  1. listening to steve mcclaren today on talksport, the guy knows his stuff, his club record is impressive, i wanted sm when mon left..im sure if sm was in place we wouldnt be seeing gh talking about the need for 10 points to stay up! my biggest worry is gh in charge next year,i dont see any improvement under him.

Can't help but that Boro fan ripping his season ticket up in front of McClaren.

I think McClaren is probably a very goad coach - but manager? I don't think he is.

Yes he won Boro a cup and did well in Holland but done shit in Germany and with England and he left a lot of rubbish at Boro in terms of players.

He may well resurrect his career back in Prem one day - personally would rather not see him at Villa tho

  2. :thumb:

Really like their first album .

    Gut Feeling FTW

I am ashamed to say I'm only just getting into Devo. I've a long list of bands I've been working chronologically backwards to get into. Absolutely superb,

Only got into Devo few years back myself.

"Are We Not Men? We Are Devo" is their best album - if you haven't already heard .

On a sidenote i know you don't like Nirvana (thats fair enough) but they did do a good cover version of "Turnaround" (which was the Bside to Whip It)

  3. You'd have to say it was always going to be pretty tough for anyone coming in and looking to improve on the 3 top 6 finishes under the previous manager. Now anyone coming in won't have that pressure given how inept Houllier has been..

No one expected Houllier to finish in top 6 this season . Think most ppl were prepared for a transitional and mixed season but not the diabolical one he has somehow managed .

Agree anyone coming in after Houllier would have it relatively easy given just how inept Hoillier has been.

  4. I've always admired Moyes for the way his sides play and the way he conducts himself.

Would he come here though? I'm not so sure he would'nt right now because the conditions seem right. Everton fans are restless and might be thinking he's takem them as far as he's ever going to. And who else would offer him the kind of opportunity we could, considering the ONE job he definitely does want will be filled by 'the chosen one' before too long.

I reckon he'll be just the 'happy medium' we need.

The Villa job will be quite appealing because of the way we have underachieved so badly this season. Anyone who isn't a complete idiot would have us top 8 in no time, especially with a bit of money to spend. Instantly Moyes would be back in a job with a big Prem club with the fans behind him but crucially without his hands tied financially quite as much as he has at Everton. A bit like when Harry took over Tottenham when they were bottom of the league, it was a false position created by an idiot manager and quickly got them shooting back up the table, his media reputation is up there with the best.

    Great points

  5. I'm having a huge Nirvana moment now thanks to this thread.

Going to plow through the albums and watch the 92 Reading set.

Funnily enough this thread also made me have bit of a Nirvana binge last week.

Was listening to a bonus live set that was included on the Bleach re-release deluxe version earlier - live at Pine Street theatre from early 1990 - and tho short is suprisingly very , very good!

I say sprisingly as its Pre-Grohl on drums and tbh weren't expecting much clarity soundwise on this live recording from that time. But it is !

Make no mistake about it -nevermind all the bollocks that unfortunately surround Nirvana - they were quite **** very good

    Pure energy

Sappy makes an appearance on it also

**** good live version of it as well

Why was Sappy never included on an album??

    Baffling.

One of Nirvanas best songs and the live version of the bonus Bleach thing is great.

  6. Yeh at this moment in time think Petrov's experience would be helpful.

Central midfield 3 - Makoun , Reo Coker and Petrov imo. With Ash and Downing supporting Bent.

Unfortunately, this may not be an option...

    Just saw this-

    http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/football-hotline/2011/04/03/aston-villa-willing-to-sell-ashley-young-102039-23034142/

    and this-

    http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-News-Aston-Villa-s-Nigel-Reo-Coker-will-be-able-to-leave-on-free-in-summer-with-Valencia-Seville-Roma-Juventus-and-Napoli-article719929.html

Not sure how reliable these sources are though...

I meant in the time being - ie-for the rest of this season.

I think its common knowledge Ash will be off in the summer (unfortunately) as for Reo Coker - we'll id be suprised if he went abroad as with most English players.

  7. Think ppl forget how much experience Downing had before we signed him . He was very much part of the world cup squad back in 2006. (OK he didnt exactly pull up trees for England under Sven and yeh it was pretty miserable tournament for England again...but anyhow ...i digress!)

Hes a quality player but is a confidence type of player- last season was always going to be tough for him coming back from that injury (ironically was a Petrov tackle that caused it).

We managed to sign him basically because Boro were so pissed off at Spurs tapping him up the year before we signed him.

As for Adam Johnson well yeh very good player also but there was some sort of agreement with Boro and him that they wouldn't sell him that paticular year that we bought Downing so its bit of a non debate.

  8. I'll take time for him. At this current point though I'd be playing Petrov, Reo-Coker and one out of him and delph if we were to be playing three in midfield.

Yeh at this moment in time think Petrov's experience would be helpful.

Central midfield 3 - Makoun , Reo Coker and Petrov imo. With Ash and Downing supporting Bent.

  9. Way too early to make any assessment imo.

I think he can pick a decent pass but is clearly adapting to playing in Prem at moment.

Being involved in a ridiculous relegation battle has hardly helped him either.

  10. For crying out loud it's not hard surely to read a simple question? This poll is NOT do you want Houllier sacked, or whether you like Houllier, or want to meet Houllier, go shopping with him etc etc.

It is specifically, during the time period mentioned, do you approve with how Houllier has done? Simple.

And the fact we've gone on one of the worst runs, coupled with all the off-the-field problems, reports and rumours - how can any Villa fan in there right mind vote yes? It's completely illogical - regardless of whether you like him or not.

    Exactly.

  11. Cannot imagine why anyone would consider last 2 months as good .

Just baffling and tbh just plain straight up mental.

I don't think I've said that I consider the last 2 months as good.

If the poll was "Are you happy with the results recently?" then my vote would have been "Non". To me the results don't tell the whole story.

Well...the poll is for whether you approve of Houllier over the last 2 months.

Whether you think Houllier can magically not be crap one day in future etc is open to debate etc ..but you approve of his management over last 2 months ?- specifically the last 2 months?

Sorry - but no **** way for me .

His management over the last 2 months sees us now 16th and still talking of staying up in bloody April!

How can you specifically approve of that?

  12. There are no fans of any club in any division in any country that would "approve" of one win in eight. Coupled with the other contributory factors such as the manner of the Man City FA Cup defeat and there is no way on Gods earth anyone would/could approve of the last two and a half months.

Therefore I can only assume the three people who voted "Oui" are on a wind-up. Either that or Houllier, Faulkner and Gary Mac have recently signed up to Villa Talk...

    Agreed.

Awful manager and miserable past two months for what was allegedly some of our easier fixtures.

Hope we can just stumble along and stay up - theres no way he deserves another season .

Hes reduced me to being "chuffed" when **** Blackpool lose!

  13. Had us down for a draw before today so itll do but have to say we should have beaten this Everton - just look at their side today.

7 first team players in their squad today, hardly reserves.

No it wasn't their reserves and didn't say that but when they are starting with likes of Beckford upfront and still score two its not excactly great .

  14. Was initially against the idea tbh. As does seem bit of a shit compromise but those "no" campaign adverts i making me re-evaluate my position . They are very cynical and tbh just seem a joke.

First past the post is crap and political reform is definately needed no argument

but have to say AV seems crap halfway house at well.

    I honestly dnno.
