  1. Watching Man City v Arsenal. Such a technical master class. Great possession football. And as boring as ****. Like watching paint dry. The modern game might be technically brilliant. But give me the excitement of the old days, mistakes, calamities and all. It was simply more fun.

  2. His enthusiasm needs to be controlled. It borders on wildness sometimes. There was a moment yesterday when he almost lost it, could have been red carded. There’s something there though.

  3. A few indifferent performances didn’t make him a poor player, likewise a few good ones don’t make him worth a punt. I’d need more evidence to sign this guy. Jury is still out for me. But I trust Unai, so we’ll see.

  4. The Tories often talk about removing red tape, without ever going into the specifics. Environmental protections, workers rights, food safety, building regulations, Carcinogenic additives, fertiliser restrictions, sewage limits etc, etc. Take your pick, they’re all at risk.

Apologies if I've missed something, but, my understanding is Aston Villa (or V sports) do not own Villa Park. We sold it to another company (owned by Nas & Wes) which got us out of FFP issues with the Premier League when we were promoted from the championship.

Now what is to stop that company building a brand new stadium and leasing it back to Aston Villa for £1 per year? This would result in zero impact on FFP, PSR or whatever they come up with next year to stop NSWE putting their own money into the club? And we get a brand new, state of the art stadium that produces lots of revenue.

I understand the position of many that they never want to leave VP*. I'm interested in why we can't just fund a stadium by another company and not have it impact PSR.

*(One point to remember is we haven't always played there.)

Building costs do not count towards FFP anyway.

Maybe not one for this thread, I don't know, but the political orientation of Birmingham's football clubs is interesting. I would argue that both clubs are right-coded, but that Birmingham are, as you say, more street-fighting fash type right, whereas Villa has a bit of an establishment Tory vibe (we seem to be followed by a disproportionate number of Tory MPs and various hangers-on).

There’s no f****ing Tory vibe where I sit.

Looks like Lille are going about as well as we are in the league so should be a good matchup, shame we’re at home first leg though slightly less of an issue with the removal of the away goal rule.

Didnt we play (and beat) Lille in the intertwobob cup years ago?

Nope. They beat us. 1-1 at their place 0-2 at VP.
