I think it’s a risk personally. Certainly need another striker in my opinion. I still don’t particularly rate Davis either. Ok as a sub I suppose but starting games in the PL? Not for me.

Watkins will start all games with Davis as sub and Traore as cover... Then there is Wesley to hopefully come back at some point and cost 22m..

Are we really gonna pay all that money for Edouard to sit on the bench, or move Watkins to the wing when it all points to him being purchased as a striker?

it’s unlikely we will play 2 up front and is unlikely we are buying this dude even though he does look a player for sure

But we aren’t repeating that mistake we have Watkins, Wesley, Samatta, Davis, Traore and possibly Rashica.

As soon as 40m was mentioned this had no legs in it if it even ever did. We got our striker In Watkins and one that we are all happy with. I can’t see anyone else coming in as Davis will get another chance this season, if anyone does come in then I suspect it would be more like a Brewster type player at half the price being touted for Edoaurd..

40m to sit on the bench, I just can’t see this is happening

    On what sorry?

Oh, Rashica, right... I've always thought it was a load of codswallop myself.

That makes 2 of us but I am more than happy to be proven wrong... It does smell like complete BS though

    That's incredibly harsh on Steer.

I think he is good enough to play in the Premier League

Absolutely, in a relegation candidate. Not in a team that wants consistent top 10 finishes in the coming years.

I have to agree with Villalad on this one as always felt that apart from Heaton he was our best keeper of recent times, including Reina.

he may not be  top 10 material if you are trying to push for Europe but gets some unjust criticism from some ...

Reina did ok but was more a name to give confidence and command the back four....

I’m pretty sure Percy released an article earlier today stating we will still be after a winger and a striker after traore

That’s all well and good but after last nights display we clearly need a CB for at least the squad depth, maybe even a starter if we have the money.
And even more important has to be a LB as we currently only have Targett who is good but has some flaws ( personally I do like the lad, he tries hard and works well the Jack so in a better team could push on another level this season) .. But who else do we have that can play there as Taylor is clearly a mid table championship level player.

    Yes i did.

But we have to support anyone wearing the villa shirt right?

No we don’t have to but let’s not hang someone like Traore before they even pull on the shirt based on someone else’s opinion when it is so obviously from a skewed and biased view point.

Bruce was given a fair crack by most ,despite the glaring reason not to, until he made us all hate football with his ineptitude and with his repeated after match nonsense we had to listen too. Even now I can’t stand to listen to him speak.

I personally have some concerns on this one in regards to it being a gamble but I think he has shown enough for me to have a reasoned belief in him becoming a success if he can get the right support and coaching.

    Hopefully.

Nothing is a given in this game but securing a player like Jack Grealish is a statement of intent.

The owners will really do everything they can to make us successful. Are they able to do it remains to be seen.

You are so negative it is truly hilarious, you even manage to spin a negative on the back of a club legend penning a new contract.

Do you know there are support services out there that can help people like you... unbelievable

If there ever is the greatest example of being held at ransom, this would be it.

20 million for Bertrand Traore is a robbery. Great potential of being the worst signing of the season.

We get it mate, you don’t rate him..

doesn’t matter how many ways you say it it won’t change a thing.... hmmmm unless the Villa board are double checking for your permission before they sign 🤔

He does have the potential to improve on what we have so although I think the price is too high it may just have to be the price we need to pay to improve. Let’s  face it when you look at our business it’s all been overpriced, maybe it’s got something to do with the fact we have been shit for years and just survived in the prem by the skin of our teeth and the help of a blatant VAR eff up. Couple that with teams knowing we have money to spend we end up getting stung by high prices or have to walk away.

We love the Villa but outside of our blurred vision of greatness we offer no history to the players out there now so instead have to sell our dream to them, a dream that you may call potential which is exactly what it appears we are also recruiting on and thus brings us back round to Traoré who is a player that obviously has the skills, maybe this will be his time to shine but if it’s not we deal with it and move on as every other team has to do.

Do you have a crazy statement randomiser? There's no end to you finding some bullshit angle to appear hysterical about.

Now you're using evidence some people on Villatalk (probably you tbh) choosing to randomly apportion blame to Terry/Suso even though none of us really know what's going on, and then there's all the context of the season. Now that's your evidence. What actually goes on in your head?

Just realised that by liking this I have made another troll happy by seeing how much his bullshit hurts everyone’s heads...

oh the double edged sword of rising to the bait

It doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a better idea than average joe. He would have known about him as an opposition player, and obviously knows the staff at Chelsea to get their opinion.

Can we keep the weak assumptions out of this when there are no legs in this theory...

JT did however play with Traoré so this does give some confidence that he knows him well enough to offer an opinion on his personality and work ethic.. What we can only surmise is what that opinion may have been and wether this was taken on board.

Wasn't good personalities and characters so important for Smith?

According to Lyon fans this guy has got attitude problems. Not much of this signing makes sense.

Said Benrahma who had 17 goals and 9 assist last season is available and has been all summer. And we choose to pay 19 million for this guy?

Watkins was a great start and 2 steps forward for the club. We are taking 2 steps backwards with this signing.

Where the feck is my yawn emote ....

    oh here it is 🥱

He’d be wanted by “bigger clubs” in that case, would be in high demand. Now is a good opportunity to get a deal like this done and get a young player with form & huge potential.

What I like most about Edouard is his technique and range of finishing, he would be a great asset and is still young (only going to improve and has a high ceiling).

I’d be pleasantly surprised if we got him as I assumed we signed Watkins as first choice CF but who knows what the club are planning and just how much they can spend? Maybe the tactic is to spend big on players with fairly modest wages... kind of evens out then and a much more sensible and sustainable approach. The fact that we are trying to sign younger players on an “upward trajectory” is really exciting and will stand us in good stead.

Rashica and another winger or WF would be great. Martinez will finally sort our GK position out for the long term. Watkins may well play wide or interchange then...

It will be amazing to have genuine squad depth and competition too...

Who knows how many players we will be signing and what we will spend? The press & “ITKs” simply have no idea...

I’m glad to see that those in charge are not pissing about & realise that the squad needs major improvement to be competitive in the league rather than scrap for survival...

Intent is being demonstrated, exciting times indeed...

The only caveat I can put to this is that squad depth, especially at such high prices, brings its own problems to deal with, pressures which so far DS has not really had due to the ineptitude of previous owners and managers.

He will need to find his best team while keeping everyone happy and without any detriment to the growth of each player. If he succeeds at that this season then we hopefully go again but with greater pressures.

Having Shakespeare in should bring much needed experience plus JT having recent knowledge from the other side will help.

With all the potential pitfalls aside I can feel my blind Villa optimism drowning me already, this feels different to how we have previously gone about our business In regards to the time spent on each transfer, it has a calculated business mannerism which can only be a good thing as we start on a much more professional and strategic path...
