I'm filling the void by watching it all again from the start.

It's amazing how much of the current storylines are talked about or hinted at right from the start. The Lyanna/Rob/Rhaegar storyline was obviously planned from day 1 (which I guess is the advantage of having most of the source material laid out already) as the foundations are laid literally in the first episode.

Yes, the first three seasons in particular have a lot of foreshadowing of recent events but that really only highlights that the story was originally meant to be a trilogy of books. Seasons 4 & 5 were largely filler and now we are getting to the meat of the story again. I really wish the show took the time jump that GRRM planned and made the series leaner.

Anyway, I'm filling the void by watching Vikings. Different kind of show but I'm into it.

  2. Still have a lot of work to do but the two signings (assuming Tshibola does sign) so far have been pretty good. We'll probably see more come in once a few leave. Hopefully that is soon because we have about a month to get sorted, or two weeks if we want to start the season well.

  3. I think there will be a GE before any Article 50 triggering, and the outcome of a GE will basically be a binding result of either Leave or Fudge. What will happen if said outcome is a coalition is another matter, and chances are that is what we'll get as the country is pretty much split down the middle on this one.

  4. Portugal have been atrocious but they piss off the English so I'm all for it. Just a pity they didn't knock out the Queen's grovelling subjects on penalties.Still, they have a chance to do in some of her other subjects on Wednesday.  ;)

    In order of preference.

  5. Yeah, there are fundamental problems with BvS and I don't think it'll ever be better than average, but I'm willing to give it a shot if there is a bit more context and character development as both those things were missing in the original cut. Really, if it makes the central conflict more interesting and believable, then it has done its job. However, it is still a conflict that resolves via the most ridiculous bit of writing I've witnessed in a very long time and nothing can be done to fix that, just as nothing can be done to fix the unforgivable mid-film trailer (save taking it out entirely) and the rewriting of the central characters into cold blooded killers.

  6. So the BvS ultimate edition may actually be decent...

I'm willing to give it a shot, at least until the final showdown, at which point I will instead hold a bright torch in front of my eyes and flicker it on and off so I can at least experience the effect without having to contend with piss poor writing as well.

  7. Wales were terrific. Belgium looked disjointed but they were missing their best defenders tbf. Ramsey is a huge miss for the next match so I think the semi will be a step too far for Wales. Still, they have a great chance and can play like they have nothing to lose.

Really looking forward to tonight's match. Both teams with strong defences. Germany just have more quality so should win but I think it will go to penalties.

  8. Gestede is a decent player at our new level. Championship defences are just so poor, which is why it is essential that we sort out our own defence first and foremost. Get a solid spine then get a few decent attackers and we are laughing.

  9. He's very good but difficult so he never really had a popular appeal unlike some of his contemporaries. Very good on WWII and England. They released his collected in a massive tome called 'Broken Hierarchies' a few years back, but there is a smaller Penguin selected which you can get for a few quid. Certainly worth checking out. If you are interested in poetry but his own work is a bit much, then his Oxford lectures are online and worth a listen.
