  1. Hughes blatantly does want the job. As for McClaren - IF the board rated him enough to interview they should have interviewed him . It is a bit meek of them to cancel because of his unpopularity but at same time i myself wouldnt want McClaren here I don't remember Hughes saying that.. As far as i'm aware McClaren is the only one (yes, the only one) who has said he is interested & the board should have at least interviewed him. If peer pressure led them not to consider him in the wake of "another houllier" situation then I think they are soft. If there were a large amount of candidates then I could understand it, but we are thin on the ground now..
  2. It takes me three months to usually employ managers at my work - this doesn't mean I am incompetent, it doesn't mean no one wants to work for me, it actually means I am ensuring I am making the right decision for my company. God forbid what would happen to Randy if he took the same length of time... That's all well & good for you... but we ain't got 3 months, time is of the essance. Before you know the season will have started, good players that have left haven't been replaced & we will employ someone in September who will say he didn't have chance to add to the squad, have a pre-season with the players etc etc & we will have another crap season.....
  3. This is going is get lot of stick but why not McClaren, he's the only one so far that wants to manage us but has not been considered because of the abuse he has had from the forum fans, some justified & a lot not justified I will say that again he wants to be considered With the rapidly shrinking list of candidates ruling themselves out why not give him a chance as it seems he wants it & has something to prove. I hate to say it but it looks like the Villa job is not as attractive as us fans think it is I can only see it being him (if considered) or Hughes now, but what if Hughes don't want it. This is turning into a farce. Randy & co should have had a list of candidates drawn up just in case Houllier wouldn't return, not start looking the day after they've released him. I mean Fulham got thier man in a week & they had no idea they were going to need a new manager. :x
  4. This may have been covered earlier (so many pages on this topic) I heard on the radio today that Rafa turned down the job cause he would only be given 30 million quid to play with... If he did turn us down because of the size of the "kitty" then he ain't the right man for the job That's a nice sum... but then we need to buy... a goalkeeper a RB a LB possibly a centre half a replacement for Ash & possibly Downing Another midfielder Another striker Say we get 15-20 million for ash & downing stays that's 7 players at approx 7 million a player, it can be done, but we won't be buying "star names" I didn't get this Martinez pursuit at first but the more i think about it i can see Randy's long term thinking, we probably won't attract star players at the moment, it's a chance to start again. If Martinez can spend wisely (we may be "steady eddie's" for a year or two) & build on each season to progress is better than an expensive quick fix
  5. it's funny, every day i seem to be saying "you know i'm coming round to the idea of manager xyz" Only problem is manager xyz is changing every day too.... :bonk:
  6. Who's gonna be next to come off the poll?
  7. Been bracing myself for that since Houllier felt a twinge in his chest back in April
  8. If Randy is reading these forums then he'll never appoint a new manager we all like, apart from carlo & moyes are the only 2 we mostly agree on
  9. it's all smoke & mirrors... to throw you off the scent... Gareth Southgate is coming in.... :?
  10. Has nothing to do with the topic in hand & should never have been mentioned
  11. Unless it's Carlo, Moyes or possibly Hughes the new manager (according to this topic) won't be given (ah that's where that word was supposed to be, see earlier post) or stand a chance Let's just go after Fergie, Mourinho or Guardiola
  12. What makes you say that? He's only had to choose 1 manager so far, Jol said we had contacted him whilst he was at Ajax..he was employed. seem to remember reading/hearing that, mind you i could be wrong, maybe one of you guys may remember just before Houllier was appointed
  13. Given? As in Shay Given? as manager? No sorry, Submitted without checking. Given wasn't supposed to be there, lol...
  14. Why did they sack him them ? Not good for Liverpool - but good enough for you guys at Villa Park. Patronizing scouse gits How many times guys we aren't friggin Liverpool..... Not at the moment, but we could be in the future if we give one of these managers a chance & not slate them before they've even been interviewed WE have already tried with one ex liverpool manager - and look how that ended Not this again. It makes no difference what clubs Benitez has managed before. Agreed, Doesn't matter who he's managed before... apart from Small Heath
  15. Moyes won't come (i see to remember Randy doesn't like poaching managers in employment) Carlo is taking a year out to "find himself" or some shite Jol has gone to fulham Hughes, concerned about his staying power Given what's left, why not Rafa.... Unless Randy has an ace up his sleeve the size of the Rotunda Given

  17. Let him go to liverplop then, for a top price & replace him with someone better for less money. Is Rafa better connected in Europe in terms of attracting talent than King Kenny? Maybe
  18. I don't care who it is as long as they do the above simples 8)
  19. I posted a similar question earlier, fulham have got a better manager now, if Hughes does come to Villa then that makes our expectations less than Fulhams I'm not sure it's the right thread for discussing it, but what makes Jol a better manager than Hughes? Err... Only he has been far more successful than Hughes Has he? Not much in it, Jol has had more success at more clubs though JOL Ajax dutch cup winners in 2009 Hamberg finished 5th in league Spurs twice finished 5th & semi final of the FA cup and a lot of success in holland including took Rkc Waalwijk from relagation contenders to European challengers Roda dutch cup winners 1997 Hughes Finishing 6th in the premierleague, FA cup & League cup semis with Blackburn couldn't better that even with the pots of cash at Man City

  22. whoever it is, get the **** on with it, they knew pretty much Houllier was going, they've had weeks to decide who they want.... paper, pen, sign, job done
  23. Fulham's season starts at the end of this month with the europa league. We can afford to wait, Fulham couldn't. Granted Fulham's season starts early, But it's not like we don't have much to do either, whoever cames into villa needs to sort out Young & Downing (i'd like to sort Downing out), shift out some shite players, buy a shedload of good players so we don't end up in the same mess this season
