If Xia had come in and said, "Give me four years and I can make us a solid, viable Championship club that can aim at the play offs from a firm footing" he'd have been hounded out of town or strung from a lampost.

if that's all he said then yes 100% i agree. if he elaborated and said "Give me four years and I can make us a solid, viable Championship club that can aim at the play offs from a firm footing OR we can go for promotion straight away but failure would result in crippling the club financially to the point that administration would be a very real possibility" then i doubt there would have been much stringing from lampposts going on

  2. i will always get it every year, but inevitably get bored...i've got villa to the most reputable club in the world, beat real madrid's record (5) of most consecutive champ league wins, and it just becomes dull. it's almost more fun when you're struggling. bring on FM2019 though...

Jareth, you forgot, you're not allowed to blame anyone at Villa unless you add a caveat blaming the owner as well.

That Mirror article reads like it's come directly from Wyness.

A few weeks earlier, Wyness, along with director of football Steve Round, had delivered a presentation to Xia at Bodymoor Heath, outlining the two courses of action that would be taken once Villa had qualified for the end-of-season lottery English football calls the play-offs.

Xia received the news. Didn't blink. Didn't move a muscle. Did not utter one single word.

The three-minute silence was eventually broken by Rongtien He, Xia's eyes and ears at Villa Park.

assuming wyness, round, TX and RH were the only ones in the room, this was written by either round or wyness...or it's BS...either is possible considering the source

Probably the best scenario based on current events.

If it means we can keep the likes of Jack, Chester etc and hopefully get a good coach in.

    We just might be ok.

Clubs have come through adversity before.

I mean look at the Brazilian team who lost their whole team in a plane crash ffs.

Came back and won the League.

different circumstances unfortunately (well, actually fortunately, could you imagine another tragedy like that) and they quite rightly had a fair amount of help to get them through things

a better comparison would be Southampton, but FFP wasnt so much of an issue back then

Why is there this clamour for the chairman to make a statement about Bruce?

If Bruce is staying, which I'm fairly sure will happen, why would Xia say anything?

It's probably business as usual at Villa once everybody has had a couple of weeks off. Just because we're not spoonfed information every day doesn't mean Bruce is sat there twiddling his thumbs not knowing if he's in a job or not.

exactly...if villa were to make a statement saying "Bruce will be our manager next season" it would certainly be the first time i've seen such a statement from any club...you assume they will be unless you see the skysports yellow bar saying they've been sacked

Are we supposed to assume then, that because we lost the playoff final, a national newspaper has decided to completely invent a story of a takeover? I just don't buy it!

With the current Abramovich situation, if ever there was a club to 'invent' stories of takeovers from a sensationalism point of view, then it would be Chelsea surely? I just don't see the merit of a national newspaper making something like this up? I could be completely wrong obviously, but instincts suggests something has or is currently going on. I read a tweet earlier that the consortium mentioned are not in the running, but another party could be, so who knows!

Do I think Xia has decided to sell up?...not sure.

Do I think he would if the right offer came in.....absolutely!

yes because a) that rag has history of totally inventing stories and b) because said rag has a history of disliking villa (and all other midlands clubs)

I think there is a misconception of how good our youngsters are. If they were good enough they would play. Grealish aside, Gardner is one of the most talented players too come out of our youth setup and even he struggled playing for us.

Ive no doubt some of our younger players will have decent championship careers similar to how Robinson has managed at Preston.

But I don’t think they are as good as we like to believe and even when given a chance will struggle to match the expectations of the fans.

well davis did well when he came in...o'hare and green too in their limited games. as for the others the jury's out cause we havent seen them at this level

We've talked all the way around whether we can get promoted with Bruce staying.

Perhaps it's time that we have a simple one word answer, so that we can see where opinion currently is on Bruce?

Can Bruce get us promoted next season .... Yes or no?

for me the answer is "not sure" but a certain "no" to AVFC getting promoted if we sack him...i dont think the club could cope with rebuilding the backroom as well as the playing staff sufficiently to challenge the top 6

i'm still bruce in...but lets see how the season starts - if he gets the youngsters in the first 18 (which we wont have a choice) and lets the reigns off them we might see some entertaining games

I've seen this a couple times and it makes ZERO sense.

