  1. 16 managers in 10 years, 17 managers in 10 years when you factor in the replacement (granted 2 of those are caretaker managers, but still.....they were manager there for a short time all the same).

Joke of a club, who on earth would want to manage there...my lord.

I thought we were bad over the last decade, but even we have only had 7 managers in 10 years, we are amateurs compared to this lot.

  2. would be great to have him back on the bench for the leeds game.

I think with Coutinho & Buendia, we can afford to break him in gently, and hopefully not suffer a relapse of the injury, or a similar muscle injury.

While he is getting up to speed, he should be a nasty player to bring on with 20/25 minutes to go.

Well 1 good season in 1.5 seasons isnt bad so far? I would say 16 goals in his maiden Premier League season as decent? The only centre forwards scoring more than him were: Kane, Bamford, Calvert Lewin and Vardy. With more luck (woodwork and VAR) and as the designated penalty taker he could have made 20 goals. I can give you a very long list of forwards who scored less, in some cases an awful lot less, and don’t have the other aspects of game that he has either.  Honestly, he’s a decent forward, we could do much worse, but yes, could do better.

i think that is quite a fair and balanced comment.

I can understand people questioning his form this season but “Watkins had a fairly good first season” I find difficult to agree with.

I thought he was one of our best players last year and probably the best striker we have had since Benteke

Regarding his headed chance,in the 1970 World Cup when Banks saves Peles header was that a bad miss on Peles part?

are you really comparing Watkins' miss to the Pele/Banks situation?

You expect a good striker to score that chance 99/100 (vs Everton), yes a keeper can pull off an amazing save, but if they do, its because the striker hasnt placed the shot properly.

Anyone can miss from time to time, but Watkins to me, has really poor finishing instincts.....tbh i wont say poor, just bang average and it wont be good enough if we want to be climbing the table, we need clinical and composed finishers.

tbh, its also not just Watkins, as a team we arent as clinical as we should be (generally speaking), we have trouble killing games off, due to our poor finishing (i dont mean always, i just mean its a noticeable thing).

Jump into the keeper out of your natural running lane and fall over. Penalty.

well, Salah managed it with Mings, when he literally jumped in front of Mings to trip him over, who then fell in to Salah and he got a pen.

VAR in principle is fine, the people using it are incompetent though.

What makes it worse, is they cant even make the right calls in super slow motion, its quite mind boggling tbh.

Couldn’t agree more.He was OK yesterday,we look a much better team with him upfront alone.

He offers so much more than Ings. Are we creating lots of chances for him ?No

Wesley shit,Davis shit Kodja shit Ings a bit shit Watkins was good now shit .Villatalk seems to specialise in making a striker our go to scapegoat.

in the last game, he was literally given a golden chance on a platter, but he decided to be 3 yards offside and head it at the keeper, when a blind & legless person would have been expected to put it away.

I understand we can be a little overly harsh on players, as well as overly praising of players, but honestly, if you are defending Watkins' recent performances, im not sure what poor play looks like 2 u, he's been really bad overall for quite a few games, and its not just finishing, control, ball retention, vision, passing to other players rather than being selfish....the list goes on.

watkins had a fairly good first season with us last season, but this season hasnt been good for him at all.

He's so close to joining Villa that he's in the Juventus starting line up tonight

ye, if it was remotely close, or even if a bid was accepted or close to being accepted, you wouldnt chance your saleable asset getting injured by playing them......

wonder if this is ESR Mk.2 lol.

Talking of which - I live in Italy and so when Villa are on TV it is with Italian commentators.  I am always blown away by how much these guys know about English football (my only previous comparison being British commentators talking about foreign teams).  The guy yesterday mentioned at least twice that the Villa fans were singing "he's one of our own" to Jacob Ramsey because he had come through the Villa academy and then talked about our academy and other players coming through.  He talked about how much Ramsey had improved this season and was leading the charge for the youngsters coming through.  Mentioned that Gerrard had said that Ramsey had more potential than he did at the same age, etc.  He had a similar level of knowledge / insight about the Everton players as well.  Considering that during Euro 21 half the British commentators didn't know which clubs most of the Italian squad played for it is insane.  For some reason an Italian commentator waxing lyrical about "one of our own" and our academy made me feel really proud and a little emotional.

amazing, sounds like there are still some proper commentators out there who do their homework and understand the wider game.

Not like most of the current breed of reporters and commentators, who probably have trouble wiping their own a** or remembering their own name.
