Great news .
Hope price tag doesn't put under pressure - he is very much a confidence type of player.
Really looking forward to see what the team set up will be against Man City

SAFC's third choice striker. £24m is excellent business. He may score a goal or two but you need more than that to get your team out of a relegation scrap.
Gyan and Welbeck will do nicely for the weekend's game. £24m to spunk on a couple of players will boost European credentials.
Third choice striker?
lol

It's The Mirror FFS.
-
Yeh lets get rid of Ashley Young - hes rubbish - lets sign Le Tallec.
-
Soon we'll be able to play:
-----------------------FRIEDEL----------------------------------
---LICHAJ---------CUELLAR------COLLINS------WARNOCK-----
---ALBRIGHTON---PETROV-----DOWNING-----A.YOUNG-----
--------------------AGBONLAHOR---HESKEY--------------------
With a bench of:
GUZAN, YOUNG, DUNNE, NRC, PETROV, NRC, DELPH, CAREW.
Ain't bad to me. And that's without anyone arriving.
Downing in the middle ?
No - hes best out wide.
And two Petrovs?
-
Weren't pretty but lot of effort across the pitch today. Good result.
-
Even so they still had relative experience and internationals in midfield - we had Hogg and Clark as heart of midfield.

Rather than staying calm and letting Houllier continue to ruin our club...
The club was here a long time before GH, and will remain so a long time after he has left. If we lose to West Brom AND Wigan, then we can start to ask questions, but can anyone honestly say they thought the side we were forced to put our against Liverpool was anywhere near capable of beating them?
Your last point needs re-emphasising for some on here.
Yes absolutely it was capable. We have a lot of injuries at central midfield but it doesn't turn us into a conference side ffs. Last season we went there with a back 4 of Shorey-Davies-Cuellar-Beye but they defended like their lives depended on it and we won by scoring from set pieces. And Plop had Torres/Gerrard playing then.
The perfomance was very poor but make no mistake the mdifeld we started with last night of Hogg and Clark in middle alongside out of sorts Ireland and back from operation Albrighton was still a big handicap before a ball was kicked.
Course Hogg and Clark in middle is the same as when had Milner , Petrov and Reo Coker starting in same game last year ....?
Our back 4 wasn't the same either, not one of our first choice back four now was playing. Neither is Liverpool missing Torres/Gerrard. Milner was playing wide and Sidwell was playing in the middle btw.
Of course it's a handicap we had to play two youngsters in the middle, but to say that team is not capable of beating an above average premier league side is just rubbish.
Yeh the back four wasn't the same - tho many here would argue that Cuellar should be a first choice than either Dunne or Collins at moment.
The senior back four last night and under Houllier in general have been awful and that is real concern at moment - seeing our so called first choice seniors playing so shite.
But the team on paper last night was undoubtedly a lot weaker than the one that beat Liverpool last year 3-1 becuase of the midfield imo. Hogg , Clark , Ireland , Albrighton , Downing Vs Reo Coker , Petrov , Milner , Sidwell , Ashley Young
Still doesn't excuse the performance or Houlliers comments but the injuries do still have to be taken into account a bit.

Its not a "superb post". It's not even true for starters - Ramos was manager at Spurs for a season and a half - he won a league cup in his first season at Spurs . He was sacked into his second season not after a few weeks of having the job.
-
In fairness think he meant if he HAD to lose he'd rather it be to Liverpool than anyone else..
i dnno am just trying to play devils advocate for a second.
I only saw game on TV and i turned it off straight away at end so i didn't see the waving stuff ignoring our fans.
Am baffled if he thinks that was a good effort by the side tho.
-
Yes we we're awful but loook at the starting midfield tonight.
Defesne as been saying for a while has gone to pot - senior players playing absolute turd under Houllier in general.
-
Injuries do make it hard to judge Houllier in any coherent way.
But ....senior players playing as badly as have been under him is not acceptable. Results are simply not good enough - sort it out.
-
I'm just back. We were **** woeful and 4-2 flatters us. Arsenal deserved to win by 5 or 6 goals.
I don't know where to start. Pires and Carew should never have started. Pires runs about like an old man who as shit himself and looks well off the pace. Good player he may have been but he is past it as this level.
The back four were all pretty shit. Why this is when this as been one of the strongest parts of our game in recent years is any ones guess. Personnel is the same but we can't defend for shit. Maybe **** Houllier can answer this?
Also have to say the atmosphere was crap today even when it looked like we may somehow get back into the game. I know many people don't like/want Houllier but we still need to get behind the lads during the game. Over 3k empty seats today as well.
I fear Sha will give us a good beating on Wednesday. How far we appear to have fallen in just a few short months.
The back four (our experienced players) playing as woeful as they are is the real concern.
-
Some of Carews lay offs and passes actually had me laughing - they were that bad.
-
I was hoping for a top 10 finish when the first match started this season (in the summer my expectations were top 6 again).
Now I see I probably am too optimistic, as usual.
Will give Houllier until Christmas next season, though. We gotta stop this "change manager" nonsense. Houllier is probably the best a club with our ambitions and resources can aim for.
No one has called for his head have they?
I've said its almost impossible to gage any real opinion on Houllier at moment given the current injuries.
Having said that we were awful today have been for pretty much all this season- our most experienced players today were terrible - truely O'Leary circa 2005/6 stuff
-
We're playing like an O'Leary side . Actually at times im not sure if our squad is that much better than the 2006 team tbh...
-
We'll do well to stay up . At moment look like a side who wont beat ANYONE. Yes injuries etc but that doesnt explain why our back four is so shit
We cant just **** blame the back 4. Wilshire, nasri, arshavin all midfield players. It was like the **** alamo at times
I'm not just talking about todays game.
Tho will say this was far from a vintage Arsenal dispaly - we were just shit - yes injuries etc but imagine if Fabregas , Van Persie etc played today.
Don't get why our back four - the experienced players have been so shit ALL season .
-

Why is our defence so shit?
Can excuse Houllier for a lot -inujuries etc - but why is pretty much our first choice experienced back four so shit?

what a pass there by Carew.............

Arsenal 70% possesion - lol
Houllier: Back him or sack him?

Hope the Man City result is a genuine turning point - pretty confident it will be as perfomances of late have been decent.
However results under Houllier were still diabolical lets not kid oursleves there - could see what was trying to do and yes injuries et were bad but either way results were simply unaccepatable. Lets hope we'll kickstart from here on and what has been good us signing Bent etc .
Will happily support Houllier myself but i aint about to talk about how brilliant etc hes been either...
