I’ve done limited research - but where is the evidence to suggest he is Croatia’s number 1? He didn’t play WC semi final or final and only has 14 appearances doesn’t he?
Subasic (AS Monaco - 34 years old) played all of Croatia's games in the world cup (in goal ofc), apart from the game versus Iceland where Kalinic played.
Of the 5 UEFA Nations League games since Sept, Kalinic played in 4 of them (vs Portugal, Spain, Spain again, England).
There was also one International match after the WC (vs Portugal), which Kalinic played in. (not sure what that match was all about?)
How i would understand that information (not confirmed or known by myself - im guessing), is that he's currently the No 2 GK for Croatia, with a few caps under his belt, possibly now being played after the WC to develop in to their No 1 when Subasic retires from international football?
edit: Jamaican Villa confirmed above Subasic has retired, so it does seem i was mostly right, and now he's Croatia's No 1 GK.

Personally I wouldn't play him on the 5th, it's versus Swansea in the cup isn't it?
If that is the case I would personally play a development team versus Swansea, like ohare, Revan, davis and any other players who dont normally play in the first team on a weekly basis etc, I would also let nyland play in that game.
Reason being is to give him a few more days to settle in to the club, as well rest some players as it's a congested week, the cup to me isn't important, we need fresh legs in the league imo.
Also if we did do a development team I would t want him conceding goals and maybe knocking his confidence in his first game not playing with the A team.

He did well today. He looks to me like a player with a run of games and some confidence will only look better and better. I'd bring in a new centre back and then move him to right back and give him the chance to make it his own.
agreed, he needs his chance! (at RB - not LB, CB, DMC ORRRRRR STRIKER!!!! )

What a relief to get three points again! And well done Nyland! And Hourihane too, but I wonder when Grealish will be back, and Taylor.
Who would have thought with some of the comments on here someone was pining for Taylor to return to the starting lineup!!!!!

Can I just confirm, having not listened to or watched the match, that Nyland saved a penalty toward the end!? There's often a big reaction to events on here without further (or any) explanation. Of course no other media source outside the midlands are remotely interested in the details either... 5Live didn't mention a thing about it.
yeah 90th minute penalty save after El Ghazi fouled someone.

MOTM for the swansea match for me. He was so dominant. Swansea had zero chances from open play that worried me. Still think he is a right back, but this is really great to see. Keep playing him Dean.
How tall is bree?

didnt watch the game, but that was a really good win for us, i was concerned we might have to settle for a draw, or maybe even lose, Swansea arent a bad team at all.
Seems Nyland did a good job :P, wonder if Santa granted a wish or something?, pleased for him.
How did we perform generally?, were we impressive or just lucky with a nicked goal and managed to not concede?
So, 3 points off the playoffs now and we are 10th, close league! (also 3 points off 5th, if we can put together a good run now we are in a good position, we really need Grealish back though and those defensive reinforcements asap.

Any truth in the Barbet link do we know?
What are people thoughts on it of it were true?

If the previous manager had put in yesterday's performance this site would be in meltdown
My retort to that is I don't believe for one second we would have even had the opportunity to lose the game in the last minute, we would have been dead and buried way before that under SB

Made this point in the match thread but probably should have stated it here.
I’m a little concerned that DS hasn’t replaced Grealish with O’Hare over the last two games. O’Hare is the only comparable player Villa have in Grealish’s position so why not play him?
Marcelo Bielsa trusted his younger players yesterday in an important game which paid off handsomely for him.
I just hope DS isn’t letting the pressure of promoting Villa interfere with his footballing philosophy intergrating young players into a pass and move system?
Is ohare even ready?, I have seen him in a few u23 games and although he looks good he doesn't blow them away?
I agree he should be integrated in to the team if there are opportunities and he is ready, but listening to some people on here I get the incorrect belief that he is the next Messi.
I'm not trying to be negative, give the lad time if he is good enough, but DS needs to be given time to develop the team and in all honestly with some of the screeching after our first loss in 7 versus the best team in the league, I can see why he might not give someone a "chance".
Not pointed at you by the way, just a general observation of the response to the loss in some corners.
We aren't going to fix this team over night and if we want DS to blood our youth on top of DS integrating his style and bedding in his own players, we need to be a little more level headed as a group of fans.
That doesn't detract from the fact that it appears the vast majority are totally on board with DS, but some of the screeching minority is pretty laughable.

