  1. Great win... pleased we managed to do a job with a weakened team, didn't get to see the game but it sounded like we played well... great team selection by MON too... delighted the Fonz scored and Cuellar; not surprised dirty diouf got sent off... probably spitting at people again. Guzan saves penalty again... he's such an amazing goalkeeper.

  2. Yeah... I hate any team from Philly... a lot of their fans are dicks. Good game though, I quite like Boston and the game was hardly a 'classic' but the atmosphere seemed great.

  3. The thing that sickens me these days is the fact that finishing fourth is seen as better than winning a trophy. I suppose that is what the CL and all of the money involved with football has caused. People are forgetting that the LC is still a trophy and it has been many years since we last won one.

Oh well though. Let's finish fourth, attract the same quality players and possibly not even get into the CL group stages. Yes, that's so much better than winning a trophy....

Our squad simply isn't good enough to be in the CL just yet. We couldn't even do it in the Uefa Cup so let's not get ahead of ourselves.

There are quality players we can attract without finishing fourth and I think this needs to be done before we go for CL football. Finishing fourth would by no means get us new signings. What would we say to them? We're fourth and have a CHANCE of qualifying for the group stages? Yes, I'm sure top quality will want to sign knowing it is only a possibility....

The fact is that the very highest quality players want either the highest wages (which we currently can't offer) or CL football (which even if we finish fourth we can't guarantee).

In reality we may just have to settle for top six or seven for years to come. Money has ruined football and with the likes of Man City and Spurs spending big, we may well get left behind. I really think some people are getting carried away and want overnight success in the league.

I'm not saying that we can't or won't finish fourth this season, however if we do then I would be very shocked. I would also be shocked if it made much of a difference to the club as far as signings go and such.

I agree with other people in the thread that have said third place would be a different story. It would mean automatic qualification for the CL. I would be tempted to take that over the LC.

However, I want a trophy. It has been far too long since we had any glory. Sure, it is only the Mickey Mouse cup and it doesn't mean much outside of a trophy win. Since when was a trophy win to be laughed at though?! If we finish fourth I would be happy, although I would be much happier if we win the LC.

If we could do both then I would be over the moon. Yet, I don't think we will finish in the top four. I hope we do, yet if we don't then I would rather have the LC than nothing at all (again). This is our chance to win a trophy. It has been 13 long years since we last won one.....

Very intelligent post... one of the best posts I've seen on the forum for a while.

Too many people get ahead of themselves thinking Champions League is the be all and end all... it really isn't - it's not the same competition it used to be and one of the reasons it was made (like Premier League) was to generate lots of money.

Winning a cup is good progress and it's another cup to add to our large trophy cabinet... Champions League is too hyped up but it's a long-term goal we want to aim toawrds, but we're just not ready for Champions League at this current stage but I think we will be soon.

P.S. What's with this term 'Mickey Mouse'. It's played out between 92 teams in the league's... FA Cup is traditionally more famous but the League Cup is still a respected cup to win... 87 out of the 92 teams involved in the comp would genuinely be delighted if they won it.

  4. Yeah, Petrov was looking a bit tired towards the end but I think he was justt doing enough... but I don't agree Coker should of been taken off... however, the introduction of Albrighton was great and really lifted the team I thought - good decision by MON bringing him on.

Just on a sidenote... I can't really remember that well as it was sung at the start of the match but what was the exact lyrics when we sung something like "100 years won **** all 100 years won **** all we all hate blue scum we all hate blue scum". That's all I can really remember but could tell me the exact lyrics that we sung?

  5. Fair enough... but personally I'd rather see us win a cup, show we're still a strong and competitive team in the league with another top 6 finish and playing in a competition we can win rather than finishing 4th with lots of hype and media-wanking attention about us and the Champions League and then look very silly by getting knocked out of the qualifying round. If I re-phrase the question to "A League Cup and a top 6 finish or GETTING PAST THE QUALIFYING ROUND AND PLAYING IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE proper"... well, that's an easy decision.

