It's always fascinating to read what opposition fans think and it's interesting how so many people can watch the same game and have different views on what happened. From my perspective we got hit with an early counter attack goal and then Villa parked the bus quite successfully and we had no answer to it (and not for the first time - our lack of guile when teams defend deep is nothing new and you're not the first team to exploit this weakness). Poch admitted the first half was "his fault" as the formation wasn't quite clear and he sorted this at half time. To be fair we had 7 first choice players missing and fielded an 11 who had never played together before so I suppose it was to be expected. Our success in the second half was purely down to the change in formation and our fitness. Still can't get used to being referred to as "Champions League Finalists" - that does feel weird. Even though yesterday we only started 6 players who played in the final.

It's great to have a big club like Villa back in the Premier League. I think some in this thread are being over critical - you've got some good players and we were properly tested yesterday. I can't see you having any problems staying up if you play with that commitment and attitude for the rest of the season.

Its amazing to think for so long we were ahead of you in the league. Then you guys bought Van Der Vaart and suddenly you shot up the table. He was always the difference in our games then we just plopped.

We were mocking (lads watching the game) Ndombele as he was a little confused but once he got the goal he looked like he was a £65million player. Harry Kane is the best forward along with Mbappe in the world. RonMessi don’t count.!

If you keep Eriksen you will challenge for the title.

  2. I want to see us press them the way Dean Smith’s Brentford pressed us when they beat us. I have yet to see this at Villa. I also want more possession than Bournemouth.

If we get that then I’ll be happy for the season ahead. I will take a point.

  3. I think people should be allowed to have their opinions without people trying to bait them and having digs at them.

Me personally am more disappointed with the referee. El-Ghazi didn’t dive you numpty he had a clear run or shot on when he got bumped. Mcginn penalty was 50-50 but his shirt was pulled enough for him to lose momentum. His shirt isn’t pulled I believe he has an easy shot at goal.

Grealish was clearly fouled for their goal. Spurs dominated exactly like Leipzig did but for longer than they managed.  But the decisions could have changed the flow of the game.

The strength of our players though was poor. They got muscled off it too easily throughout the game. They need to improve this fast , same with fitness. If we stay up then we need to have pre-seasons with the likes of Leipzig, Napoli, Celta Vigo etc teams who will physically and technically outplay us but strengthen us. Then we can nick some of their better players. Running rings around Walsall and Shrewsbury is not good preparation.

I liked the way Van Der Vaart and Reo-Coker spoke about us very eloquent and balanced.  Also after yesterday I would look in to bringing in Ribery or Sturridge on a short term deal. Ribery because he is a legend and the players will learn so much from him and Sturridge because he can on a short term basis provide competition and a genuine option for us. His finishing is still lethal. Then we can revisit our targets in January.

We Have to stay up. Relegation is not an option.

McGinn is quality and should definitely have had a penalty when their player just flattened him.

And if not a penalty a definite free kick because the guy whom got robbed by McGinn held his shirt long enough to make sure Mcginn didn’t get to the ball comfortably.

  5. He showed enough to suggest he’ll be fine at this level. Decision making was a bit off at times. In the first half he made a good move whereby he got in between the rb and cb but was fouled referee gave a free kick for diving against him. One step further and he was clean through shocking decision. The referee was a donkey.

  6. He improved as the game wore on. His touch technique is there his passing was good at times poor at other times. The communication is what hindered him yesterday a couple of times he played it behind Trezeguet due to communication.

A few times I noticed him telling the players to push up. He did especially in the first half go down too easily but there were a few instances where he scythed down and the F referee just laughed or waved it on. Corrupt officials!

Had Trezeguet squared it when he had that chance Wesley might have scored.

  7. I think the second half needed fresher legs sooner. But too many of the players got tired. The one alarming thing for me was the difference in physical strength. They bullied us physically at times.

The coaches need to get this addressed asap. Maybe get a few rugby strength and conditioning coaches. If not then some of those strongmen can toughen our boys up. 😂 💪🏼

Some 8 year olds colouring book I imagine. Absolutely ridiculous 'link'.

Whoa whoa whoa . 8 year olds and colouring books.????

There has been talk recently of a mystery forward that we are allegedly working on. With his playing style and our style of play Werner be a good fit. He has a £52million (ish) release clause and his contract is up next season. Hardly 8 year olds and colouring books. I said ‘I hope he is the mystery mega signing we are working on if we are’.

8 year olds and colouring books. Bah humbug!

Thought that was Diego Demme the No. 31. Werner is so average though, one of most overhyped players about

I know we’re not getting Werner but he isn’t average. 37 games and 19 goals in all competitions with 10 Assists is good going especially for a 22 year old.

Year before he got 21 in 45 (all competitions) with 10 assists. And the season before that he got 21 in 32 with 7 assists.

    Consistency.

Isn't Timo Werner that hitlerjugend looking rocket polisher from the match today who was acting all tough to Grealish? Think it ended with Mings and Werner getting a yellow card

Yep. Im sure they can have a laugh about it after Werner sets up Grealish for the winner next week. Boys will be boys eh. 😂

    Eh?

    what are you on about?

If we signed Messi would I not be able to point out how much better he is than el ghazi?

Steer’s feelings aren’t getting hurt. Heaton is a much better keeper and it was already obvious from today’s game. That’s all I’m saying.

I don’t see what’s so bad about that? I’m not insulting Steer.

In addition I believe Steer will improve by having a top top class keeper like Heaton around. If he doesn’t then point proven.

Being put into the conversation of the elite and established managers in his short experience. In this tactical analysis, we will explore how there is no better project Julian Nagelsmann could have taken up than the one with Red Bull Leipzig.

Excellent article on what we had to face today. Im pretty sure they’ll be doing this for Dean Smith soon enough.

  13. On a serious note - positioning is where his weakness is imo. He didn’t get roasted by their winger. His passing is okay and he is quicker than he looks.

I am not worried about him. He will be fine.
