Not just a flurry of activity - we've had that before, e.g. with Sherwood/RdM - but this time it seems like the right activity. Thought-out, rather than scattergun.

Also Lamberts second Summer Window quite a few were brought in.

But as for the 20 year mark was that the first summer of Big Ron?  That really was mental.  Didn't something like 6/7 players make their debut on the opening day of the Season?

Trying to think back now :  Teale, Staunton, Richardson, Atkinson, Regis, Mortimer , Kuibicki

Originals : Spink, McGrath, Daley, Yorke??

So after Typing that looked on Wiki and following was bought in the summer as well:

    Sealey, Ehiogu

    Followed in the season by:

    Parker, Farrell, Barrett, Bosnich, Berry

Selling Cascarino and Platt enabled us to pay for all the above

Now that was a good time to be a Villa fan :)

He's still 16 and subject in that example to loads of advice from all kinds of people. Arsenal weren't exactly shabby as a club then. I can't stand the pettiness of football fans these days. He made a decision, not out of hatred or rejection, but presumably because he genuinely thought that was better for him at that point.  How does anyone KNOW he would have thrived here?

Even if it hasn't worked out in the way he hoped, I can't understand the mindset of fans who feel slighted by him. Seems a bit sad really.

And at the time even though we were producing good Youth Teams the first team were  a bit shite and the those promising Youth Players never really making it across the line.

We wasted that NextGen winning team.

Jack was heading that way as well until he got roomed with Terry who got inside his head and showed him how to progress.  Not just about Talent but also mindset.

At Arsenal even though making the first team was remote the youth players get sent to half decent clubs on loan to make a name for themselves.

Though I didnt like it I can fully understand the decision.

Same here. Most people knew that was someone that worked in the hospital where medical took place. I don’t think it’s the same person or twitter name though. @NIVillan

Did the original account have 1 at the end of their twitter handle?

Recently the account has done a lot of gloating in the Villa ITK twitter war.  I dont remember the old version ever doing that.

The Jimmy McCann @JamesMcCann seems to be fairly reliable, though he has also got himself into a few spats recently.

I think it's bullshit. I'm sure that was the person that said there was a medical for ages, and then nothing happened.

The account during the Tone years was very reliable, he/she got caught out with the Byron last minute uturn and took the usual abuse about that.

Not sure anymore though since the Account was reborn.  The tone of the tweets do seem to match the ones from previous years.  Just my thoughts anyway.

Living & working in Leeds, Leeds fans today are worried as Phillips wasn't at their kit launch last night, in some of their own words "Our worst 3 players turned up to it".

In all honestly why wouldn't arguably their best player/one of their own not be the centre piece to their kit launch?

I've had my doubts about this, as my own thoughts were it was all a smokescreen and we were trying to land Jansson but that's obviously not happened.  I now  think Phillips might be a goer.

Didnt we have Delph in our new kit just before he left?

  6. BTW Does anyone remember a Villa Fan being on Radio 5 last October.  Adrian Chiles show,  Wife of Dennis Violet (former Man U and Busbey Babe) was trying to return the 1957 Cup Final Programme to a Villa fan and track them down.

Well it was me and the link to the mailing list was that someone who used to be on it contacted me via Facebook saying Radio 5 wanted to get in contact with me.

When did it start? My memory is that I joined in about 1994. Can't remember how many members there were at that point, but for me living in Leeds, it was a real Villa lifeline - and - indirectly - got me attending matches again, after about a decade away.

The original list started off in 1994.  I was at Uni in the States and picked up a book about this Internet thing.  I think this was Summer 1994, As I lived on Campus had easy Access to computer labs at the Dorms.  It mentioned something about Mailing Lists so I joined a General Football one but I put out a request for a Villa one.  Got a reply.

I was told to email I think richard @ pyramid   and I was added to the CC list.  I always kept at least one copy of an email so I could reply all.   I think you mjmooney joined just after me.  Came home xmas 94 and when I returned to Uni there was some guy called Malcom on, winding everyone on.

