This is it isn't it. He hasn't been getting great service for the most part being his conversion of chances needs to be at a very high rate. He's doing pretty well so far.

Agreed he is averaging a little over 2 shots per game and only 14 passes. We need to get the ball to his feet more so he can link up play.

He has quite a few unsuccessful touches but I think that is because we don't play very good balls so he is still fighting for position but the time the comes down for him to control.

To be fair 4 goals in 9 games for our main striker isn't bad at all, even more so considering he should be able to develop and improve.

What i find better tbh is that we aren't reliant on one player currently to score, Grealish, Mcginn, hourihane and el Ghazi are all chipping in, and overall that's what we need, we did say at the start of the season we would need to spread the goals around to stay up, and currently we are doing that.

I much prefer the goals to be spread like that than the seasons where benteke was pretty much out only goal threat and we were entirely reliant on him for goals, it's nice to habe a few players capable of being a threat and those players actually delivering some goals.

Also i wouldn't underestimate Wesley helping that by his slightly deeper play, pulling players with him etc.

The reason why lambert got fired was because benteke wasn't scoring and we continued to be crap elsewhere.

Not absurd if you watch him play. el Ghazi is rubbish in 75% of the matches he plays.
If he could play like he did in the playoff final more often, I'd be saying he should start.

Him and Wesley are the weaklinks in our team in the moment and the club will address it in Jan when we sign a winger and a striker.

El ghazi is good in 1/4 games, alright 1/2 the time and bad 1/4 of the time. However he is special 1/10 games and when he is special he is the best player on the pitch and will score screamers and get brilliant assists.

This is the danger with a purely analytical view of football matches. xG is an interesting statistic but it feels incomplete in many ways. Manchester City regularly outperform their xG, because they're clinical and the kind of chances they create often can't be captured merely by on pitch position alone. It's a fun snapshot and something that should peak interest but you have to actually watch the games as well, which these lot clearly haven't been.

As for Nakamba being 'awful' on the ball, maybe we're not asking him to be anything other than a basic bish? Again, eye test needed. He looks fine to me. When he is adventurous he is super adventurous, hence the 84% success rate. Which is fine for a player who we're not asking to be Xavi.

Man City and Liverpool will regularly outperform their XG because they have a very high quality keeper an excellent attacking players but it is based on the average player taking that shot and for most prem teams including us over the course of a season it will likely only be off by 1 or 2 goals.

Luke Shaw surely has a spot when fit and back from injury?

Yeah for 3 games and then is back out with an Injury. I guess Ashley Young as well but targett has looked quality for us and clearly provides more of an attacking threat than Bertrand. Plus Southgate likes to play youngish players so the team can be prepared for a couple of years for the future.

he isnt the best but he is better than that waster Rose

Chilwell is probably better than him but who else is Southgate going to play Bertrand? I'm pretty sure every other prem left back is from another nation.

At 24, he's at a pivotal point in his career. His only real weakness seems to be the mental side of the game, as he can definitely lose focus and confidence but he does work hard for the team and I think he's keen to develop as a player as much as possible. Consistency often comes with experience and this is his first jaunt in the prem - I think with his attitude and the coaching team around him, he'll get better. Worst case scenario is that he's squad rotation/an impact sub in a year or so.

I agree he works hard. He has lapses in concentration but whenever he loses the ball he always works to try and win it back and  whenever the ball is between him and the goal he presses I just think he loses concentration after the ball is passed around him.

Versus Trez who has done a whole lot of nothing much. 5 goal involvements in 9 games would average out about 20 for season which would be amazing. El Ghazi stick is nonsense

El ghazi has only played 8 games and has come on as a sub in one. So it translates closer to 22 or 23 if you expect him to start all of the rest of the games bar one or 2. Which would translate to 36 games on the season which I assume you were suggesting.

You don't get extra windfall from winning via playoff vs getting promoted. It's called richest game in football because of expected earnings in PL + TV money. Norwich and Sheffield already had that expected earnings via promotion

Too be fair I bet the playoff final probably is quite a rich game but it isn't 100mil rich. It may be 1-2extra mil for each participant.

I do think AEG blows hot and cold as well - some games he can be magnificent (a "8/9") and others he is carried (a "4/5" like this weekend).  Maybe that is the nature of wide players although I think there are numerous examples of PL wide men that are more consistent.

