Yep, I don't really agree with it.

Happy it won best picture and director, because it's an amazing film. So that part makes total sense.

But for me it wasn't the acting performances that made it what it was so I'm disappointed that it pretty much swept the board there.

Michelle Yeoh was good so I guess that's ok even though it wouldn't have been my choice.
But Ke Huy Quan beating both Gleeson and Keoghan for best supporting, and Jamie Lee Curtis winning best supporting actress are not great choices.

To be honest I'm baffled that nobody from Women Talking was up for either Best Actress or Best Supporting. That movie would have been my choice for both

I actually thought correct film/wrong actress for best supporting, although Ive not seen a couple of the films so purely on the fact I thought Stephanie Hsu was better than Jamie Lee Curtis.

Yes. Death from all causes, though rather than “just” murdering them. Same with Pol Pot, many died from starvation and so on

There was an awful lot of purging which is essentially the same thing, bad people trying to “purify”, wether that’s racism or not following the line, it’s still all really awful. Personally I don’t really see a difference, it should all be called out and stopped.

That’s not really right is it? Either in terms of the numbers, or in terms of compiling Russia and Cambodian deaths and contrasting those with Nazi Germany’s.

Stalin had something like half a million people killed, PolPot maybe 2 or 3 times that, but even together it’s way less than the holocaust. It’s all incredibly grim, whatever. Add in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Burma, Malaysia, large parts of Africa…regimes killing huge numbers of people to cling to power.

Not sure, but the historian Tom Holland definitely said it on their Rise of the Nazis podcast last week. My point was more about the motivations being pretty much the same - getting rid of those that don’t fit or don’t believe in their message and usually blaming them for the woes. A playbook currently being run by Tories/GOP/Front Nationale etc.

I always find it odd the the Jews were persecuted by the nazis (facism I.e. politically extreme right wing), yet Israel which has a predominantly Jewish population is also seen as an extreme right wing country.

    Am I missing something...?

Right Wing really means hardline conservative views and it’s more about being anti anything that is different to your (normally religious views). There was an interesting point made on the Rest Is History podcast that Nazi’s are considered the height of evil (and understandably so) but the numbers killed in their belief is considerably less than those in the name of socialism (Stalin, Pol Pot).

I’d be happy getting rid of Nakamba and Chambers and signing absolutely nobody until the summer.

We need to get the squad down to a core 13/14 and then in the Summer we can go after 3 or 4 high quality players. Given we’ve got the wages of a few off the books and reduced the squad size, we’ll have some serious room to play with.

No point in rushing players through the door now. The only player we’ve been linked to that I think would genuinely improve us is Guendouzi. I’d be ecstatic if we signed him but not bothered one jot about the rest.

Clearing the dead wood is a priority for me. Digne and Coutinho can go in the Summer too.

I'm inclined to agree, although would be delighted with Nico Williams or Merino too

On about 93 minutes I announced "I think we've won this" to the hilarity of my other half

    I did exactly the same.

    "why are you so nervous?"

    "wolves game last year",

"but there is 3 mins to go and they haven't looked like doing anything this half."

    "Yeah but its Villa"

How have I only just stumbled across this thread? I'm big into cycling myself, raced for the Prison Service in China and Netherlands in international tournaments (World Police and Fire Games) - got a Wahoo Kicker Core and 3 bikes.

    Here's the main race bike:-

    image.thumb.jpeg.9b9385637fd358af23a5371a45ae851a.jpeg

Although using a Zipp Firecrest 404 on the front and 808 on the back (I'm at work and don't have an up to date pic!) Also into Time Trials too, and although I'm not great my quickest 10 mile TT is just under 25 minutes, which isn't too shabby.

So to the question - cycling holiday for Jan/Feb - Drive yourself down to Grenoble in France and stay there, get yourself up Alp D'Huez as that's in the area, plus there'll be plenty of other climbs in the area to tickle your fancy.

Very nice, I have an R5 (which Ive recently upgraded from a 2017 R5) and will never go back from Cervelo.

Jan/Feb I would recommend Lanzarote, cooler but not cold

  8. 3 this weekend:

Confess, Fletch - okay, couple of twists

Smile - half an hour too long but not a bad horror

Sprited - Christmas Carol variation with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell. Quite enjoyed it and kids loved it

  10. I use twitter for news generally, whether that is world, football, movies whatever but the last couple of days have been something else.

I think its gone past dumpster fire to baby diarrhoea on the  white sofa - Im not sure it will ever come back....

  11. I still dont think he gets that many chances, compared to say the number of chances Tammy had in the championship and despite a decent haul he still missed loads.

I guess we see where he gets to at the end of the season and if he has missed lots if chances, then its the hard task of finding someone more prolific and also capable of doing the work load that Ollie puts in.

£2.20 for 150 miles? What car is that a Zoe, must be small. Just been working it out, at home a 12 hour charge on a average size electric car to full, would be around 12 quid now. Taking into account the premium you paid for it, you aint buying it to save money, you must just be "doing ya bit"

corsa e which is yes a small car, basically 5.5p kw/h for 5 hours a night, but yeah it was a bit of both. If we get panels/battery then it gets even cheaper.

I also have a phev Rav 4 and do most of my mileage on the battery (it goes about 45 miles which is fine for 90% of my driving), when its not on battery I get circa 75 mpg on the hybrid.

  13. So my wife's car is electric and we only do local(ish) miles with it so other than having to pay for charging out a couple of times we mostly charge overnight at home with Octopus and it approx costs us £2.20 for 150 miles of driving which is significantly cheaper than any diesel or petrol. So if you are using fast chargers etc then it probably isnt worth it, but charging at home makes a huge difference.

Clerks 3 is available to stream (£9.99 rental) now. As a long time fan of the view askewniverse I was a little pensive as the last decent film Kevin Smith made was Red State back in 2011, although Tusk wasn't too bad.

I personally really enjoyed Clerks 3, if you take it as a comedy/drama then it works, if you're expecting gross out humour, you'll be disappointed. 8 out of 10 for me - if you liked the original film and it's subsequent sequel there's a lot to love here.

"Jay" trying to act is one of the funniest things you'll see.

Kevin Smith Finally Releases The Clerks 3 Trailer

Watched this last night, I totally agree. Wasn't quite what I was expecting from Kev but an interesting change in tone for the final act. Good film.
