  1. As a neutral observer and having only seen the highlights on motd - I thought that there was definite contact on Grealish by Cahill. A free-kick should have been awarded at the very least. And as for the disallowing of the goal - well, it was an utter disgrace. That was a goal - full stop. If Liverpool had been denied that last gasp equaliser me and my mates would have been absolutely fuming - guaranteed... My sympathies go out to you Villa fans. Don't know if that makes you feel any better but just wanted you guys to know my view... All the best, Andy.
  2. From an outsider looking in and only watching MOTD, I thought that Heaton's foul was totally needless. Why couldn't he have just guided the ball out? My guess is that Villa must have been quite nervous. Wilson's goal was a super strike and took a wicked deflection but from what I can gather he is always liable to try from that sort of range and i'm surprised that Klopp let him go back out on loan but that's by the bye. That Luiz strike was just fantastic and shows promise for your boys. I'm sure that if you keep creating the chances - like you also did at Spurs, then the points will come. Believe or not when I wrote one of my in-frequent LFC accounts last season I said that I hoped Villa went up as this division never seems the same without you - even though you have a devilishly tidy recent record at Anfield against us! As for VAR - that decision against Man City was ridiculous - though I was not complaining - of course. Let's hope for everyone - like supposedly penalties, they'll even themselves out over the course of a season. Andy
  3. Hi, thank you again boys, just brilliant... Can you remember much about the game - like what was the atmosphere like - it must have been buzzing?? Was you queuing for hours to get in? Did anyone you know travel to the second leg? I was only joking when I said I did not know who the other guy was!! I recall years ago reading that Bill Shankly did not know who Cryuff really was when Liverpool played Ajax in 1966-67 but he did soon enough after they thrashed us 5-1 in the fog! I am just too young to recall seeing that great Dutch side - as the 1982 World Cup in Spain was first real one for me - seeing the best Brazilian side ive ever seen - I wonder how, Socrates, Eder, Falco etc would have fared v that Cryuff Dutch team... Once again, Thank you all, Villa fans, you've been brilliant and if you are going to Spurs tomoz, have a good journey and day. Andy
  4. Thank you very much for the photos! Not sure who the guy in the blue n purple top is!!! lol Andy
  5. Just got to say, love the little story of DaveAV1 and going to the match with his dad - that made me chuckle and i'm not offended at all. Again, I can't thank all you Villa fans enough - you've been just brilliant... I've got a file of stuff now - as I've raided various sites and my collection of footy books as I try and understand the make-up of the teams Leighton played for and I've not even started on his Welsh career yet! Just been on you tube and there is very little on there to see your side of the late 70's - am I missing something? Seen about a min clip when you did us at Anfield in 78 and not much else. Just waiting for a book off e-bay now which will give me every game he played for you and hopefully lots more besides, called 'Aston Villa The Complete Record' from the time you were formed to 1988. I love books like that! By the way, anyone recall the 2 games versus Barcelona by chance? Anyhow, all the very best Andy
  6. Thank you very much, that would be brilliant! Believe it or not I've collected near enough every Liverpool match report form 1986/87 and I just wish I had when I was much younger, as they would help now i'm sure. Andy
  7. I love it when fans start talking about old matches and players - no matter what team it is... I am even more glader now that I've asked you all for your help! Andy
  8. That would be just fantastic! Thank you ever so much indeed... Andy
  9. Thank you all, very, very much. It is just fab to hear all the little stories and anecdotes. It really does mean a lot to me. Please keep them coming if possible. Many, many thanks Andy Phillips
  10. Hi guys and any ladies, I have joined your forum in the real hope that you can just maybe, hopefully, help me. What it is, I am trying to research the career of my second cousin, on my grand-father's side, Leighton Phillips. Leighton is from Briton Ferry, the same as my dad and they were cousins From my research I can see that Leighton played for your great club and I would very, very much like any memories of him, any anecdotes, and to just maybe be able to tell me what he was like as a player? I believe he actually captained your famous club but I don't know any dates. Any info at all you can give me would be very much appreciated. Especially the time when Villa won 5-1 v Liverpool and also 2-1 at Anfield - circa late 70's, amongst other, no doubt, note - worthy games. When I was a young boy Leighton passed on a black and white photo of Villa, through my auntie Ena, but sadly, I don't know where it is now.. I love footballer and I have supported Liverpool for years but this is something which I have always wanted to do and now is as good as time as any. Anyhow, all the best, Thanks for reading, Andy Phillips