Is he a Steve Bruce FC fan or Aston Villa Fan?

a young player will align himself to a manager that, he believes, is doing the best by him and his career. i believe the fact he's an AVFC fan is irrelevant if the club sack bruce and brings in a man that he doesnt know and/or trust. you can apply this to many organisations. any leadership course i go on say the same thing as to why people move roles: 90% of the time it's due to the manager (i get this isnt always the case in footy) but working well with your manager is half the battle in any line of work

One more year for Steve, and I think we will be there or there abouts again, in the mix. He has pissed me of no end, and we have blew a great opportunity, but he has brought a togetherness, he is a safe pair of hands and sometimes better the Devil you know. I have called for his head but he has brought some pride back to this club, and while he is here we will be fighting and have a squad giving 100%.

I think you start dicking around with managers in this league whilst cutting costs, then you are in massive trouble. There is a whole lot of shite out there. Leeds have had about 2 dozen since they went down.

I wanted us to play free flowing football, I wanted us to play on the front foot and go at teams, I wanted a manager who would do that (not Bruce)....but the time for all that has gone now, and if you're on a budget and scraping then Bruce is probably our man.

Time to roll up the sleeves.

    couldn't agree more

Very speculatively, i think we would also lose Jack if Bruce went, in light of recent interviews with him where he couldn't praise Bruce more for how he has helped his career...

  12. 2 hours ago, villa89 said:

Err no it won't. He'll be going there most probably to be an assistant coach and maybe a player coach working alongside a player/friend he played with for a decade. How on earth would that reflect badly on us?

He's no loss anyway, at 38 his time has come and gone.

there are plenty of players that we've let go and said "they aren't that great anyway" and it's been true...JT is not one of them in my opinion and will, on the contrary, be quite a loss

That’s just it in a nutshell though. You say it means nothing if we lose, but - in my view - it doesn’t mean nothing, it’s priceless, been missing for years, and isn’t just conjured up out of thin air. It is very very important and THE key reason it makes more sense to keep him than to start all over again.

This thing we loosely call ‘ team spirit’ has been absent from this Club for longer than I care to remember.

quoting from new manager speculation thread because it's already 20 pages too long and don't want to add to that...

i 100% agree with this and is why win or lose saturday we stick with bruce and keep at it. there will be some comings and goings as there is every summer but i do think the core spirit will remain. the smiles on the players faces on the training pitch is there to see and yes i know there will be an element of PR in that from the club, but i refuse to believe someone is there saying "come on boys, smile for the camera"...i don't remember a season where there has been so much positivity coming out of the club seemingly from all angles

    hiding in Fulhams clothing.....lol

    http://www.friendsoffulham.com/forum/index.php?topic=65424.280

Beware Villa fans looking for tickets on here, pretty obvious
They are all over this Forum, Villians hiding in Fulham’s clothing.
All coming on as new members and closet Fulham Supporters, ignore them otherwise it will end up with regret.

looking on that forum it should be more like: "beware fulham fans buying extra tickets with the view to making a few quid on resale sites then realising that there are so many they have no chance of selling so pretending my grandad now cannot make it, pretty obvious"

Does anyone think it'd be worthwhile trying to get tickets from touts outside Wembley on the day? I've lived on the outskirts of London for the last couple of years and haven't been able to get up to Villa Park this year, so I've got little chance of get any through the official channels.

you're better off getting yourself on twitter/facebook groups as there are sure to be a few floating about from fellow villa fans on the day

This is killing me - can't do any work at all, just sat refreshing twitter to see how many tickets have been sold.

I've managed to wangle an unused fan ID from a bloke I knew from school.

My only worry: I've added  his fan ID to my account, will that let me buy tickets with it or does he need to do anything to 'authorise' it? Also, if he logs on will he be able to buy tickets on my behalf too and could this mess it up if we both get through?

so i am reading that as that your account does not have booking history? in which case i believe it will NOT let you...you wont even have  a 'Buy' button to click. he will have to log in to his account and buy for you

We got fined 200k for the pitch invasion against the baggies

that was also due to invasions before final whistle and ripping up seats. i still refuse to believe they will hit shrewbury with a fine after they did it last sunday. anyway, lets agree to disagree, i don't do it but have no problem others doing it as long as it's in peaceful manner. blues showed us in the quarter final a few years back how to make it look small time by goading us rather than celebrating
