  1. Elmander played well for every club he has played for so it isn't just good form. His class is finally showing through.

He was managed by Gary Megson, and he has mentioned that he couldn't play well when playing under Megson.

He has said that he just shouted at him constantly and it didn't help at all. I'd have him at Villa for £3 million, definitely.

  2. We are actually the worst team in the Premier League for dropping points after getting into the lead.

It is 12 points, and if we didn't drop just half those points, we would be 4th.

Puts things into perspective, if we could hold leads, we'd be right up there.

Yes - but it is our inability to that - which puts us ninth.

Bit like wolves saying 'if only we could win a few games'

Yes but we know that we can hold the leads. We held our leads nearly every game last season and IMO, were the best in the league at doing that. That's why I'm raising the issue.

It will come, holding our leads, and then we'll rise up the table.

    That's what I'm saying.

  3. Spurs fans - after our kids showcased exactly what they can do, where are these super-kids a lot were boasting about? Bostock was the next big thing, and Parrett, and Caulker, and Kane... what has happened to them? Bostocks taking in loan football at Hull I think... but how are you going to get these kids integrated into your team?

Bostock is at Hull, currently stifling himself. He won't make it as a Premier League player. Seems to have an attitude problem. He went to Brentford last season, was their best player for the first three games, then coasted until he got dropped from the team. Same thing at Hull. Played really well for a couple of games, scoring a great goal on his debut (as he had for Brentford) but now can't stay in the team. Clearly a talented kid with a lot of potential, but he's not going to reach it with his current attitude.

He obviously shouldn't have signed for you in the first place and it was fairly obvious that he has an attitude problem considering he rejected the chance to earn very decent money at Palace and play at the same time to play in Spurs reserves and earn more money.

Spurs at the very least should have loaned Bostock back to Palace.

  4. And Delph is as close to poor as you can be

    That is just ridiculous.

If Delph was a United player they'd be raving about him.

They think Darrren Gibson is good for fucksake. Possibly the most average player you can think of, but just beaten to that award by Danny Guthrie.

  5. i thought he was terrible yesterday.

In his first Premier League start, after not playing not much football at all, what exactly were you expecting?

I'll judge him after the Manchester United game because hopefully then he'd have a run of 3 games.

  6. To be fair I think Bale is showing world class form and certainly warrants the praise he's getting. If anything, he's received too much bad press in the past, when he had that record at Spurs, it was clear that he was a very good talent.

Will be surprised if he's still at Spurs come this time next season.

Man City, Chelsea, Inter, Real will all be very interested in him. It's just whether he is a money grabbing judas like Milner and Barry. Bale doesn't seem to be one of them kind of players, but could still happen.

I hate Spurs as much as anyone, but let's not pretend that Bale isn't a very very good player who we would all worship if he was a Villa player.

Course you want him at Villa but there is no way he's close to Ronaldo or Messi as some people have stated in the press.

Agreed but from what I've read, the papers didn't say that. They said the performances against Inter were Ronaldo or Messi quality performances and to be honest, I'd have to agree with them.

I'm not saying he's as good as Messi or Ronaldo, but he had a brilliant game and see no reason why he shouldn't be praised for that.

  7. Houllier seems to hate Delfouneso so I seriously doubt he'll play.

He doesn't even trust Delfouneso when there is no strikers available apart from him, for a Caling Cup home tie against lower league opposition and would rather play 6 midfielders than a striker. Do you really think he'll play Delfouneso away from home against a very decent Fulham side?

  8. To be fair I think Bale is showing world class form and certainly warrants the praise he's getting. If anything, he's received too much bad press in the past, when he had that record at Spurs, it was clear that he was a very good talent.

  9. blues please, would not want to risk playing them in a semi or final if we both got through. The trouble that a wednesday night semi final at blues or VP would be terrible.

The trouble may be quite bad but the game would be brilliant!

I'd love it if Villa play Blues in the semi-finals or final.

  10. This happened with Man Utd and Man City last year in the cup. Both teams gave the other team big allocations (I think Man City brought something like 7,000 to Old Trafford) and the police couldn't change the kick off time at all as it was midweek, so had to be played at night.

  11. Bent couldn't play the Spurs way. He was the wrong player for them. Square peg, round hole. We know all about that here. Spurs are too technical for him. He needs to be chasing after balls that are coming over his shoulder (fnarr fnarr). Not dinking around with triangles outside the 18yd box. He was right to move on and Spurs were right to sell him. I just wish we'd bought him cuz he'd have fitted right in with our style of play.

    Good post

Bent is a far far far more prolific striker than Jermaie Defoe, and he was your best after Berbatov's exit.

Actually, even with the good season Bent had last season for Sunderland, his Premier League minutes played to goal ratio was the same as Jermain Defoe's. Bent scored many penalties, Defoe scored most of his goals in first half of the season.

But at least Bent scored his penalties. I seem to remember Defoe go on a streak of missing about 3 penalties in a row I think.

Just face it, Bent is a lot better than any of your strikers. I'd certainly have Bent over any Spurs strikers at Villa if given the choice.

And let's remember that Defoe plays for Spurs who create a lot of chances with players like Crouch, Lennon, Bale and Modric setting chances up for Defoe and Bent plays for Sunderland who don't really create a lot with players like Richardson, Zenden and Cattermole setting chances up for Bent, a huge difference really.

It just didn't work out for Bent at Spurs, you could say the same thing about Peter Crouch at Villa, he was shit at Villa but relatively good everywhere else. Although I still think he's shit, he was even shitter at Villa.

  12. Scotland U21 boss said this.....

"Gerard Houllier speaks highly of him and was going to start him at Spurs last week until he changed his mind at the last minute, so he obviously rates him very highly."

Houllier also mentioned that he wasn't going to play Albrighton so I think he was going to play Bannan instead of Albrighton but changed his mind right at the last minute.

  13. Point would have been fair. We were unlucky but I'm not too downbeat to losing because it just showed how good Van der Vaart was, no other player really struggled as. We played well but the only thing that pissed me off was how easy Dunne and Petrov let Van der Vaart score.

Petrov is really pissing me off and should be dropped! Not good enough anymore IMO.
