Ok- step back, have a glass of water. Read the post. A guess would be me just picking at random. But my argument explicitly rests on actual evidence of high profile drinking incidents so is therefore educated
What argument? It's a pure guess, based on a handful of stories of a high profile footballer in the hyper-sensitive 24hr media churn, in which you've extrapolated an opinion. None of us have the first idea about Jack's private life.

Of course we don’t know how exactly much he drinks. But we are allowed to make educated guesses from numerous (not just one) high profile drinking related incidents throughout his career
It isn't an 'educated guess' though mate is it, how could it possibly be? It's just a guess.

He'll be sold to Spurs or Toon. Or Madrid.
Newcastle. Nailed on. Another 'Michael Owen' type signing, with probably the same kind of success.

Leon Bailey is the reason we shouldn't be so quick to write off a player.

I can't blame Chuk for not taking a lower wage to stay with us. He's not a Villa fan, he owes us no loyalty when the fans show players no loyalty, and neither will the club. We will be absolutely ruthless when it suits us, but slag off players for putting their own interests first.
This is the crux of the interest for me. Take the polar opposite, admirable example of Philogene going to Hull for the sake of his long-term career trajectory and nothing else. Props to the kid and his advisors.

To be honest, I have no regrets. Our starting eleven, there is nobody I would sacrifice for him. Never saw the fuss and we got money in the bank.
Don't even think it's about regret. You know when you're heading out somewhere and witness a group of barely dressed young girls in heavy makeup meeting up with a group of mouthy lads in sportswear and baseball caps, and you paternally think, PLEASE don't go off anywhere with them, for your own sake, please don't think that's a good idea. It's sort of like that, only with insulting amounts of money and people in suits involved.

Being mauled by Wolves at home today. Not sure this will help us on Weds.

Just come on for Chelsea. Would really love a journalist to ask what he thinks of his career arc and the advice received so far.

Ok let me rephrase it. No-one should care about the 1874. Man Utd, Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle, West Ham, Chelsea do not have their founding year on their badges and all of them are nicer than ours. Liverpool do but that's no surprise and their badge is 25 years old.
My last comment as I'm happy to disagree and be disagreed with, but telling people what they should or shouldn't care about is plainly ridiculous. I care deeply about Aston Villa (as I've no doubt you do) and I couldn't care any less about what the teams you mentioned above do with their branding.

Why though? It doesn't mean anything of any importance. It's not like we're the oldest team or anything. It's just a year.
It isn't a race backwards. I absolutely do not understand how our founding year "doesn't mean anything of any importance", or how it could possibly be "just a year". Those statements aren't remotely true.
I personally love to see a timestamp, and I hesitate to use the term, of big brands like Guinness, for example, sat in the logo. For me it brings a weight of heritage that elevates the brand beyond a mere drink, or football club, in our case. Even if the brand is relatively new, I like to see its stake in history when it was born. I don't see this information as trivial or unnecessary in any way, and graphically it can really work as a part of the whole story on offer.
12 hours ago, R.Bear said:Absolutely this. No-one cares and it does nothing for the brand. It clogs up the badge with unnecessary info which most modern badges rightly avoid.
All that needs to be on the badge, whatever its design is the lion and "Aston Villa".
A universal truth: statements like "No one cares" tend to mean anecdotal "I personally don't care, and I recall my mate saying once he wasn't that fussed either".

Ditch the 1874 and the star, make the name bigger and this would be pretty good.
At the risk of bothering to take my interest further here, there's no way I'd like to see our founding year 'ditched'.

Man U away at Wolves will be Man U playing largely terrible all game and being 1-0 down, getting some crappy penalty just before half time 1-1, then being largely crap all second half before they get a late corner and score.
It's almost criminal how unutterably bad both Manchester United and Chelsea have been throughout the entire season, and yet, neither are that far away from the top 5. That's what happens when you can throw around billions without a care in the world. The teams below them haven't played badly by comparison, they simply don't have a multi-millionaire to stroll off the bench to score an undeserved goal or two in the latter stages of a game.

When he does return, I think we have to be careful and fair in not expecting too much too soon… the lad’s coming off a severe long term injury… hopefully he can get up to speed and help us but… patience will be required…
Patience in the first 10 minutes of his return you mean, right?

That disallowed goal was the turning point. Toon would have been on the ropes if Ollie was onside. Fine margins.
True. Also, Bailey came on too late.
