  1. Regardless of personal opinion or what may or may not have transpired behind the scenes last season, it seems clear from Mr. McLeish's comments today that Warnock is very much his first choice left-back for this season so we may as well get used to the idea and support him. Find the form of 2009-2010 and he will be a very solid defensive addition to a team that played virtually the entire second half of last season with no orthodox left-sided full-back. Is never going to offer a great deal going forward but if he gets his defensive duties right then it enables the manager to use what funds he does have available to strengthen elsewhere.

The same goes for Luke Young at right-back. If both are consistent then we don't need to rush to spend money on replacements for at least another twelve months when hopefully the rest of the team is in better overall shape.

    yeah, you have a point.

A settled back line of Warnock, Dunne, Collins, Young

with back-up of Clark, Cuellar, Beye, Baker, Lichaj.

It could be a pretty good defence if they get back to playing well, like the season before last.

Strange comments to make on this back four when we shipped goals for fun last season.

If we are to have any success this coming season then apart from Young, the other three should be sold and replaced!

I would be interested to know how many times they played together and how many goals they conceded as the first choice four last season.

  2. Rumours eminating from Wigan side are that this was a done deal anyway a week or so ago, the ball was very much in Villa's court.

So why have we not got him signed yet?

I know its terrible, I mean I bet I could have managed to sign him in 35 seconds on FIFA.

  3. Why couldn't we replace Young when we sold him?

Maybe they dont want to play with 2 wingers and either Ireland or a.nother player has been earmarked as a replacement.

Why does it take Downing being sold to kickstart our transfer activity?

I dont think it has. i would say we have been working on the Given deal this week and hold up on that is likely to be Manchester end.

It looks more like we were happy to let Albrighton take Youngs spot and only needed to sign a winger once Downing was sold as well.

    See above.

  4. Yep seems to be more than one, I dont post much anway, never have done, but this is the worst I can remember it being since I have been reading the site.

I can't work out if they are just trolling or if they have some serious character issues that should not be shared on a football forum.

I also dont like the way they are discussing the owners like they are some kind of Nazi sex offender register candidates.

  5. Have you seen Higurashi? So **** up

I was trying to remeber the name of that yesterday, not far wrong, proper messed up. I must get my hands on the remaining episodes.....

I challenge anyone to watch Grave of the Fireflies and not want to burst into tears, very good movie. Would recommend any Studio Ghibli, was disappointed to find out I would have to take a child with me to watch Arriety at the Barbican next month. Hope it gets a full cinema release like Ponyo.

  6. Haven't watched any anime for ages, but currently waiting for East of Eden and Appleseed: ex machina to turn up from ebay, both look interesting.

I love Red Garden and Full Metal Panic and sadly various harem comedies.

  7. They have got a huge job on their hands sorting out the mess Labour have left behind again.

This kind of thing gets said every time a government changes hands from one outdated concept to the next

Yep, usually it goes like this....

"They spent all the money and left us in shit"

    and the other one goes

"They destroyed public services and left us in shit"

Well I agree with point one, not sure you could level point two at Labour though.

Maybe that one can be used against the Tories when they get voted out.....

That was the point he was making!

Strangely the same point I was making as well.......

OK, maybe when you stopped celebrating you'll see you misunderstood his post in the first place, either that or your not very good at making the points you make. Either way, your problem

I was merely putting across the same old arguements that bounce between the average Tory and the average Labour supporter. Plus you dont need to preach to the choir, I wish the Tories had got in on their own but Im all for a coallition, might stop some of the crazy Left/Right policies going through (like Fox Hunting - although personally I couldnt give a shit if its banned or not - just thought it was a class war thing rather than a real issue)

  8. Well lets all hope that history repeats itself and Villa can have the same kind of success they had the last time the tories took over from labour.

Labour had better get their arses in gear because if some people are right about this they wont have long to re-group before we are back to the polls.

If they are wrong and this does work it could be a great government that could see a big change in the political arena for some time to come.

They have got a huge job on their hands sorting out the mess Labour have left behind again.

The mess the Tories left from the 70s/80s is still here as well.

    Care to enlighten us?

Look at the North East of England, that is still feeling the effects of Thatcher.

It was hardly a shining example of prosperity before Thatcher came in though was it.

Shipbuilding died because they were other countries building ships cheaper.

Mining was a pawn in the Thatcher / Scargill battle but again was being effected because coal could be bought cheaper elsewhere.

How long did Labour need to make a difference up there?

    Exactly!!

Again we talk of the wonders of this big world and we should all be involved in it but then complain when we go into the big world to buy stuff cheaper, this is why we dont have the industry.

The reason for this is in this country we make and do expensive things very well, sadly we make cheap things very badly. I know I will probably get shouted down for this comment but sadly its true!!

  9. Big kick in the teeth for Liam Fox in defence, apparently Paddy Ashdown will take on the role of Defence Secretary.

Well you might as well have someone who knows all about being in the forces in the job

Maybe this is Dave's plan to cut the defence budget by making Paddy 'Rambo' Ashdown a one man army. Send him into Afganistan, those Taliban will run for the hills!!

  11. Obama has just spoken to Cameron, I'll bet he gets on better with him than Brown did.

    Isn't Cameron anti American

That's what was thrown at him in the debates.

Cameron probably told Obama, hands of BP, your not getting any money and tough titty that they caused an environmental disaster, serves you right for wanting independence.

*cough* caused by an american working on a swiss(?) owned oil platform, rented by BP *cough* I have just studied Proximate Cause, I think BP might get their money back...

  12. I hate this left wing shit where if you say you love your country you suddenly become some sort of facist.

I think people are just pissed we might have to pay back all the money we have pissed up the wall over the last few years

all governments piss things up the wall, its about the only thing they all do well

    Haha very true

  13. Hi General,

Thanks again to yourself and the rest of the board for your excellent work.

I have one small question/criticism from yesterday. I rang the club up to try and sort out some sort of present for my father's 60th birthday as he has been an avid fan since our last FA Cup Final win and I wanted to try and give him a nice day out at the club for a match day. I first called the ticket office to see if there were any packages available and was told to speak to the Business section. I then spoke to Carol who was very helpful but said I should speak to one of the ticket office representatives. I then went back to them and was told that I need to speak to someone from events who would call me back which hasnt happened. Is there anybody I can call directly to get something sorted.

    [edited]Hi General,

Scrap my last message, I had a very helpful man call me back and is sending me some details across so I can get something booked in due course.

Further more I have now been called again and given some more options which sound exactly what I was looking for. The club has been very helpful and a personal thank you to Dominic and Carol for getting back to me and being very helpful. I think my Dad will love it, especially as I will be driving and he can have a few beers...

    Many Thanks

    Andy

  14. General are you familar with Dashboard Widgets?

If not check out this link:

    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/

I am sure a man of the world like yourself is using an Apple Mac not some God awful PC! - My point here General is that both Mac (Yeah!) and PC (Boo!) have their own widgets engines whereby users can get quick access to radio/news etc direct to their computer desktops. A lot of sports teams including many British football clubs have developed their own Widgets to keep their fans informed of news in an easy and bitesize way. Do you know if Aston Villa have thought about doing so? And if possible could you ask the person concerned if they could create one?

    Cheers.

    James

I was actually in the process of developing one for myself (for Vista) so if there is something in the offing I wouldnt bother. On the other hand if I can help my club out by providing then that would be very enjoyable...
