus End of Season awards night, golf days, Ex-players matches, interviews...

    Great stuff...

  7. Re the comments on CI - The site guidelines clearly ask posters not to post about other posters, but to stick to the topic at hand. The mods are becoming irked at the apparent disregard for the rules. Please desist from posting on poster

    Fair enough...

    Apologies CI...

    No worries VDU

I can see how at first it looks like he just walked, but now with the likes of Nursey coming out & saying he was asked to leave it looks more likely he was pushed

Shame, but let's hope PL moves onto the scouting staff now & push the likes of Montgomerie out the door too

    Um, PDU?...

    Fair enough...

    Apologies CI...

  9. I could be wrong here but...

Great Britain is an island comprising England, Scotland, and Wales.

The United Kingdom is made up of the island of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland.

Great Britain competes at the Olympics - The United Kingdom does not...

Therefore, Northern Ireland AND Eire compete as Ireland...

    Maybe? Dunno...

  10. Sorry, style is important to me, and I won't simply sacrifice it to grind out results.

Getting back to winning ways is important in the sense that we shouldn't be in a relegation battle next season. But more important than simply climbing the table straight away is a manager who'll come on and lay the foundations for a successful side for many years to come, even if that means an up and down start for them.

Results, Results, Results - that's all that matters for me next season... Let's get re-established in the top 6, then style can come...