I was pleased we signed AEG - £8m (or whatever) is a snip in the current market for a player at his level.  However, I was hoping he was going to be first change for Benrahma and another on the opposite side - I hoped Trez would be that latter player (he still might be?!).  Obviously, Jack has now moved up to the LW and looks imperious in that position and should stay there so we are looking for someone to hold down the RW.

I still feel this way about AEG.  I like him as back up but don't feel that he is yet consistently good enough to be a starter in a good PL team.  If I look around our team, assuming we stay in the PL, no-one comes through strongly over the remainder of the season and we don't lose anybody, I would think the areas we need to strengthen next summer are: two full backs to replace Elmo and Taylor and compete with Targett and Guilbert; someone to replace Jack in the midfield three (assuming Jack stays at inside left); a striker to compete (maybe January!) and a right winger.

No player in our price range will be a good consistent pl winger. For that it is 50+ mil I also don't think anyone we can sign for under 30 can match el ghazi on a good day. If he is on he is Ronaldo lite but will pass.

Yeah the guy was asking left backs. But yeah the one vs. Stoke was unreal, and so important

Pretty sure Lowton played as left back for us a couple of times. Classic villa playing player out of position.

I've not read the last few pages so can't comment on exactly what you're referring to, but from my point of view, I'm not saying I'm sold on the kid, just saying that with the frustratingly inconsistent El Ghazi for competition I think he should maybe be given a run of a couple of games.

That is the problem really and why el ghazi won't be dropped. El ghazi is too inconsistent to drop because one game he will have a stinker like against Brighton the next he will curl 2 in top the top corner and put a peach of a ball in for one of our players to tap in.

El ghazi also had great runs off the ball whereas trez looks a bit aimless. If you compare Jack's counter from a corner against spurs and Brighton our Brighton one looked more dangerous because el ghazi made the right run. Against spurs trez was essentially running parallel with a defender and when he switched his run he was way to late to be played through.

That 6'2 was just Dion Dublin talking dube-ious bollocks.

Jack's "official" height is 1.75m which is 5'9. Add the hair on and he's about 5'11. (I imagine the confusion is because 1.75m = 5.7 feet, but there are 12 inches in a foot.)

But yes you can't trust athlete's heights. They tend to inflate them for obvious reasons - and probably, like the rest of us, because it looks better on Tinder.

His hair is actually very flat and you can tell he actually looks quite tall compared to a lot of players. That might just be because he is thin but he looks like he is 2 or 3 inches taller than trez who is 5'8-9"

    Link?

And what's defined as a shot?

FPL tracks shots and has deemed that he has taken 19 shots and scored 4 goals. Conversely mcginn has taken 30 shots and scored 3 goals but I don't see anyone jumping on his back about poor finishing.

    Can't see this at all.

He's messy and awkward. Right now he can improve hugely on absolutely everything. His shooting is incredibly annoying. Scuffs 90% of efforts.

Literally scored over 20% of his shots. Against Brighton he had 2 shots 1 which was on the turn and was a at a shit angle the other I don't remember.

For me he will be our most important player vs City. Considering they will probably play fernandinho and rodri at the back. He needs to be strong and physical and make them regret playing two smaller and weak midfielders at centre half.

From my recollection Given was terrible for us! And played second fiddle to a resurgent Guzan most the time?

He was good for 2 years. Friedels last season and the season before guzan really stepped up.

Some people doubted him, I can't say I had a lot of faith in him when he first came. I then asked my friend (who's Fulham his second team, a season ticket holder), he told me good things about him.

I don't want to go so far, but I was discussing today about who did we have a better keeper than Heaton? back to Bosnich days?

We had Amavi, Bertrand (although loan). Who else?

To be honest, I didn't notice the importance of goal keeping and FB's until lately.

This season gave us a lesson already about how useful could the fullback be.

We saw during the Kyle Walker days some of what could happen.

But look at today? Guilbert assist, Targett goal.

Friedel, Guzan and Shay Given in my opinion all were better keepers for us than Heaton has been so far. I think he has made one really quality save and that was connolys against Brighton. Guzan had a season where he and benteke basically kept us up by themselves.

    The what now?

Maybe he means the qualis for Europe with mings, grealish, mcginn, engels. I also wouldn't be too surprised to see targett get a look in over rose, guilbert to be called up to France seeing as they play pavard right back and el ghazi being called up to the Netherlands seeing how crap they are.
