  1. Clichy is **** awful.

Terrible signing for City and good business by Arsenal.

Signing Clichy has **** up Man Citys 'big team' tag. Teams will just target Clichy as the massive weakness that he is.

I really really don't rate Clichy.

Not a lot of transfer activity at all on the whole, a bit boring really.

  2. So what if it is illegal. It's not like Liverpool will get found out, and even if they do I'm not sure the FA would do anything anyway.

And I can really see that version of events from that Liverpool 'itk' to be true. It was very weird how Downing suddenly went from willing to sign a new contract to 'I can't commit to anything at this stage of my career'. There 100% was some kind of outside involvement.

And I don't really care about it now.

Barry, Milner, Young.... may as well add Downing to that list. Easily replaceable IMO, as well as Young, but Downing is easier to replace.

  3. If he has handed in a transfer request, then he has to be the most disloyal player going. We signed him for big money from the Championship with a broken leg, then he comes back and has an absolutely dire season. We then give him the platform to improve his game and is voted player of the season with him also getting into the England squads. Then to hand in a transfer request would be worse than Milner, Barry and Young by a long way.

Actually no it would be just as bad as Milner. Because whilst Milner didn't hand in a transfer request, he practically did and left Villa with hardly any choice but to sell.

  4. I can normally picture a player in someone's kit - Like i cold easily see Ash in a Utd shirt, I could see Barry in a Citeh shirt.

But for some reason, i just cant see in Downing wearing the Red of Liverpool.

Downing wore practically the same colour for years at Middlesborough. I really can't see Young wearing a Man Utd shirt, would look weird.

  5. Ireland would be a brilliant Young replacement IMO. Shocked to see so many people thinking he's worthless.

    A team of.....

    --------------Bent--------------

    Downing--Ireland--Albrighton

    --------Delph----Makoun------

    New LB--Clark--Cuellar/Dann--New RB

    --------------Foster-------------------

That team would get us top 8 IMO, also swapping Gabby with Ireland for suitable games.

  6. I'm slowly coming round to the idea of McLeish, as long as he improves his style of play, and brings through more young players at Villa.

If he makes a couple of good signings I think people will forget about all of this.

I still think we could do better but I trust Randy knows what he is doing and I trust that he is the best manager for Aston Villa given Randy's requirements for the job.

Also, I was wondering if McLeish would play better football at Villa as he has better players, and I wondered what type of football he played at Rangers. Because surely the style of play he used at Rangers would be similar at Villa.

    Any SPL fans know?

  7. He will stifle our youth development, whats the point of having players like Delph, Albrighton if most of the time the ball will bypass them

    What???

    You honestly believe that??

Believe that McLeish will just ship some of the brightest young talent in the country OUT so that he can replace them with the likes of Craig Gardner??

Dont kid yourself. He may be a shit manager but he aint **** stupid

That's not what he's saying. He's saying the long ball football won't go through the midfield making the midfield less important, therefore stifling their development.

I personally agree with him though, which young players has he ever brought through the ranks? Nobody at blues... I wouldnt know about Rangers to be honest

  8. It pisses me off how people are saying Villa fans are only upset because he's a former Blues manager.

    No, it's because he's shit.

I wish all shit managers could win the League Cup, we would have won it 10 times last year if fans were to be believed when spouting off about Houllier.

We all know he fluked that cup win.

He had home ties against MK Dons and Rochdale, also squeaked past Brentford at home with Phillips scoring an injury time equaliser then winning the tie on penalties, then had another home tie against us when we were really shit, Blues then only just progressed after beating bottom of the league West Ham in injury time.

The final, we all know about that, the luckiest of circumstances in which to win.

Everything about him just doesn't suit Villa. How many young players did he bring through at Blues? What style of football did he play? What players could he attract? His scouting system?

All very poor in those aspects.

  9. If all these secret meetings in Corsica have been true, then it is quite obvious that regardless of what people think; he has already been interviewed for the job. All this talk of him being interviewed in London I find amusing....they are probably just meeting up to celebrate!!

I very much doubt whether Alex McLeish has ever been to Corsica in his life.

He was in Corsica on holidays. It was all over the papers, before Randy went to Corsica.

  10. I posted this on the Gen's thread yesterday

    "General.

I'm sure that the board of Aston Villa will deliberate the appointment of the next manager very seriously indeed to ensure the mistakes of last season aren't repeated. I'm also sure that whoever you appoint will be briefed fully on the goals & and direction the board wish to take the club in. Whoever you appoint in my eyes will be an improvement on GH but thats just personal. The appointment you make now will indicate what the realistic goals for the future are. For example:

Ancellotti - serious about pushing on to the level of CL football & attracting top quality players to VP

Moyes - Serious about challenging for a top six position, UEFA cup football & attracting good solid quality proffesionals to VP

Martinez - Serious about maintaining our premiership status and attracting players that want to use Villa as a stepping stone to other clubs & not really challenging for any honours unless we have a lucky cup run.

McLaren - Serious about completely ignoring the feelings of the fans that you covet enough to take the time & effort to trawl through hundreds of emails weekly. If this guy is appointed then unfortunately the board will lose a lot of the trust & credibility, which is rightly deserved, with the fans.

Appointing Maclaren after GH would be akin to replacing Gary Glitter as your baby sitter with Ian Huntley!!!

General - the decision the board take on the next manager will not only send out a message to the fans on the boards ambition but also a message to the players and to the rest of football. Please bear in mind my comments."

I stand by these words. Whichever manager the board appoints will send a message of its intention out. Can anyone here seriously tell me by appointing RM we are sending a message of intent of being serious about challenging for european places or domestic honours?? I'm not saying that the appointment of RM is right or wrong it just contradicts all the "5 year plan" "we want to challenge at the highest level" spin that we have been told by Randy & the board!!!

There is having an opinion and then there's some keyboard warrior trying to belittle some of the best business brains in the country (working on the board). Who are you to tell the board what to do?

You think they don't know that appointing a manager will also send out a message to the footballing world?

Also, why are you so intent on putting in so many digs at the General?

I don't know what's worse, you posting this drivel to the General about the club you 'support', or the fact that you've copied it on another thread in hope of support and encouragement?

  11. I've just looked up Ranieri and he has a poor record IMO.

Resigned from Atletico Madrid before he could get sacked, sacked by Chelsea, sacked by Valencia, Parma let his contract run out, sacked by Juve and resigned from Roma before he could get sacked.

Shocking record by the looks of it.

  12. If I was a Villa fan I'd be very worried about those two signings which will probably come up to at least £25 million. Especially Henderson who really is not all that, if he wasn't English, nobody would care about him. Also from what I've seen of Sunderland, David Meyler is a better player, just that he always gets injured.

  13. Why is there all this talk about Downing leaving. I'm 100% sure he won't leave as Ash will leave. Why would we sell our 2 best players in the same transfer window? We have practically no choice with Young but with Downing we can say yes or no.

If the reports are true that Liverpool have bid £16 million, then I can guarantee that it will get rejected. If clubs want to get AVFC's best players, they will have to pay a lot of money for them. As shown with Barry (considering he had 1 year left), Milner and probably Young.
