Who cares? Mourinho Fergie Pochettinho would come here and be rendered hopeless by dint of association. We're fated for perennial failure regardless. Nothing and no one will turn us around

You say that like the managers we have had are good.

    They're not.

download.jpg.7105b6d2b8c3cd86c4336f5c1f933279.jpgThis 'good football' nonsense is pure rhetoric. Someone quoted the ManC game we won with a 1-0 Andi Weimann winner. One of the best games ever in my memory, although it really isn't we were a shite team, we played shite football, and we scored a pretty shite goal. Although Weimann standing in front of the villa faithful is still one of my fav screen savers.

Wasn't that game 3-2 to us?

Trouble is, for the past 5 years our team's football almost wholly has been both unattractive and ineffective. It would be a big ask to put both right at once and fixing the unappealing without addressing the effective would just mean getting thumped each week.

I think a better analogy would be: when you eat a cake do you prefer the sponge or the icing? Obviously the icing is lovely but it's f all use without the sponge and the sponge has to come first.

Problem is, he's making a total arse of the sponge atm.

Do you think Jose Mournino plays good football then?

Yes I think it's entertaining. It's a different approach to other top teams but it's not through a fear of losing. It's (imo), set up to expose the oppositions weakness and attack.

Where as the likes of Bruce, allardyce etc are purely set up to avoid defeat.

Simeone's teams play similar to Mourinho's.

You can be defensive and entertaining.

Remember arsenal under George Graham , they were expert at ugly 1-0 wins .

Very rare and actually English football was a lot different back then.

Mourinho's Chelsea were quite good at it but they were quite fascinating to watch. They set up play in order to expose the oppositions weakness. We set up play in the sheer hope we don't concede and nick a goal.

That's how it seems anyway and it's an utter disgrace given the players at our disposal.

  6. Thing is. Most of the teams that 'win' play decent football.

It's very rare that teams win playing horseshit like this and it's never consistent.

When you've got a manager who plays not to lose, you'll never win on a consistent basis. Steve Bruce like many shite imo managers are absolutely terrified of losing.

  7. All this Bruce deserving time because he is a so called expert. Right now, I'd take a non expert like Gary monk whose actually looking like he might get a team promoted ASAP rather than us endure this shit in the hope it's going to get better.

Just thought I'd mention. Brentford scored three against us and then three against Brighton (Who equalized in 97th minute). When was the last time we scored three goals Steve?

Dean Smith in the summer please.

Really missing the striker we've just spunked 15m on to hoof aimless balls to, aren't they?

FFS,  can people please get it into their heads that Bruce,  like any new manager,  needs time.

It seems to be an alien concept to some Villa fans that it might be worth waiting a while before writing off a manager.

    Such a patronising post.

Maybe if we'd have seen some form of improvement in the last 4 months we'd agree it's worth waiting.

However, it's constantly turgid horseshit being dished up and bar a piece of magic from grealish or kodjia and we'd be in a pretty similar position to that that RDM had us.

In addition to the utterly dreadful performances and results, his consistent mind boggling decisions have not helped the thought that he's the man.

Managers need to time to get it right. Not to look like they might get it right. No two ways about it we should be seeing sustained improvement by now if not in results then in performance, organisation, graft or identity.

Instead it's the same toothless garbage that I for one have grown absolutely sick to the back teeth of the last 6/7 years.

I want 11 players on the field who look like they have some form of idea wtf is going on... The right man would have done this by now Imo.

Not acceptable to me. Not as bad as Brentford but we still lost, to a team what, 18th in the league?

In the first half, forest were the worst team I've seen all season. Garbage they were.

I'm glad this thread has calmed down a little from last night, though I suspect it will be a depressing place to come for the next three months.

Yesterday, more than half of the starting XI weren't with the club on December 31st. Several have played either one, two or three games for the club. It really should not be a massive surprise that these players have not immediately clicked into a perfect, cohesive unit that's winning games and destroying all before them. It will take time. I'm sorry, I know nobody wants to hear it, in a culture where we all want everything yesterday, but it's still the truth and nothing can change it. I said it repeatedly during January as well - the more you 'overhaul' a squad, the longer it takes to work.

The next 18 games might not be pretty. The earlier of those 18 should be worse than the latter - questions can seriously be asked if we decline in performance - but it's an extended pre-season to get up to speed.

I think people also need to recognise the weakness of the club's position here. 'Just sack him!' 'I don't know how anyone can stand another nanosecond!' The problem is, no decent manager would join the club without a commitment of funds to spend in the summer. So yet more new players, yet more 'bedding in'. And what to do with those players like Hourihane ('when a manager like Steve Bruce shows interest, it does turn your head') or Hogan (who talked about Bruce being a United legend in his interview) who have joined the club because of the manager?

You might be onto something here. Maybe you've invented the new wheel in deciphering that it may well take time.... where others are seemingly clueless to this thought.

Either that, or maybe those calling for Bruce to go don't think that even when he's given time, things will improve.

    I'm racking my brains.

  12. The overall memory I have of Bruce managing is him going on long horrible runs and the camera cutting to him on motd to show him cluelessly closing his eyes in disbelief at more shambolic defending from his team. When I saw it with Sunderland, I thought it's over for him.

Seen him do it a few times already for villa. He hasn't got a clue.

Why anyone wants to sit through another nanosecond of this turgid crap is seriously beyond me.

We've been freakishly bad at this for years - it's just odd.

Another clue that this woeful manager needs to go. No better than the morons who preceeded him.

    and who might that be?

Well I'm not for one minute going to make out I know. I think rowett would be a good choice.

What is without doubt is that based on the last 2 months, it's not Steve Bruce.

Here's to hoping here begins to prove me wrong this evening.... tho I'm fairly confident that il be bored stiff.

Go back to the first few pages on here after his debut and people were lauding him

    He's not a bad player.

People were wrong. He wasn't even that good on his debut. He just roused the crowd on a few occasions.

    Overall, he's been garbage.

Me too. I was fuming. It was shit. I'm very happy to see bad performances criticised, I think calls to sack the manager off the back of it are bonkers though.

    After 1 bad performance yes.

After 2 months worth without any real exception. Not so much.

Steve Bruce record in his first 17 games

    P .......W........D......L

    17       7        5      6

Ron Saunders in his first 20 games

    P.........W........D......L

    20       8        6       6

Steve Bruce has joined mid season and had to work with a transfer window.

It was never going to be easy and quite a number of us on here never expected to go up this year with the amount of disruption required.

    He needs time Guys

Sorry I maybe missing the point but what has a manager from 3 1/2 decades ago got to do with anything?
