  1. Should play a B / development team vs Swansea imo (ohare, Revan, davis, whelan etc - ie first team players not getting games and youth), we need to rest our key players they have had a terribly busy couple of months, and the next few weeks are important in the league.

Our key players have looked tired the last few games.

Don't want to down play the cup, would love a good run as much as the next man, but with our current injury and thread bare squad currently I think we need to prioritise things.

If I was DS, I would, long term, only keep Jack and Mcginn from a current stock of midfielders. O'Hare might come good, and Lansbury might turn out to be ok. Hourihane and Bikir are average at best, Whelan and Jed are finished.

completely agree with this, Grealish & McGinn are the only two midfielders i can see being able to play a DS system.

Hourihane - too weak, goes missing, doesnt have the ability to play the all action style, BB - same as Chocolate Tea Pot-hane , Whelan - just cant play the style, Jedinak - same as Whelan.

Lansbury....maybe?, who knows, needs to complete a full game or two sometime in the next decade (or his contract expires), before i pass final judgement! :)

But some think it's the best personnel in the division...

But it really isn't, I think we have rose tinted glasses sometimes for our own players.

Granted they might be decent in an average team playing a certain way , but playing possession based progressive football, more than half of them are atrocious.

A good % of them cant pass in intricate spaces or apparently have the intelligence to play in that way, regardless of what you do with them.

Once again, does something good then **** it up by being a greedy bollocks. Not squaring it to one of the three players waiting and instead booting it out for a throw in is unforgiveable. And it keeps happening. Not happy.

thats prob why he's gracing the championship and not the premiership :P

That wasn't the interview I heard on WM. My reading of the interview was that DS said he wouldn't know anything about bids for players. That was for Christian and some other guy who he seemed to refer to by a nickname I didn't understand (presumably Jesus whatever his name is)  Most likley he just didn't want to discuss players who aren't 100% signed - But I didn't hear him say anything about a group of players being identified.

Guy who sits next to me reckons the Spanish midfielder we were linked with a few days back is all but done.

He probably said "Suso", which is the nickname for Jesus Pitarch.

apologies for asking, but who is "the guy who sits next to you"?, are you both people who have some insight in to possible transfers?

  6. I always wait for the minimum once per game where he gets muscled off the ball, stands there flailing his arms at the ref like a 12 year old rather than hunt the ball down and try and win it back, while the opposition break down the pitch straight down the middle of us nearly scoring a goal.

He did it today, they nearly scored, the guy is a total liability.

  7. DS is the right man imo, he's just working with sub standard goods, and we are missing some key players, grealish & Tuanzebe have prob been two of our most important players consistently this season i think.

Hutton is a liability, but also our mid field is leaving the defence exposed a lot, so many time teams run or pass right through us, McGinn cant do it all alone, Hourihane is a total disaster imo, again today he was tackled and stood there with his arms out talking to the ref as they ran straight through us and i believe had a shot, BB is also pointless, the mid field just doesnt offer enough pressing cover and shirks from responsibility and tackles (McGinn aside).

The people in defence are important, but when we have a mid field of wet lettuces who can even justify their lack of desire by being obviously amazing going forward, is at least part of the reason we are a mess.

the Chester/Elphick pairing looked mostly ok today, Bree also looked ok but played a hell of a lot of long balls.

We seriously need a new LB to either challenge or replace Taylor, but i also think just as importantly we need a new ball playing DM who actually presses/tackles, and probably another MC who is comfortable with a DS system, its becoming more and more apparent that without the right players in that centre midfield 3, the whole format starts to struggle.

We need a player who can play a Grealish type game, and a ball playing DM desperately. (on top of the defensive stuff).

  8. terrible.

Literally the only two mid fielders we have worth a jot is McGinn & Grealish.

Hourihane, BB, Whelan, Jedi, all rubbish in the sense they cant play possession football, and Hourihane at DM is like putting a chocolate teapot in a hot bath.

    QPR are a horrid team.

    More points dropped

QPR are above us in the table, maybe they should see it as points dropped.

We got what we deserved, the same in our previous game.

We have some really poor players, really poor.

I agree with you here Dem.

A few voices have started to creep in lately. He has to be doing better.

is it smith though, or the fact we are missing our two best players of the season, and bar one or two others, the rest just arent that good at all.

  11. In reality, if any of us were getting paid 35k a week, and were unable to do our job, i doubt any of us would say "dont worry boss, dont pay me" out of the goodness of our heart, money is money at the end of the day, and although footballers are rich, wealth is relative, big salary, big tastes, as the old saying goes, everyone lives to their means, more incoming money, usually peoples lifestyles increase to match it.

At the end of the day, AV are/were to blame for giving him a) such a long contract, and b) not taking in to account historic known injuries (cant imagine how he flew through the medical).

What is even more damning is that this hasnt just happened once (where we commit to an expensive as hell transfer and/or long term contract for little or no return), so the fault is clearly with the club, once is a mistake, twice and more is probably incompetence. (Richards, McCormack, Tshibola, De Laet, Samba, Lescott, Lansbury, Traore, Gestede, Bennett, Luna, Helenius, Amavi, Vertout etc etc etc).

Granted some of those are or were or are decent players, that for some reason went or are going sour, the money wasted is mind boggling, and smacks of a high level of incompetence, or just stupidity, who knows. (some of those players have even gone on to have good careers or greatly increase their value since it imploded at Villa, which further points to our historic incompetence)

I dont think tbh, anyone can say we havent invested money as a club, add up all our transfers and contracts over the last 3-4 years, and its a hell of a lot i bet, the trouble is we spend poorly, and thats an understatement, hopefully the new regime can rectify these types of long standing issues.

Im not keen on Richards, the signing was and is a joke of epic proportions and we have been paying for it for a long time (similar to McCormick and others), but in fairness, he's doing what anyone of us would do, getting all the pay cheques he can before the gravy train stops, cus tbh.....who is going to possibly offer him anything after his Villa contract expires? (other than possibly a pay as you play, or a coaching role which wont pay him anywhere near what hes on now).

However much we as fans love the club, to most players these days clubs are just a pay cheque and/or a stepping stone to future success (or to milk while they chill with their A grade lifestyle), a true fan playing for the club he loves is a rarity in this day in age.

  12. Bree gets his long awaited chance at RB, interesting, lets hope he grasps it!

Will be interesting to see how the Kodj/Adomah/Tammy trio work, been a while since either Bolasie or El Ghazi weren't starting over one or both of them.

Kod/Adomah should be pretty fresh though, so hopefully they can give them a bit of a run around.

Anyone with the qpr lineup? Fearing Eze who I believe is a good prospect. Tore us apart last season. Read on a qpr forum that he needs a rest, so here is hoping that is true.
