On a side note, its been great to hear all about the hundreds of different elements that go into these kind of ideas/developments.
Not just as simple as 'We want to build a new stand" "OK, go ahead".

Problem is there are hardly any bars/pubs around Villa you would actually want to stay afterwards apart from the maybe the Barton Arms. As there are so few trains everyone makes a quick dash after the game to join the queue before it gets ridiculous. Most of the area around Villa is either housing, takeaways or light industrial units.
Agreed. Was thinking more long-term in that they could incorporate something with the new development plans. Like the sound of the box park idea too. This could have a similar impact

plus more people lingering instead of racing for the station etc.
Think this is where Spurs have done well with their stadium. There seems to be quite a bit for home fans to after the game - stay for a drink in the bar and watch other games etc. Fans don't seem to be in a mad rush to get the first tube/train/bus home which helps break up congestion etc.

I think Gomez comes with a 'home-grown' price premium ... but not £50m!

I think the Guilbert ship has sailed tbh. Think the issue was that he didn't fit in with the squad or settle into the culture of the club/country and just never really felt happy or that it was home. Don't think anything has really changed in that respect.
Perhaps now that another Frenchman in Sanson here, it might help him settle a bit more?

Anyone heading to the Charlton game tonight?
-
No mention of Nakamba's injury so he must be fit. I think he will go 4-3-3 at home.
Martinez
Cash / Konsa / Mings / Targett
Ramsey / Nakamba / McGinn
Buendia / Ings / Watkins
Not convinced Nakamba can play the role that Gerrard wants in that position but don't think he's got any other option. Would love him to stick one of the under 23's in that CM position and for them to have a worldie.
Got a good feeling about this game, think it'll be tight but we will win 1-0 or 2-0.

Sanson and Luiz unavailable for Brighton game
-
I agree but also think the he will release a few 'bigger' names (including Martinez ) and play a 'lesser' side in the last game against Bolivia which could very will include Buendia.

I like it. Can't wait to purchase it in the end of season sales

Well between this news, JT leaving, ROK leaving, JG leaving, failing to sign 2 top targets, several injuries and a loss to Watford, we’ve had better summers.
Leon Bailey…cheer us up! No pressure.
If you believe in random rumours, Leon is injured according to someone in the Bailey thread. So ....

Can we just stop trying to sign players with double-barrelled surnames please

Firstly, I was only talking about goals from non-deadball situations since that was Delphinho's question. Still, calling it damning may have been too harsh. What I meant to say was that almost all of his offensive output comes from deadball situations, whilst his actual offensive contribution in open play is rather minimal. His actual goal and assist total can be misleading at first glance because of this.
Secondly, even if you want to include dead ball situations I'd still say you should ignore penalties to which he scored 3 last season. He would've effectively only contributed 4 more goals than Mcginn last season then.
Thirdly, I don't buy into the "Imagine how much better this player would be if he played for a better team" arguments. I'll just say, football is rarely that simple and there have been many players who've failed to make the step up after being bought by a superior team just as there have been players who have succeeded.
Fourthly, Southampton drew 421 fouls last season compared to our 556 fouls. JWP scored 4 direct free kick goals and 3 assists from free kicks that season. That's 1 direct free kick goal every 105 fouls drawn and 1 assist every 140 fouls drawn. Very crudely and with a lot of assumptions, if he had played for us he would've gotten 5 direct free kick goals and 4 assists instead. Again, the calculations are very crude but the main point here is that despite drawing more than 100 fouls more than Southampton last season, if JWP's free kick goal and assist rates remained constant(and a whole lot of otehr assumptions), he would only have 1 more goal and 1 more assist.
Lastly, Bailey won quite a lot of fouls last season but still no where near to the level of Grealish obviously.
Do you have a stat for the amount of goals scored/assisted from direct free kicks for us from last season?
If JWP can give us an extra 8-10 goals a season from free-kicks, they could prove crucial to our league position.
In terms of the £40-50m price tag, if we can afford it and not mess up FFP, go for it. Transfer fees are only going up.

Hopefully we see a reaction at the weekend v Newcastle.
I do wonder if there was a lack of defensive preparation that would have been done by JT? Hopefully they can get his replacement in quickly.
Think we need to start with the formation (and line-up) we finished with. Looked a different animal. Maybe bring Luiz in for Nakamba if he is available.
Good to see the management team recognise the issues and make changes early. Also good to now have the depth to be able to do this! Bench options look very good and have Watkins to come back.
Excited to see if Ramsey can perform like that on a consistent basis this season, could be an breakout season.
As for the doomsday merchants on here - give your heads a wobble and please get behind the team at Villa Park and don't boo them every chance you get.
-
For me i'd go:
Captain - Mings
Vice captains - McGinn and Martinez
-
Traore himself only has one pre-season game under his belt. I'd be surprised if he started.
Think JPB might get the nod personally.
-
Based on the teams that finished above us last season; Leeds haven't really added anyone, Everton could struggle, Spurs could struggle if they lose Kane, Arsenal are a wildcard atm but i think we can get above them. West Ham will have Europa League to contend with so could struggle.
Big chance for us to push on and get top 6

Don't get what the issue is here. Just sounds like people getting on his back for the sake of it. Hopefully the people commenting will also be having a go at Cash, Konza, McGinn etc. for their social media posts.

Hopefully this ends up as much a success as Grealish's loan move to Notts County
-
Only Kane, Salah, and Vardy have scored more goals than Ings in the last two seasons.
£25-30m for Ings seems like a big of a bargain

Perhaps the £30m includes add-ons?

Matheus Pereira on his way to Al Hilal according to Fabrizio Romano

If Chelski are after Lukaku then they will surely need to free up money for the move. Can see them dropping the £40m asking price down to £30m to get a quick sale
-
Maybe Grealish has said he won't move until Kane moves, City have bid, Spurs rejected and Kane is not happy.
Either that or its more Sky Sports clickbait rubbish! (far more likely)

Gerrard wants two quality players for each position. If we get Bentancur then he has his wish -
McGinn - Luiz
Bentancur - Nakamba
Ramsey - Sanson
We also have Chukwuemeka but i'm not sure if he's belongs in the centre midfield category or the attacking midfield category.
