Oh What a night

The thing is, that interview before the game he did with amazon it's like he knew what was coming. I've never been as convinced by a player when talking pre match, he was absolutely assured and confident and was hinting at a big night. Absolutely at the top of his game, brilliant.

An unintended benefit of the high line is it keeps the back 4 and midfield switched on and focused it for the full 90. The midfield know they have to press the ball every time or the whole thing goes tits up and the back 4 have to always be perfectly in position.
When you play deeper you have more of a safety net and players can switch off more individually and get away with being a bit more lax at times. That starts individually and can become contagious to the whole side eventually. With the high line if you mess your individual bit up it's glaring obvious and so it keeps u honest.

Guess there’s only so many times it can be said in various ways “that was good, I approve”.
Emery currently on 492 pages (joined us 24th October 2022, so a year and a bit now).
Comparative pages after 1 year of thread being opened -
Smith thread 692 pages
Bruce thread 1125 pages
Gerrard thread 1254 pages (not quite 1 year in charge)
I think the difference in page numbers generated for a thread gives a fairly good indication to the validity of not so good results leading to more discussion and subsequently how each of those managers are (and were) perceived.
And just for those who want to wistfully think “Ah what could have been…”
Sherwood 850 pages after 8 months
Di Matteo 209 pages after 4 months
That's exactly it, nothing to complain about.
As I said at the turn of the year:

Dare we say, Cooper done a job on Emery today, or do we fully just blame the half arsed players.
Two goals from outside the box and create **** all else. The offside trap has looked like the enigma code to them. They are shite, just strong and negative and work hard.

I remember last season v Forest away we had all the ball never looked like scoring and brought the Donck on that was it

We just melt under physicality. We don't have that profile of player.

Baileys been alright

Just gonna bury this in the match thread rather than have it in the player thread. MATT CASH IS SHITE
-
Awful from Martinez and Cash acting like Harry Toffolo is Mbappe
-
Zaniolo man, someone needs to tell him it's not street football

Not arsed with Carragher's comments. Quite understandable how other fans and pundits would be ignorant to unique structure and accommodations that have been made for Emery. I mean most fans still seemingly still have no idea how much money our owners have.
The internal pessimistic just hates all the attention and focus just before this crucial run. Its always feels a little too early, like its setting us up for a fall. If we are still there in December then fair enough,, unavoidable, but now we have this little gap to 6th, I feel like this stretch of games into December is massive. Particularly the two winnable ones we have next. I just want us to be under radar until then.

People who don't rate Pau Torres passing have pressed X too many times on Fifa. Those passes might look like a piece of piss on the TV but from the CB position where you don't have the vantage of seeing the full pitch and you have the full 10 in front of you its insanely difficult to see and make the pass quick enough. From CB is so hard to gauge the space the midfielder/attacking has and the pass has to be so quick and accurate if its being played in the middle of the pitch. As a skill, it's a totally different level to playing passes over the top or chipped over to the full backs and obviously does so much more damage as players get the ball into feet in more central areas which turns the opposition.
We are free scoring now because either Luiz or Kamara can start further up the pitch and don't have to drop back into our half to receive from the CBs start us off. That is one thing you can appreciate though from the Upper Trinity or Doug and the first thing that hits you this season watching us play, it was v Everton the first game when you could see the difference it makes to the shape off the ball and how we can have these players start 10 yards further up the field and its why we can have the likes of Zaniolo/Diaby stay so close to Watkins. I half put it down to Everton being shite that day then but its been the same ever since.

I was there that evening as well 21 years ago. . Thanks for the write up on Borland. Whats he like physically? He is a box 2 box midfielder but is he a decent size already. Does he have pace and strength to go with his skill ? I keep on imagining a bit of a mcginn dynamo.
It was hard to gauge from the time he was on the pitch, he's thin like most of them but seemed a decent height and full of running (although the way the game was at that point 2nd half with us bossing it you didn't get to see too much box to box). More a technical type, his sharpness and quick footedness on the ball and seeing the pass meant he never really had to get into any physical battles the time he was on the pitch.

Just got back from the game. 2nd half they were excellent, played some brilliant football but just lacked the prescence you need in the box which is to be expected but they bossed it and were playing some really technical stuff. Lovely triangles, one twos and inventiveness to get around the Charlton midfield. First half they kept the ball well to be fair but just struggled with the off ball stuff.
Aidan Borland who came on 2nd half looked really good. Looked him up and he's only 16 signed from Celtic at 15 for over a mill. He just looked class and played some lovely stuff with O'Reilly. Broggio and Munroe were also very good coming off the bench in the 2nd half.
First time feeling very old today..seeing Stephan Moore's son playing for the Villa and scoring against Charlton. 21 years after seeing his dad score against Charlton on his Villa debut.

Now let's **** boss this game
-
Awful.
Literally all they have is a set piece and counter. Wtf was Luiz doing. Ffs playing wolves is infuriating, they are shite and it's always the same story.
-
Might be a bit humiliating but surely training we can just do sessions where we put Diego and Konsa on Ollie and Diaby and just fire 100s of passes into to them to trap
-
Don't blame Lange, how are you supposed to have training sessions that sharpen you for the rigours and technical level of the premier league when you're up against or having to play alongside Henri Lansbury. Angela Lansbury had more mobility.