  6. Are you three serious? I may have missed the sarcasm but...you would seriously give up a place in the CL for the mickey mouse cup?

I too would love for us to grab some silverware this season, but not at the expense of the massive step forward that gaining Champions League football would give us!

That's sort of a different question you've put foward.

We'd have to play 1 qualifying round (3rd round) in Champions League to ensure ourselves in the actual competition... if it was a certainty that we'd be playing in Champions League proper, oh yes, I'd certainly prefer to play in Champions League than win the League Cup.

  7. This game is so, so vital. I said earlier in this thread, I reckon this game will determine whether we will challenge the top 4.

Why would you think like that? There's still 18 games left to play... nothing is decided now... people were ruling out Arsenal for winning the league a few weeks ago, now they're in touching distance with a game in hand. But still, as you've said the game is still very vital tommorow... with Citeh and Spuds winning we've got to make a bit of a gap again... and that includes Liverpool who could be 8 points behind again. A draw wouldn't be the end of the world but I really hope the boys are up for this tommorow... it really is a MASSIVE game.

Anyways, can't wait for tommorow, I'll be there, lets hope the snow **** away from Villa Park and beat these thieving victims!

  8. I've just finished watching the season finale - just incredible... you thought Dexter had the last laugh, but it appears Trinity did but I'm still trying to work out how Trinity foud out where Dexter and his family lived... it didn't show Arthur spying on Rita or finding out his address or anything like and when did he have a chance to kill her... he was riding out of Miami trying to make his own getaway. Still, what an amazing season... and I loved how Dexter has ended up with a scenrio his 'dad' had.

  9. Oh what a surprise, Arsenal play shit then Fabregas comes on and scores two goals which wins them the game. They are so shit without him... but we've won the physcological battle... he'll be out with his injury for a few weeks now.

We didn't help ourselves today by playing below par. I think MON got it wrong going with a 4-4-2... 4-5-1 would of worked better. Anyways, lets look to the game in 2 days time, hopefully we bounce back by beating those horrible Scousers.

  10. I've just come back (about 15 minutes ago) from a beautiful Christmas Eve mass... being there to celebrate the true and joyous meaning of Christmas is something very special. I'll be eating my traditional Christmas Eve dinner soon. Honey roast ham - yum yum.

  11. I've just been reading their match thread on Arsenal Mania. I've got to say, some of them have been very appreciative towards us, but a few (I'm pointing at the person with the username 'General' (stop stalking me!) really have it in for us for some reason. Is he still bitter after last season pwning them at their stadium (with no atmosphere) coming back for the draw at VP and not beating at the Emirates yet? I nearly fell off my chair when he said we've been lucky to beat some of the teams we've played (yeah, it's all down to luck that we've beaten Chelsea, Man United and Liverpool... two teams which you got beaten by), got outplayed by Citeh (WTF?!), our defence is just average and that Arsenal's defence is better and get this... Denilson is better than Milner. Blimey, I think they're all turning into Glastons.

Anyways, Arsenal don't like playing teams that are physical, strong, energetic teams and we've already seen them get smashed by a physical, strong and energetic Chelsea a few weeks ago... I wonder if they'll learn anything going into this match? It's best defence in the league vs the best attack in the league... I think it'll be a 1-1 draw with goals coming from Downing and Eduardo.

  12. I can't stand Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall - his cooking is EXTREMELY average and he comes across as a bit of a pompus turd too. He's just a middle-upper class man who thinks he can cook.

Gordon Ramsey and Nigella Lawson are my favourites. Ramsey's F Word programme is excellent and I like his own unique cooking-style which other celebrity chef's don't quite have (he's not so mainstream)... I'd love to eat at one of his restaurants.

I'm speechless when it comes to Nigella... she's the queen of food porn and she's such a hot MILF. I LOVE watching her programmes.