Xmas 1995 I think we had our first xmas meal get together organised by John Penlington.  Ended up sitting opposite Derek Dougan for the meal.  Next year we had Jimmy Brown, with someone we presumed was his daughter until they started to get close :)

1996 was the Euronet which the photo was posted earlier, organised by Mark Quinn and Steve Pennycooke.

The last get together I went to was the night before the 2000 Cup Final when Norm had flown over.

Was sad to see it go.  One of the best things for me personally to come with using the Internet as it gave me a way to keep up to date with what was happening at the Villa.   Still have that book as a memento

That's the trouble - people using different names, I don't realise who's here under a different one.

Malcolm Everall, wasn't it? Is Norm still alive?

Yeah, I'm still in FB contact with Kate (aka Nanook), John Kreeger (Blitz), Donna Jackson (Ra Kilt), Tsvet, Trond Hagenes, Ian Robathan, Rad Popovic and Naz (you're on here, I think!)

And there was Christian Jahnsen (set up a very early Villa website), Mark Quinn, the Legendary Michael David Ault, Steve Pennycooke... I'm forgetting loads of others...

We even had a football team:

ah Malc (RIP) , everyone had run ins with him, even his reflection. Mr Crandle was indeed lovely. Still catch Katie on FB.

I saw a different side of Malcom in private emails sent and he was a good guy.  He often said stuff just to liven the list up :)

You realise my ITK posts are a well publicised, self confessed joke right?

the fact that you might think they’re serious just proves the point in trying to make to be honest.

No sorry not read your posts or if I have havent taken too much notice who wrote them.

Apologies again the post wasnt aimed at you,  just twitter has been ruined past couple of weeks with a Villa ITK account war going on.

I dont take any ITK serious until the club confirms something is going on.

I was actually ITK once and didnt even take myself seriously.  I had gone down to Villa Park to take photos of the Trinity before it was ripped down.  Security Guard came over asked me what I was upto, explained and he said come with me.  Took me inside the Stadium and said let me know when you have finished.  So on way out I found him and he told me about Ginola being showed around the Stadium the day before.   Even though I had been told about it I didnt really tell anyone else as I didnt take it as serious until the club announced it and thought f**k me!

Your right, they would only take a loan if the option to buy and fee was set at the end of the loan period. But my argument is why would they do this with Tuanzebe, if he was available to transfer? The media is talking about another loan, not with an option to buy.

To the media it is a loan, the finer details of option to buy etc doesnt matter when selling headlines

We're getting way off topic here (sorry, my fault for the original quip). But fwiw, NIV is right. Someone from an independent Scotland would still be British (as distinct from being a UK citizen, but also as distinct from living in the British Isles). Great Britain (geographically) is England, Wales and Scotland, regardless of sovereignty issues. The British Isles (again, geographically) is Great Britain plus the whole of Ireland. No Irish people are British (as in 'G.B.'), they are all Irish. Citizens of Northern Ireland are, however, citizens of the United Kingdom. For now...

Wahoo backed up by the brotherhood of the Villa Email List :)

The logo ruins the kit in my opinion. That’s why I didn’t buy one.

But the design and colours were very good.

Colours I can go with but design no.   I have seen comments from people moaning that this years kit is like Burnley , well just like some brothers stole the plans to the silk spinning Mill we sent our spies last year to steal the designs for Scunthorpes new kit!

British refers to the nationality of people from the UK. That's the way we use it. As I say, ireland is technically part of the British isles, and you could call everyone who was born on the collection of islands British, but that's not how anyone uses the word. You don't call people from the republic of Ireland British as for us the word British is a specific nationality. Someone from Northern Ireland (you perhaps with your username?) Is also considered British when referring to their nationality as they're citizens of the UK.

So they'd be Scottish. And as British as someone from the republic of Ireland (geographically British but not British when anyone talks about nationality).

I was born in England just a blow in up here so would hold a British passport despite what ever they want to call themselves here in NI.  I could have qualified for an Irish passport but just as Brexit was blowing up so was my marriage.  Oops!

Maybe, I just can’t get my head around the fact that Purslow and Smith categorically stated that they will not be making any loans.

