I couldn't stand Westwood absolutely farcical player who offered absolutely nothing.

I cant remember him playing for Villa but i saw him last season with Burnley in 10-15 games and he was standout player in most of this game along with Dwight Mcneil and Johann Gudmundsson.I think his caliber of player would be more than great in this Premiership battle.

Well Smith has said he wants to try to win games, not to just defend. That's why I was putting some doubt in my message.

Sorry about the tone in my message :) Im not sure about his idea regarding formation but i guess he will be playing two systems and i think it would be good to have at least two extra dcm in the squad.

Well you aren't being logical yourself.

He literally couldnt deal with the championship, he showed nothing and to be honest looked a bang average championship player.

There is nothing really to argue about, he won't be in the first 11 and is almost certain to not even be a backup unless multiple people are injured in one position.

No amount of saying he's prem class is going to get him in that first team or even close to it, that's the logic of the situation I am afraid.

I have never say that he is going to/should be in starting 11 or that he is going to be in the squad. What i have been saying is that his ability as a football player fits better in Premier league than Championship. There is huge difference between this league and players who has done well Premiership have vanished in Championship league due to totally different football. Player with his experience is much more valuable in Premier League than Championship. Birkir was in the middle along with Gylfi Sigurdsson in Iceland win over Turkey for three weeks ago and they where MOM by far. Turkey won World champions France three days earlier. If you put this in some kind of context to high quality international player and player who has change of playing some role in Villa squad than he must have at least tiny change.

If we're playing somewhat more defensively next season, there could be some role for Birkir. I'm just thinking of Iceland and the way they play... I don't know, just a thought.

What kind of football do you think will be played other then defensively? newly promoted team who will (or at least should) be aiminig towards keeping their spot in the league.

    Thor.

    is that you?

No, why do you think this is Thor? Is it because im telling you guys that he is one of few current player who has experience at highest level in football which will be very valuable in the Premiership? Please answer this if you have something logical to say.

But plenty of players with attitude problems get chances at bigger clubs. Balotelli, Memphis Depay, even Ravel Morrison got a chance at Lazio. But Shelvey has never kicked on and never got further than a mid-table Newcastle side.

Maybe he’s better than I’m giving him credit for, but to say that he’s ‘one of the best on his day’, has that huge caveat that ‘his day’ comes once in a blue moon.

He played with Liverpool for 3 or 4 years and was starting a lot of games an played very well. But he had this attitude problems wich was not accepted by the club.

His football brain is second to none but I have heard him in interviews many a time, he makes Gabby look like an intellect.

Part of being with excellent passing skills is to have a great understanding of the game wich comes with good football brain.

This chat will go up in terms of class if you add a few apostrophes and fix your spelling mistakes ;)

You're right. It's all about opinions. Your opinion just seems pretty far-fetched. Jonjo Shelvey 'on his day', is one of the best in his position. If this is the case, why has he not been snapped up by a top club?

    Because of hes attitude problems

Welcome to VT Jonjo Shelvey's mom

Its my opinion and one thing you should do is to respect peoples opinion on this chat. And if you disagree with peoples opinion than you have to have some realistic argument against it. Not just say because he isnt good or hes crap. Then this chat will go up in terms of class

    So, just to recap:

    - Rushian Hepburn Murphy is better than Kodjia, should be our back-up striker in the Prem and is likely to have a better career than any of our other strikers

    - Jonvo Shelvey is one of the best players (in the world?) in his position

    Mondays.

No no not in the world:) When hes on his day in PL he shows ability in highest class in this league.

Yep, can see him being picked up by a team in Europe playing at a EL level

i thought he was ok, a better option than whelan and Jedi in games where we had high possession, the reading at home game was the stand out for me, he absolutely bossed that game, problem is smith obviously didn't fancy him much last season so that's not going to change now so we might as well cash in

What im saying regarding Bjarnason is that football in Championship is totally different from other football hes been playing in hes career and his ability are much more likely to shine through in the highest quality football.

Bjarni's alright but he ain't playing minutes for us in premier league.

On the last page there was a poster who said he wasn't even championship standard who think you need to convince him more.

Im not trying to convince anyone. Im just telling you gays and showing you that different between this leaque is huge and you need players who has proove themeself on the highest like Bjarnason. If you have already decide that Bjarnason is not at Premier leaque level and hardly at Championship than i want try convince you. But people who has knowledge in this industry they are aware of his quality and what they think does matter.

He's always done well for Iceland. He did well at times for us under Steve Bruce with his energy. I wouldn't say composure on the ball is one of his strengths though.

Think best precis on him was from @dont_do_it_doug. a few pages back.

He's not going to be a regular at all for us in the premier league.

National team football at highest level is similar quality as Premier League and i remember many player from highest quality who have dissapear in Championship due to power football. By your opinion do you think this divisions are similar? I remember 2 of hes goals for Villa last two year and there you can see highest quality one vs Wolves

And here vs reading time 4:40

If you rank midfielders in terms of importance.

    1. Jack

    2. McGinn

    3. New DM

    4. Hourihane

    5. Jota (when Jack is injured).

    6. Lansbury (I think he made bench in one of play off games)

So even with very depleted numbers Bjarni is still well down the pecking order. We'll sign another two midfielders at least in next few weeks and yes wouldn't shock me if he's let go for small fee on transfer deadline day.

I think you are not being fair regarding Bjarnason. Championship football and Premier League are totally different. In championsship its 70% power and 30% technique (understanding of the game and how possison themeself) In premier league its 70% technique and 30% power. Bjarnason played in begining of june 2019 national team game in euro qualific. in Icelandic win over Turkey 2-1.Birkir Bjarnason assisted winning goal and was voted along with Gylfi Sigurdsson Man of the match.Turkey won France in same tournement 3 days earlier. Birkir Bjarnason has capped 82 high quality national football including euro and world cup final tournament. Birkir is not power player therefore his not well suitable for Championship. He has excellent undertstanding and can possison himself very well. Im sure that hes ability will shine through in Premier Leaguer where he plays with and against player who has similar quality.

The going rate for good championship players seems to be about £12m. If we pay much more then it will be over the top.

Best players in Championship are most of the time overpriced. Would be better in terms of money to have someone from La liga, Bundesliga or Serie A. But they dont know the culture in England as well as the player from Championship.

  16. Hi there, i would like to have admission to Villatalk because of my interest in the Villa Team. I have been watching it closely for past two year and have my opinion on this topics. I like to have conversation to other with same interest as im.  Best regards Jon