Would I be wrong in saying that Terry made him look good last season? The drop in performance is alarming.
Terry helped, but I also think our style of play last season covered some of his weaknesses.
So basically he's double exposed this season it seems, no Terry to be the commanding CB next to him, on top of we play a more up the field progressive style of play which also seems to expose him.
Oh let's add a third, now we don't have the big units in the starting 11 like Terry and jedinak, his massive 5ft 10in CB frame is additionally exposed as we literally have no big units to defend crosses or corners coupled with a GK who decent come off his line, which really shows him up as he's just not big enough to be a CB when he has no others around him to cover up the fact he is terribly weak in the air and can get knocked around.
Basically if you had a lost of all the ways to expose Chester to all his weaknesses we have gone through and ticked them all

anyone got his press conference after the game?

1 win in 5, 12 goals conceded, terrible second half displays, throwing points away for fun.
It's not good enough. I was hoping Smith's nativity would disappear after a few of these, but it seems not.
Hopefully he starts to learn how to close games out before its too. Auto promotion is now good, could be playoffs before long at this rate too.
We're so open and easy to run at its embarrassing. But oh well, we get the odd score draw now!
You can polish a turd, but a turd is still a turd regardless
(aka our defence)

Maybe I saw it from a bad angle, but that chance they had after we scored our first, the ball was crossed in along the floor literally towards his six yard line, and he literally just stood there and it bounced off someone and nearly went in, Elmo cleared it I think?
Why on earth didn't he go for it?, or was it a bad angle I saw and it wasn't as clear cut as I think?

Didn't even realise until know that Albert was actually on the bench.
Another who's lacking match fitness but tbh he's the only wide player at the club capable of tracking back and helping out the full back so once it got back to 2-2 he'd have made more sense to come on than El Ghazi so that's another change DS could have made.
To be fair el Ghazi has prob been our best winger for tracking back in recent games.

Any idea how long he's out for?

One more season in the championship might serve us well in the long term.
The squad needs a massive rehaul.
Rebuild the team. Give it a year to settle. Go up and get a foothold in the premier league.
The current squad would get slaughtered if it went up.
i tend to agree with this, i think another full season in the championship allowing DS to build the right team, would prob be good overall for us, we just arent ready right now i dont think.
It doesnt mean i dont want to go up, of course i do, but right now we just arent ready right now, i think another full season under our belt with a few new faces and a fully and smooth running DS system, we will hopefully be a different prospect next season.

Going to try and be level headed.
We got taught a lesson by the best or second best team in the division, Leeds & Norwich are clearly the best two teams in this division currently, lets be realistic and say we are aiming for the playoffs.
We have come through the super tough Nov/Dec fixtures with 4 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss, pity we lost to Leeds like that, but overall we have done pretty well the last 8 games, and probably deserved to have won 6, drawn 2 and lost 1 (but ofc it doesnt work like that).
We are 4th in the form table over the last 8 games, which isnt the end of the world considering the teams wee have played.
The true test is how we do in the next 10 games versus teams we should mostly be expected to do well against.
As we all know, defensively we are really poor, the GK scenario is hopefully sorted, we desperately need the back 4 sorting, and a ball playing DM i think, if we cant get this sorted in Jan, i prob think we will even struggle for the playoffs.
I know some ppl seem to be losing their s*** over the Leeds game, but at the end of the day, they are/were better than we were, pretty simple, although i still think DS is doing a sterling job with a) the players at his disposal, and b) the bare carcass of a back line we have.
We do need to get back to winning ways though, we have W 1, D 3, L 1 of our last 5 games.
Regardless of what people say, i honestly beleive if SB was still in charge, the Nov/Dec run of games wouldnt have been anywhere near as good for us, I can see what DS is trying to do and i fully support it, we just need the time to get some players in who suit the system and for the whole team to settle in to that system, i tend to think we will still be in the Championship next season, but im also hopeful that if that is the case, we will be a team and a half next season once DS has signed a few of his own players and really got his system ticking over.
We need to give DS some time, the team was left in a right mess by his predecessor (defensively), i have never seen anything like it in terms of hoe SB left us players wise at the back, its almost like purposeful sabotage, or grand incompetence.

I do feel for bree to be honest, I was hoping he would get his chance at some point and hopefully develop in to a good player for us, but not in this type of scenario where he is thrown in at CB to cover for short falls in his first game for a while.
Poor fella.
Feel like switch in the matrix, "not like this, not like this" - falls over dead

because they are already up the table and mostly have a balanced team that can accommodate blooding players.
we are playing catch up, with an entirely lop sided team with multiple injuries and every point dropped is a major issue for us having any chance to get "there or there abouts"
Sure there are other reasons also, but our overall current scenario isnt great i dont think for blooding untried youth, or maybe its actually the ideal time?!?!?!