    Time will tell.

I didnt think they actually said they wouldnt take any loans but just no loans that we just gave the player back at the end.  They are happy to make loans they lead to us buying the playeer at the end of the loan if it has gone well.

  16. 15 minutes ago, praisedmambo said:

Yet the nationality British refers to people from the UK specifically, so they'd be known as Scottish. Ireland is technically part of the British isles but you wouldn't call someone from Cork or Dublin British now. They're Irish.

No I wasnt referencing the British Isles but the Island of Britannia (Great Britain).

I dont know how exactly it works but if Scotland left the Kingdom of United Kingdom/Great Britain would they still be British?  I say yes as Scotland is still situated on the Island of Great Britain.

  17. I just don't get the love for last seasons kit.  Just because a Villa Fan has his company's logo on it.  From what we have been told Luke did not design or make the kit yet is getting all the love and glory.  I hate it but not as much as that gree, red and black thing we had as an away shirt.

I will have to wait until I see the actual kit in real life before I decide about this seasons but initially It looks like a proper Villa Kit to me especially having the Blue Socks.  Takes me back to when I first starting following the club and the sublime umbro kits of 74-81.

Weird that you didn’t mention it until it had been reported in the press though 🤔

Not everyone has a weird fetish about everyone knowing they are ITK

The way things are going with Brexit, he soon won't be British, either.

Eh?  Scotland will still be British as it is part of the Island of Brittannia, just if they leave they would not be part of the United Kingdom

He's still on the board and he still owns over 30% of the club, so even though we all know (hope) he has no active say in the day-to-day goings on at the club, he could still be described as one of the people that are in charge, in my opinion.

I thought that they had recently reduced Tone's share of the club further.

  21. The explosion of Joy from Villa fans (Including old players such as Ian Taylor) hearing we have secured Mings shows just how much he is worth to the club.

The other balance to this is just how little we paid for McGinn, you just cant get bargin deals all the time, sometimes you just have to go and pay the asking price.

Leicester have just been quoted 40 million for some Burnley Defender so hopefully in hindsight the 20 million will prove to be a bargin.

Mings currently has a magical hold over Villa fans (including me) and if we went into the new season without him we would have had doubts.

These type of posts always make me chuckle. Do people not see the relevance of asking what our previous manager would have done?

People did it when O'Neill left, people did it when Lambert left, and if things go badly for Smith, people will do it when he leaves.

It's part and parcel of 'football chat', unfortunately (for those that only care about the here and now).

Thanks for talking down but your type of posts make me really sad when someone who is meant to be a fellow fan try to make out he is superior.

but there is no relevance talking about What Would Steve Bruce do.

    • He is not Our current Manager
    • We were in a different division to  Bruce's Time so Targets would have been different
    • Along with Above point I doubt Bruce would have got us promoted
    • Totally different scenario with our Wealthy Owners and knowledgable Management Team than what Bruce operated under
    • Teams played a different style so different targets would have been identified

There is relevance talking about What Steve Bruce did

Learning from the past is always important as you should always Look behind to learn how to go forward, but doing What Ifs about a previous manager(s) and what he would have done has no relevance to a Thread titled 'Summer Transfer Window 2019' (Left the press bit out.)

Reviewing what the previous manager did and where he went in the right direction (McGinn) or cocked up (Hogan) and discussing in those terms.  Using Hogan - people pointing out he has had one good season and we shouldnt have taken that gamble is valid in the context of whether we should bid for Maupay.

As for only caring about the here and now.  Yeah I have enjoyed the ups and downs (Not enjoyed I should Add) of being a Villa supporter for over 40 years.

    Been lucky enough:

to see a team striving to improve itself and ending up being League and then  European Champions.

Attending a match where Villa were the Defending European Champions

Witness a rebuilding of a the Club by Sir Graham Taylor.  One that held the club together for a long time after.

The Excitement of Big Rons Time and the sheer happiness at watching a player from my childhood become manager in Brian Little.

The League Cup Wins etc etc etc.

Put that is the past and Villa fans are often accused of living in it.  Time to move forward and make new memories.
