  1. People are forgetting that this guy has been our best defender for the best part of a year now. One or two bad games (straight after a bad injury) doesn't define him.

In the past, we've seen him let a bad game affect his confidence. Hopefully the Emery effect will see him bounce back.

  2. I think the bigger question is who replaces McGinn's defensive workrate when out of position. Tim will do an ok job beside Luiz but we've seen before that Tielemans can't do the defensive side of that role and Rogers is very much still learning the tactics etc.

I wonder if we could see Moreno in the McGinn role offering defensive cover to Digne.

  3. Isn't he on something like £250k p/w at Barca?

I think he's been pretty good since his slow start but I wouldn't be looking to sign him on a permanent deal. He's too old and too expensive for us now. Our transfer policy has changed

  4. Surprised there wasn't more talk about the development of the facilities inside Villa Park given the shear number of complaints about toilets, access to food/drink etc. It's all well and good looking at the hospitality section to increase the money but surely they can see that if the average punter can quickly buy a pie and a pint at half time then there is money to be made there.. and if they knew they didn't have to tip toe through a flooded toilet pre match, they might even go for a pie and a pint before the game!

  5. 45 mins against Forest proved enough for him. Same again against Luton.. start him, score 3 unanswered, take him off and put him in the hyperbaric chamber

Don't Nice have a buy option with Sanson loan?  He's doing quite well there, played in every league game, i'd imagine they'd activate the clause in the summer.

According to the below link, Sanson must start at least 17 Ligue 1 games for Le Gym and Nice must finish 8th or above in France’s top-flight.

Morgan Sanson nearing conditions to make OGC Nice move permanent - Get French Football News (getfootballnewsfrance.com)

So far he has started 19 games and Nice are 3rd in league so it's on track to be triggered

  7. Like people have said, we can knock VP down rebuild on roughly the same spot a la Spurs but its everything surrounding Villa Park itself that would be the blocker for that. It would have to be a Man City/Eastlands type of regeneration of Villa Park and the surrounding area and that would cost billions

i did this before, its probably wrong in some way, but helps visualise the salary savings we could achieve.

Just by offloading these, thats at least 840k per week.....per week!, or nearly 44m per year, unreal tbh.

obviously, we would need to then sign some players, but 3 players on 100k p/w, and another 2 on 50k p/w, is still only 400k p/w, so an overall saving of over 400k p/w.

I thought about whether Carlos could be up for sale but given he was signed for ?£26m on a 4-year-deal 2 years ago his book value would be £13m.. I don't see us making a big profit on him his summer

I don't see selling Cash as particularly likely. It's hard to see who would be interested in paying us a large fee for him, and selling him would continue the situation where we have only one senior RB, only this time it's a guy who's 19/20 and has never played a minute in English football. I think if it does happen we'll end up using a loan on a guy who can play both RB and RCB.

I think we will see a lot more of Konsa at RB next season if/when Mings is back.

Konsa/Mings/Torres/Moreno would possibly be the first choice defence.

Nedeljković, Carlos, Hermoso (who I agree I think we will sign.. pretty much a left sided version of Konsa) and Sousa would be the 'back ups'

If we do more than this it'll be a player like Cash sold and replaced, or Luiz sold and replaced etc..

I think Cash will go, the Serbian lad will be his likely replacement. That will probably be enough to tide us over (depending on sale price obviously).

The big question is the Kamara/Luiz cover. Hopefully we find a gem on a free

The challenge (as ever) is that how can you clear out "deadwood" and replace them with better players without there being a huge disparity between the funds you get coming out and the funds you need to spend to replace them.  We've struggled with squad depth this season and whilst a number of the players you mention haven't played any / many minutes - we do need to ensure that if we are playing CL or Europa League football next season we can rotate our players more.  There won't be as many matches where we can throw in some kids / backup players without them potentially being exposed.

I think the January transfer window did some of this for us -

    Olsen - Gauci signed

    Chambers - Nedeljkovic signed

Hause - Hasn't featured so no impact

    Lenglet - Mings back

Dendoncker - I imagine we will look to replace him

    Zaniolo - Buendia back

Coutinho and Sanson - Rogers signed.

The question is actually clearing them out but Monchi will do his thing.

Sanson likely to hit the targets that will make his loan permanent, hopefully Napoli take up Dendoncker option and Coutinho has been linked with Inter Miami
